Like Gale realizing that Katniss tends to reach for physical closeness when she’s scared, overwhelmed, grieving, or trying to comfort him was actually such a refreshing moment for him. But if he did not stop Katniss, do you think things would have been physical between them? Will Katniss actually go through with it?

You’re giving him more credit than I will anon. I do not think Gale realizes she’s scared/overwhelmed/grieving. I can’t think of any time she feels that way and he noticed or reacts with anything resembling comfort for her. He knows that she only kisses him when he’s in pain and there is that one time in 2 when he realizes she’s disoriented but I don’t think even then he’s comprehending what she’s feeling. He just notices that she isn’t focused on HIM. He asks her to look at him and then kiss him again, to focus her attention on himself and when that doesn’t work he gives up. She’s disassociating, suicidal, and miserable and all he says is she seems drunk.

I do not think Katniss would’ve slept with Gale. She’s never done that before or even come close. It’s a very vulnerable thing and I don’t think she felt safe or comfortable enough in that situation or with that boy. She was giving him those “drunk” kisses because she felt like she owed him (“to make up for all the kisses I withheld”) and to try and feel something. She’s planning her own death in her head while they make out. If clothes started coming off I think the disoriented numbness would’ve turned to panic real quick.
