Ok here's one that makes me cry: Maya will never tell by BlindRadiant (Locked to registered users). Rated Teen, 1000 words. Adolin has a minor breakdown almost all by himself. Oh! You know what would make you specifically cry? Five Rhythms by Anonymous should do it. Rated Mature for complex themes, 8000 words, Rlainarin. Oh OH HOW COULD I FORGET THE OG FIC THAT MADE ME CRY SO HARD Making it Work by FleetOfAdmiralLynx (Rated Explicit, 56K words, Renarin/Shallan, Kaladin/Shallan, Renarin/Rlain, and more) starts with Adolin's death, so enjoy lmao

29. What do you think would bring the Cosmere fanfic community closer together?

Great question (I say as if I didn't write it, lol)! I think tumblr user isdalinarhot said it really well already when it comes to people who are already on ao3. What brought me, specifically, closer to the fandom writing community was openness to making new friends. I've been in the fandom since 2020 and I've seen people come and go as their interest has waxed and waned (Wayned, hehe) and it can feel sad when a friend loses interest in writing or in the fandom. On the other hand, new people join the fandom all the time! So what brings us closer together is to keep sharing the things we love about the books, so that the people who love specific things can keep finding each other, and we can keep making new friends, which strengthen the bonds of an active fandom.

23. What's your favourite fic with an aroace character?

Forward Through Fear by BlindRadiant (Rated Teen, 18K words, Rushu&Szeth). The fic is about how a soulmate bond might work for two aroaces and it's fantastic!

Cosmere ask game #5, for the trope (?)... planterlanche 😇🌱

5. What's something you enjoy about fic with this ship/trope?

Okay okay this is very fun! For those wondering, planterlanche is a tag used on fics that engage in Rosharan flora worldbuilding for sex purposes. I generally enjoy fics that take a look at the worldbuilding for sex purposes--how would the in-world characters use, say fabrials, or spren, as part of their sex lives? How do Alethi vs, say, Azish sexual mores differ when it comes to these things? There's lots of fun digging and exploring to be done.

The day someone thought of using (very active) Rosharan plant life was a fantastic day indeed. And the fics that came out of those conversations were varied and interesting and obviously sexy and extremely fun! I hope more people will use that tag in the future because it's a trope that's uniquely Stormlight and also very fun to write!

10. What fic would you recommend to someone who's never read Cosmere fanfic before?

Usually when I come across someone willing to try fic for the first time, I try really hard to zoom in on what that person specifically will enjoy, which sometimes has been "give me something identical to Sanderson" and sometimes has been "I NEED to see Shallan and Adolin's wedding night". Usually giving a "missing scene" kind of fic is a good choice. One I might offer is Glyphwards by Ashertmarn, which is a 5+1 fic: 5 times Hesina made glyphwards for her family, and one time they made one for her. Rated Mature for complex themes (check the tags), 7000 words.

16. Which fic do you go back to and read again and again?

One fic I've read 22 times (according to my ao3 history) is an unfinished fic called rooting in your heart by Stormcursed (rated Mature for complex themes, 6000 words, kadolin). It's the first flower shop AU I ever read and I thought the premise was really sweet and I enjoy rereading it! It's an important fic to me because that fic is how I ended up finding Stormcursed for FTH last year and they wrote the extremely excellent (Explicit, 15K words, kadolin) BDSM AU so hard to die, so hard to please which I absolutely love!! And have read it 14 times so far, haha

I think we could hype ourselves and each other up more! I used to run Fanfic Fridays here on Tumblr, where I would pick a fic and share a snippet and such but I stopped doing it because only my closest friends tended to interact with my posts and I kind of lost heart in it. I also occasionally post about fic on reddit but oh my god my karma takes a hit every time I do. I don't even know how to promote fic on Instagram. But I do try to share links when I come across them, and I hope people will post about their fics when they make them, so more people are likely to find it even after it falls off the first page when you search by posted date.

ANYWAY the other day I saw some art of fanfic and it made my heart so happy. It was great! Maybe I would say to people to not be afraid to share about fanfic here on tumblr, both the fic you write and the fic you read, because this is the place where you can block the freaks who are weird about fanfic!

you KNOW i have to shoutout Lost Intent by BlindRadiant, the fic from the pov of jezrien's honorblade. there are about 3k stormlight fics and one is from the perspective of a sword that is like just barely sentient god bless

25. what's your favorite fic from before 2018?

when im feeling #sandersoncritical about how dalinar kinda stops giving a shit about navani in any capacity other than like being vaguely polite to her post oathbringer, i get some sick sad comfort out of this being metaphorically foreshadowed in 2015 with cosmere angst fic To Love Again by squirenonny. like. so true. we DIDNT know how the nightwatcher curse worked in 2015.

30. is there something you think will make the cosmere fanfic community last for years to come?

okay so here's what we all need to do, As A Community, bulleted list

-comment more on strangers' fics, (or the fics of people you know and run adjacent to, but are not friends with). cosmere fandom is EXCELLENT at commenting on the fics of their friends, but even the big name authors that have thousands of hits on their longfics have comment sections that are pretty much just their friends as frequent fliers. comments are the biggest driving force in keeping people posting so if you like a fic saying something is the best bet! (i will note that stormlight has, like, the best comment culture of any fandom ive ever been in)

-read outside your bubble, read widely, give things a fair shake if they look even remotely appealing to you. both the big name ships and kaladin character studies and the rarepairs or gen fics about some fuckass interlude character. you need to know what's going on with everyone

-make friends with other stormlight fanfic authors. right now i think the fanfic scene is pretty much set up in 3-4 discord servers but in my ideal paradise its 6-7 (six sevennn) and theres heavy crossover between all of them. literally nothing will inspire you to write more than having people to bounce fic ideas off of

-if you think you can't write yes you can. if you think your fic is too bad to publish no it's not. if you think nobody wants to read it i promise someone will

-one thing ive been doing lately is when im angsting about stats on one of my fics or whatever, i sort by whatever stat is making me feel bad, go to the final page, and read as many of the fics that have Less (whatever stat i'm spiraling about) as i can. it both keeps things in perspective (you need to spend as much time looking at people who are getting less traction than you as you do looking at people getting more traction than you to avoid going insane/getting a victim complex that makes you impossible to talk to) and makes fics you would have skipped otherwise get on your radar. you dont have to Like all these fics, there is nothing wrong with going ok its still dog ass and i dont like it (as long as you dont tell the author that of course lmao), but it's really been helping me with Stat Angst lately

-TOUCH SOURCE MATERIAL AT LEAST ONCE EVERY COUPLE YEARS, IDEALLY MORE OFTEN. not saying this as a "he would not fucking say that" thing, but in a way that's like. okay you wanna stay in this fandom/writing for it for the long haul? you wanna keep it alive over the wat-stormlight 6 gap? you need to reremember why you like these books in the first place. you need to remember WHY your blorbos are your blorbos, and the way they do things in canon. this can be as extensive as a full reread featuring edgedancer and dawnshard or as focused as looking up all the chapters from the pov of your favorite character(s) to write on the coppermind and exclusively reading those chapters.

idk thats what i am trying to do at least. we'll see if this works for everyone

The Sexy Sapphicspren Search of 1175 by SapphicSpren (eve_is_obsessed). Rated Mature, 9000 words of hilarity, and perfect for Pride month 🏳️‍🌈

15. What fic would you recommend to someone who wants the smuttiest smut that ever smutted?

Ok this was a tough one but in terms of density of smut I think Not Again! by khrossbow really fits the bill. Explicit, 5000 words so far. Shallan goes through various events from the Way of Kings and fucks her way out of every situation. Especially good for those who enjoy gangbangs and dubcon 😏

17. What's your favourite Mistborn fic?

If we're being honest, and I do believe we should all at least be honest with ourselves, I only have one Mistborn fic in my bookmarks and it's a Kelsier piss fic and it's REALLY GOOD. Unnoticed by chaos_monkey. Rated Teen, 1000 words.

21. What's your favourite femslash fic?

AUGH this is tough!! I have many favourites but I guess I will shout out Voice by aluminumoxynitride, rated General, 1500 words, Leshwi/Venli, for its sheer power and understanding of the nuances of redemption.

A character trait/dynamic that I'm endlessly compelled by is someone dealing with (or, like, failing to) being the child of people who were too busy being good people to have the time and attention to be good parents. This can be anywhere from 'was a public defender who gave a shit working 60 hour weeks with basically no vacations' to 'left their family behind to join the revolution/war effort and is now a universally beloved martyr-hero who saved/remade the world with their final breath' on the groundedness spectrum. The important thing is a viscerally felt but confused and ugly mess of longing, resentment, and guilt about feeling the resentment.

Apologies for taking this on a tangent, but Sondeluz is a fascinating translation of Lightsong.

Son de luz (spanish, if that isn't clear) means "tone/sound of light" or "light's tone" or "tone from light". In a religion centered about the "Iridescent Tones" a god figure named "tone of light" sounds pretty important.

I don't know why Lightsong feels less impactful than Sondeluz. Possibly because I'm not fluent in Spanish. (English is not my native tongue, so it's not that)

A couple chapters later, Chapter 87:

[Shmone] stood close to [Dalinar-as-Garith], so he...put his arm around her... He felt a moment of discomfort and betrayal himself, for Navani's sake. He knew she would understand, but few people would enjoy seeing their spouse in the arms of another.

Me, taking off my Shakadolin goggles and getting out my Shakadolin microscope: Maybe if there's only a few people who would enjoy that, that means they'd be a special type... Maybe Shallan would enjoy seeing Adolin in the arms of another. I don't know. Kaladin, maybe???
