WHO'S YOUR FAVORITE STORMLIGHT ARCHIVE CHARACTER?!!
Okay I’m sooooo sorry for not answering this or your other ask sooner 😣 I was on vacation and kept having to wake up no later than 6 in the morning and I am definintly NOT a morning person, that combined with constantly walking to see tourist stuff, and being around people all the time kept making me crash at the end of the day, and then every place I was staying had horrible wifi and certain stuff wouldn’t load otherwise I would have answered all ready
but anyway! My favourite character is easily Kaladin! I find his views of other character really interesting, and I like how his idea of different people gets more nuanced as the story continues rather than just changing from two extremes. He is also verrrryy angsty, which is something I like a lot in a character, I think it makes them more compelling.
Last time you asked my opinion about the stormlight characters, I said I really didn’t like shallan, but I think she’s starting to grow on me! A lot of the things she does still frustrate me a bit, but it’s not nearly as bad as before. I figured I would mention this because I remember you said you like her character.
I’m ashamed to admit I’m still not done the third book BUT IM GOING TO FINISH IT I WAS JUST BUSY FOR A LONG TIME I’m usually a fast reader so the fact I’m not done it is kind of bothering me so I need to get on that fast or I’m gonna get mad at myself about it lmao
Idk if it's intentional or not but Shallan in Oathbringer is actually kind of brilliant rep for plurality/DID (so far at least). Like. I'm in the third main book of an epic fantasy series and a character with a history of dissociation slowly starts viewing her alternate identity as a separate person from her and you start getting chapters from Veil's pov. The formation of Radiance in a moment of panic. The way the three of them slip in and out of the narration depending on what the situation demands. Shallan avoiding certain thoughts to avoid becoming Veil at a bad moment. Shallan being annoyed by how much Veil drinks, Veil being annoyed by Shallan's responsibilities. Radiance struggling with things Shallan would find easy and vice versa. The way Shallan will suddenly feel like her own personality is just another persona to become when suddenly changing back after being Veil or Radiance, feeling unfamiliar in her own head, like she's not quite herself and being confused about it. It's all SO true to the plural experience that it could be genuinely researched. Brandon Sanderson's handling of mental and physical differences and disabilities in this series so far has been very good but DID and OSDD and other plural conditions are so rarely talked about that any good rep is usually accidental coding, and that could definitely be the case here. Either way I love Shallan and Veil and Radiance.
