Playing the Witcher 2 for the first time. Because of who I am I’m super impressed by the outfit design wow
I’ve heard the Witcher described as fantasy Poland before and the outfits match that pretty well. I think it’s fun. They’ve even got mostly accurate medieval style hoods which is pretty exciting. Most fantasy series get that wrong.
See most fantasy series use this sort of design for hoods which looks good but wasn’t really used in the real world because any amount of wind will push it off of you
Real medieval hoods look more like this:
It’s tight around your face, it’s warm, its snug, it’s got a liripipe tail. And so far from what I’ve seen the hoods in the Witcher 2 are based around this sort of thing. These are the kinds of details I like.
just out of curiosity, what's with the tails on the hoods? I totally get the snugness but the tail just looks funny and yet I assume there has to be a reason especially since they have a name?
Partially because that’s just where the excess fabric goes and partially as a fashion statement. The length of a liripipe depends on personal preference and the size of the piece of cloth used to make the hood, mostly. In some time periods people wrapped them around their heads in different configurations as a stylistic choice. Roche from the Witcher series actually does a version of that sort of style

huh ok. I guess I would have thought they'd cut off excess fabric and use it for something else but I guess I'm not surprised that humans in the past also liked playful ways to customize their clothes
(I am so amused that Roche looked at his tail and decided what the best thing to do with it is flop it across his head. it doesn't look bad but the thought process feels intrinsically silly or childlike for some reason lol)
the tails could also be worn wrapped around the forehead on a particularly windy/cold excursion to further secure the hood in place, like done here
i could not find medieval paintings where this style of wear is depicted but i know they exist
rest of the outfit is not necessarily the most historically accurate as they are a costume store..

This campaign supports many people include a teenager with alopecia, a sick young boy and a woman who was recently injured in the bombing.
All of these things mean that they need funds for medication, on top of the already extortionate prices of basic necessities in Gaza.
