Medical and Supply Fundraiser for Disabled Spoonie
GO FUND ME https://www.gofundme.com/f/1v3fefj91c PAYPAL paypal.me/valconklin So this past spring I received my Ehlers Danlos Syndrome diagnosis, and since then my health has gotten worse.
Showing signs of dysfunction of the autonomous and peripheral nervous systems. I've had at least one seizure. Neverending numbness, tingling, vertigo, and fatigue, on top of muscle and joint pain from EDS. My right leg barely supports me. Worsening memory issues. Spasms and shaking. So it's looking to be along the likes of Multiple Sclerosis. (MRI coming soooon.)
I'm also a neurodivergent single parent, and caring for my neurodiverse kiddos (5 and 7 yo). Â It's been really difficult to hold down steady work the past handful of years, because the minute I think I'm stable, my mind and body absolutely crash and i can barely function. Aaaand I just recently got let go due to complications after a seizure. BUT! I can paint. And I know some woodworking. I have texperience with refurbishing and refinishing furniture. And I inherited a house full of really dope, solid wood furniture that I can flip for several thousand. I just need the tools. And to be very blunt, I need some medical and general financial support while I'm trying to figure my shit out, regarding either finding suitable and accommodating work or going on disability.Â
But I need alooooot of help. In order of importance:
1. Support items like braces, mobility aids, natural aids for pain and neuropathy. 2. Tools and paint supplies to flip furniture. Self explanatory lol. This'll [theoretically] set me up to do about 10 pieces. 3. I'm getting visual snow and peripheral double vision (optical neuropathy), so I need another trip to the ophthalmologist for new glasses. Maybe bifocals, idk? 4. An order from ZebraSplints. The are metal joint braces to help with hypermobility in my hands. My insurance wont cover them. These are custom, handmade made by another person with EDS. Cheaper than out-of-pocket medical braces. 5. Miscellaneous things like medical bills, gas, windshield wipers (one is broken), copays, living expenses, childcare costs, household items, toiletries, cleaning supplies, unforseen /emergency situations, etc., until I get shit sold or figured out.
Please help, y'all. Though I know times are tight for alot of people. Even a share is great.
Preemptive thank you. <3
Val Conklin Medical And Supply Support For Val So this past spring I received my Ehlers Danlos Syndrome diagnosis, and since then my health
Hey friends, I could really use some help!
Please. My physical health is failing. I'm a neurodivergent single parent with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and suspected Multiple Sclerosis. I was recently fired from my job due to missing work from complications from seizures.
I've refurbished furniture professionally, but have no supplies. I need a host of mobility aids, braces, natural pain aids, supplies to set up a paint shop (as I've inherited about a dozen solid wood pieces of furniture that I can sell), and miscellaneous living expenses. (A breakdown is in the gfm.)
Anything helps! Even a reblog.
Do u ever think about how dogs, who have 2 colour receptors, see an apple as grayish yellow, while humans have 3 and see it as red, and mantis shrimp have 12, and see it another monstrous colour altogether?
How none of us are necessarily correct, and the apple itself, is not really any colour, itâs just a fruit minding its own goddamn business??
Fucking fascinating
We donât know how ANYTHING TASTES, SOUNDS, LOOKS, FEELS, OR SMELLS
If you think about it just a bit too much like I did, youâll reach the conclusion that nothing really tastes, sounds, looks, feels or smells. Itâs just your brainâs interpretation of chemical composition, vibrations, the way things reflect light, more vibrations and chemical composition again
Reality canât be proven to exist outside of our ability to perceive it through our senses but our senses canât be trusted so basically nothing is real do what you want
Today on Tumblr Accidentally Recapitulates Wittgensteinâs Theory of Experiential Epistomology
Tfw you shitpost so hard you accidentally write a beautiful summary of the defining breakthrough of 20th century philosophy.
when you shitpost so hard you become a presocratic
In a society where kindness is rationed and only carefully given out to those around us, why be anything but kind?
There is evil in the world, but it doesnât mean you have to fall into the capitalistic trap that teaches us from a young age that if youâre not able-bodied, mentally healthy and contributing to the work force, you are a useless drain on society and its resources and undeserving of the kindness thatâs shown to those who are able to work and whatnot.
Just because our society depends on tearing each other down, competing for even the smallest of things and putting ourselves in debt just to get a degree that might get us a job and way to repay our debts doesnât mean that you have to let it turn you bitter and callous towards humans as a whole. Focus your anger and lack of compassion on the pigs making money off of the desperation of impoverished workers, not at yourself.
Self care is overthrowing and/or reforming the system forcing impoverished people to remain impoverished, and disabled people to stay eternally broke, constantly ill, and struggling to survive. Extra self care is redistributing that wealth back to the people, especially those who are having to crowdfund their own medical expenses just to not literally die, and the homeless individuals trying to get back on their feet again.
Extra extra self care is acknowledging that you want to only be kind but that sometimes kindness canât win everything. It is acknowledging when, and how, to distribute that kindness to the people who wonât take it for granted.
Extra extra extra self care is acknowledging that being this way is a never ending cycle of learning, growth and admitting you make mistakes and donât know everything.
Extra extra extra extra self care is not just acknowledging that kindness and positivity doesnât fix or work for everything, but putting that knowledge into how you interact in your daily life. Someone thinks youâre less than human? They donât deserve your kindness. Someone thinks you donât deserve the rights they do? They donât deserve your time. Someone thinks they can demand emotional labor from you because they donât want to do the work themselves? Yep, you guessed it, they donât deserve your energy. Throw them away and walk away.

Having really sensitive hearing but also auditory processing disorder is like:
"Just because I can hear you, doesn't mean I can understand you"
[Image: Tweet by Emily Mullin (@EmilyLMullin) and tweet by Isobelle Winter (@IsobelleWinter), both about the dangers of Facebookâs new preventative health screening tool. Images have been modified for visual ease but information has not been changed.]
Something to know about Facebookâs new âscreening tool,â and advice/info that can most certainly be used outside of this specific situation.
For spoonies, the biggest deal is how this data, if leaked, could affect you in professional and insurance spheres.
Hereâs Emilyâs full thread, which discusses the details of the tool, and hereâs Isobelleâs full thread, which extrapolates on specific dangers.
In the end? Itâs another data grab. Data is worth money; donât give yours away, especially not to Facebook.
so let's say hypothetically that I was scared shitless of the future (fascism, global warming, etc). of all the resources you've shared what do you think are the MOST vital/effective/fast
I feel you, man. Hereâs a few ideas
Radical unions. Over 60% of millennials are in favor of unions, but fewer than 5% are members. If 60% of a workplace is organized, that union has a fuckton of control over their conditions - and with some good messaging could no doubt expand into that 40% thatâs opposed or unsure. Join the IWW, especially if thereâs a local branch (if not, maybe you can help organize one), and theyâll give you all the resources you need. Maybe even consider salting, which is where you join jobs specifically with the intent to organize them (if youâve seen Sorry To Bother You, Squeeze is a salt). There are a ton of people who are waiting for an opportunity to unionize - take advantage of that
Solidarity economy. On the business/municipal level, the cooperative movement. On the community level, the Transition Initiative. And on the interpersonal level, the Buy Nothing Project. These build an alternative to capitalism from the grassroots and have had great success. I think thatâs partially because theyâre inoffensive and not overtly political - you can convince pretty much anyone to start sharing and trading things, or to support worker-owned businesses. I think this is our best bet for moving away from capitalism and towards sustainable socialism fast
Meshnets. I know this seems kind of arbitrary and small compared to the others, but communication and organization is vital to any movement, and weâre already seeing surveillance and censorship over the internet which has every potential to get worse. Meshnets are near-impossible to censor or monitor without physically damaging the equipment, and since that equipment is very easy and cheap to DIY and not particularly easy to spot, itâd be fairly safe from fascism. I can also tell you that most people are super psyched about mesh networking when someone actually tells them what it is, so we just need to spread the word and expand the networks and infrastructure
I stand by my belief that everyone should focus on what theyâre good at and passionate about, since that will avoid burnout and make you the most useful, but if youâre really filled with a need to change things right now, those are some good starting points

Resources for Mending Clothes
We toss out over 80 pounds of textiles each year. These textiles are often made of plastic materials (polyester, nylon), made in unethical conditions, dyed with harsh dyes that often get put into the rivers, etc. Even a single cotton shirt releases carbon emissions and uses tons of water.Â
So the best thing to prevent the unsustainable growth of the fashion industry is to make sure that your clothing lasts as long as possible. To do so, mending clothing is a must. So here are some resources to help you learn how to do various things, such as sewing a button, to tailoring clothes, or even upcycling old clothing into new styles.Â
* How to sew on three different types of button
* How to hand sew on a patch on a torn pair of jeans
* How to sew up a hole in an old shirt
* How to sew a simple T-shirt
* How to upcycle old clothing into new clothing
* More upcycle and sewing techniques
* How to repair a damaged sock
* How to do an invisible stitch
* 3 different stitches to work with for different results
* How to make a T-shirt smaller so it fits you better
* How to make repairs to your shoes
These are just a few of the things that you can do in order to make sure that your clothing lasts for a long time. Nobody wants to keep buying new clothing, as it is expensive and wasteful.Â
So making alterations to your clothing, or fixing small holes hen you see them can be hugely beneficial to your wallet, to garment workers, and to the environment in the long term.Â
Oh shit. No. Shit. Thank you
Just gonna reblog this out of gratitude because I actually did forgetâŚ
Fffffffff let me get right on that.Â
and then reblog for the next forgetful son of a bitch
Iâm so great full for everyone that is reblogging this. I totally forgot to take mine
I think that there is some sort of unspoken fairy godparent thing where you see this, realize that you forgot your meds, and rebagel it because if you forgot someone else must have. And in our turn we all take care of each other, even if we donât know it.
parents (and this can also apply to doctors, teachers etc.) need to start taking children seriously when they say theyâre in pain.
If your five year old struggles to walk and often cries in pain then something may be medically wrong. donât just put it down to growing pains or a tantrum.
if your seven year old ever has trouble keeping up in school, something may be wrong. donât just assume that they arenât trying hard enough.Â
If your nine year old is often spraining or dislocating their joints and is covered in unexplained bruises, something may be wrong. donât assume theyâve just been âplaying roughâ.Â
if your eleven year old says they canât play sports in school because theyâre struggling/hurting, something may be wrong. donât assume theyâre making an excuse to get out of it.Â
if your thirteen year old says they canât do a âsimpleâ task, there may be something wrong. don't assume that they are making excuses.Â
if your fifteen year old canât get out of bed in the morning or goes straight to bed after school and theyâre tell you that theyâre exhausted every day, something may be wrong, donât assume theyâre just a lazy teenager.
stop assuming that all of these experiences are normal and that they happen to all children. if this sounds like your child they could have a chronic illness. so please, if you think something may be wrong with your child you are probably right and you need to get them medical help. The doctors may not listen and use one of the excuses above, but please keep fighting for them because youâre the only one that can.Â
Many chronically ill children (like myself) go undiagnosed and unbelieved until adulthood and by that point many of us have got progressively worse and the illness has taken over our lives. However, A parent believing, supporting and fighting for their chronically ill child makes all the difference.  Whether youâre a parent, another family member, a teacher or even a doctor, Learn how to recognise the signs of a chronically ill child. Help chronically ill children get a diagnosis early on.Â

I recently saw a pain scale with the caption âif you can still talk, your not at a nineâ and it really really bothered me. One of my doctors (who works extensively with teenagers with CRPS) said that one common theme he sees in his patients is a complete lack of reaction to pain. He told me that when he performs procedures and tests that are objectively extremely painful, often the teenagers will be smiling and cracking jokes, even though he knows that they are in excruciating pain. At nine I can carry on a conversation (not very well, because at this point things start to get really cloudy for me, but still a conversation). During my nerve conduction study (If youâve ever had one you know how awful it is, and if you havenât, it involves a six inch long eighteen gage needle stabbed deep into your muscles over and over while you clench and relax them as instructed.) i chatted with the nurse and played games on my phone. It wasnât that I wasnât in pain, it was just I was also outside of it. For teenagers with chronic pain a disassociation from themselves and their bodies is common, even expected. If I âgrounded myselfâ, saw myself as In my body and of my body and nothing else I donât know how I would survive. In order to live, to get out of bed or wash my hair or put on pants I have to separate ME from my body. Itâs how I can pop my shoulder out of socket and put it back in during a conversation. Itâs a matter of survival. And Iâm tired of people saying that my pain isnât real or valid because of it.
The Trifectaâs Four Seasons
Spring: MCAS is absolute hell. Itching, bad breathing, nothing works. Is this hayfever or am I dying? What airborne thing am I allergic to now?
Summer: Stand up. Faint. Sit down. Faint. Overheat. Brain fog. Nausea. Will we vomit or is it just hot? Faint again. Dropped something? Welp itâs gone forever. Oh, itâs raining now because of the heat! Cool, joint pain time. I donât know what that is but I know Iâm allergic to it.
Autumn: As it gets colder, muscles start playing up. Leaves falling off trees and onto skin. Allergic to that too!
Winter: Canât move joints, lungs arenât having a good time, everything hurts, Iâm not trying to punch anything I just canât uncurl my hands from fists
