in my many many years on tumblr i used to be concern trolled frequently because i used to be very meek and unthinking when it came to that kinda stuff and i would just accept anything people told me if they used the right tone of voice because i thought i didn’t have a choice otherwise. ANYWAY! now that im an old cranky mean bitch i look back on that era and laugh both because i was being dumb and because some of the bullshit being sold to me as 100% A Real Concern was absolutely mind boggling. but my favorite one to think about was that someone told me that the reason we were seeing “so many” asexual characters in media recently was because an Asexual Lobby was sending moles into writers rooms and when the idea of a queer character was brought up, the Asexual Lobby Mole would buy the rights to making that character 100% asexual. and even as a dumbass 20 something i was like you know i don’t think they’re doing that

i couldn’t even tell you how long ago it was, long enough i think that it was in tandem with the glut of overwatch characters against aphobia blogs. but i still think about the Asexual Lobby. and the Mole. wondering how to get a job as the asexual lobbyist mole who pays people to make characters asexual

In language that's sufficiently non-adjacent to eugenics, having generative ai retrieve (usually surface-level, incomplete or just plain wrong and always plagiarized) information and format it for you has been shown in studies to inhibit retention and comprehension, since you aren't doing the work yourself. This is bad because 1) people aren't acquiring the skills and knowledge they need, 2) incomplete knowledge translates to shoddy work and long-term information/skill decay, 3) depleting your own skills puts you at a disadvantage with your employer when it comes to fair pay and work conditions, 4) concentrating your ability to know or do anything in the hands of for-profit data-scraping companies that exist to steal wages and shield the corporate world from accountability is stupid. Sorry, foolish.

you’re not the first person to say something like this on this post, but it wildly misses the point - people being reactionary are not making an otherwise reasonable argument but just using incorrect language to do so, they’re just being reactionary. calling people who use a chatbot mental degenerates isn’t some misguided attempt to raise awareness about neurological health lmao. the people who say things like this are using fascist language to make a fascist argument about the defective intelligence of people they view as mentally inferior to them for using a technology they don’t like. treating those sentiments as otherwise reasonable is just arguing for a “rational” form of eugenics logic. stop saying shit like this on this post
