Disability Pride is not about being proud of our disabilities, disability pride is being proud of the amazing disabled community and all we have accomplished and continue to accomplish in the face of adversity.

being disabled/chronically ill sucks, not trying to sugar-coat it in any way BUT being disabled in 2026 probably sucks significantly less than in times gone by. my tiny computer i can hold in my hand has all my friends in it. i can read and watch videos and movies on it. i can order medications and meals and taxis from the comfort of my bed, i can give out to consultants via email for not getting back to me quicker, i can share resources with other sick people around the world and do activism and i barely have to lift a finger. yes things are shitty all round and there are many downsides to modern technology but i'm sooooo glad i'm not bedrotting staring into the middle distance for hours at a time instead of laughing at funny chronic illness memes on my phone

It is a very scary time to disabled or part of the lgbtqia community in America. I am both.
📖 Spoonie Word of the Day
Flarecation (noun)
A vacation you never wanted but your body booked anyway.
No plane tickets.
No beach.
No all-inclusive resort.
Just fatigue, pain, brain fog, heating pads, canceled plans, and hoping tomorrow feels a little better.
Sometimes the best way to cope with chronic illness is finding words that make us laugh because we’ve all been there.
💜 Have you ever been on a flarecation? What symptom usually checks you in?
Follow Livin’ In A Flare for a new Spoonie Word of the Day every day.
Some people hear the word fatigue and think it means you need an extra cup of coffee.
People with chronic illness know it’s something completely different.
It’s waking up exhausted after a full night’s sleep.
It’s needing to sit down after taking a shower.
It’s choosing between making dinner or folding laundry because you don’t have the energy for both.
It’s carrying around a body that feels heavier than it did yesterday.
Today’s Flare Report:
🌩️ Today’s Symptom: Fatigue
💜 Pain: Moderate
🌬️ Energy: Low
🧠 Brain Fog: High
🥄 Spoon Forecast: Limited
If today’s forecast looks like yours, let this be your reminder:
💜 Rest isn’t giving up.
💜 Your body isn’t failing you.
💜 You’re surviving something most people can’t see.
I’d love to hear from you.
How does fatigue show up in your life?
