Hey yall, Im Ash, trans man and general nuisance. I do art sometimes when im not too stressed to function (most of the time). I live with my girlfriend (also trans), our dog and 3 cats.

Gf has been struggling with unemployment for about a year now in no small part due to her transness and weve been relying on crowdfunding and family (support from both have been dwindling because this isnt a sustainable way to live) and I havent been able to follow through with any of my plans for my art business because im constantly busy managing crises and the house crowdfunding/PR bullshit and as of recently, trying to get back on my medicines and benefits after falling out of touch with my psych clinic.

In better times, i used to keep my patreon updated for free once a week every thursday. I also use bsky sometimes, as well as pillowfort and ko fi. Its been a struggle to keep up with these because we dont have real internet and gfs hot spot is hard throttled and takes several minutes to load any webpage. (its taken me like an hour to get all these links compiled. Ko fi straight up wouldnt load but im ash anyperson over there too)

And then last night I closed my game because it hit the point where I was aimlessly wandering around Rivington, just thinking, "Jesus Christ, is this all I'm good for anymore? I can't even monetize this via streaming because I don't have a good setup, nor do I actually want to be a streamer. God, I need money. I should probably try to promote the Etsy shop again. But then people will unfollow me because ads are annoying. And reblogging my "support this queer business!" posts while that "queer-owned-business means nothing anymore because the owner of Palantir is gay" post is still everywhere just kinda feels crass. I don't want to be a shill for capitalism. Nobody wants my stupid art just because I'm gay. I've sold exactly two stickers. Maybe I should just trash the rest. God, I really need money." And at that point it seemed like throwing myself into gaming hyperfixation wasn't actually helping and was just something to do with my hands while I spiraled into shit thoughts.

But now I'm still burnt out and struggling, and also bored.

Three federal book ban bills are currently alive in the United States Congress:

HR 7661

Status: Passed out of committee; to be introduced in the House Would amend the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) to prohibit federal funds from being used for any material deemed “sexually oriented.” Buried within that definition is language that includes material that “involves gender dysphoria or transgenderism.” While framed as protecting children, the bill opens the door to banning books that include LGBTQ+ characters, defining trans existence as inherently inappropriate, and narrowing literature toward a prescribed, limited canon. In short: Would treat any LGBTQ+ identity as sexual content.

HR 2616

Status: Passed the House; referred to a Senate committee Would withhold ESEA funding from schools that “teach or advance concepts related to gender ideology,” using definitions from Executive Order 14168. It frames itself as protecting children. In practice, it represents another attempt to eliminate not only trans and nonbinary books, but also any acknowledgment of gender non‑conforming people in public education. In short: Would deny the existence of trans and nonbinary people.

HR 8705

Status: Passed out of committee; to be introduced in the House Rather than naming specific books or categories of literature, it blocks federal funding for American History and Civics Education from being used to promote what it calls “discriminatory equity ideology” or “gender ideology,” definitions drawn from a January 29, 2025 executive order. Likely impacts would include fewer books on racism and civil rights, less discussion of sexism and inequality, narrower civics curricula, and publishers pulling back on diverse perspectives. In short: A funding lever that shapes whose version of history gets taught.

The clinic is officially shutting down on June 26th. People in Florida on testosterone don't have the option to do telehealth appointments because it's a controlled substance, and you have to be seen by an in person provider.

I've been scheduled for an appointment on the 1st to have my testosterone refilled one more time, and then it's going to be god knows how long before I can get an appointment at another location.

After this location shuts down, I'll have to drive two hours away to another city for my appointments every 3-6 months.

My current cost estimate is $210. If I don't make this appointment, I'm pretty much screwed, but I'm also broke and disabled with a household of other medications and expenses to cover for the month. I don't know how I'm going to to make this appointment *and* feed us.
