I hate the culture shock that people get when they realize that someone's disability is actually disabling and not the watered-down romanticized/glorified tiktok version of whatever it is you're dealing with.

It’s okay if the only thing you accomplished today was keeping yourself alive. Existing with a body that constantly malfunctions is exhausting. You don’t need to ‘earn’ rest. You already deserve it.
- reminder to myself this upcoming week.
🤒🐻🩷FLARE BEARS🩷🐻🤒
summary: You are having a rough flare up day and your sweet loving boyfriend goes into full caregiver mode.
A/N: I was in an awful flare up and it inspired this
🧡 Katsuki Bakugo
* I could see Bakugo pretending he’s annoyed, until he realizes it’s a flare-up day? Then he’s locked in.
* He becomes hyper-aware to your condition and your needs.
* Snaps at anyone who expects you to just “push through it.”
* “She’s not lazy. Her body’s being a damn traitor today.”
* Brings you water, electrolytes, salt snacks because trust he memorized everything you need.
* If you feel dizzy standing, he’s already there, hand firm on your arm and on your back.
* “Sit. I’ve got you.”
* Because it’s a flare up, he feels powerless against it.
* He hates feeling powerless, so he channels it into practical care
* Adjusts the room temperature gets you a heating pad (he tried to be your heating pad once and well there’s a reason why you have an actual heating pad now)
* Make sure you’ve got enough plenty of water and snacks.
* Gets up to grab whatever you need (complains the whole time)
* Quietly stays nearby, pretending he’s just chilling and it’s no big deal
* But really he just wants to be as close as he can be on days like this.
* He struggles to express concern gently
* but if you apologize for being sick? He gets angry.
* “Don’t say that crap. You didn’t choose this.”
* And the moment you start to wobble, he’s there.
* Catches you before you fully go down
* “Hey—woah. Stay with me.”
* Gets you somewhere safe without hesitation, zero concern for who’s watching (if it’s in public)
* Kneels in front of you once you’re conscious, fists clenched, jaw tight.
* He’s furious at himself for not noticing sooner, even though it’s not his fault.
* Forces himself to breathe slower so you’ll mirror him.
* Puts a cold cloth or ice pack to help cool you down. (I get hot when I faint I don’t know about yall)
* If you apologize afterward? He snaps
* “Stop. Don’t. You scared me, idiot—don’t make it worse.”
* Sits behind you, your back to his chest and his arms wrapped around you.
* Quietly says “Next time you feel it coming… you tell me sooner. I’ve got you.” and kisses the top of your head while he holds your hand.
* If you snap, cry, or yell about how unfair it is, he doesn’t shut you down.
* BUT if you call your body “useless”?
* Glaring at you like you just said All Might is trash.
* “Don’t talk about yourself like that.”
* Pulls you into a tight hug, forehead pressed to yours.
* “Your body’s fighting every damn day. That’s not weak.”
* He doesn’t try to fix your emotions or tell you how to feel.
* He just defends you from yourself criticize.
You’re curled up on the couch, knees tucked in, heart still fluttery from earlier. Bakugo doesn’t ask if you want a hug he just sits down and opens his arm. If you hesitate, he rolls his eyes saying, “C’mere.”
While he pulls you in to him so he can hold you. Which is all he ever wants to do after you faint because he gets scared.
You settle against his chest and throw your legs over his. He has one arm wrapped tight around your shoulders, the other resting over your legs like he’s anchoring you to the couch. His thumb rubs slow steady circles into your arm, grounding you and him.
After a while, you mumbled that you hated days like this. He presses his forehead to your hair.
“Yeah. Me too. But I’ll take every single one if it means you’re here.”
He stays like that for hours, not moving, not talking just holding you together until you fall asleep.
💚 Izuku Midoriya
* Midoriya is already worried the moment you say, “I don’t feel great today.”
* Immediately asks symptom-specific questions
* “Is your heart racing?”
* “How dizzy are you—like a 4 or a 7?”
* “What about joint pain?”
* Has done extensive research on your chronic illness.Knows triggers, warning signs, and what not to do.
* Constantly checking
* “Do you need water?”
* “Salt?”
* “Should I grab your meds? Actually I’m just gonna grab them”
* If you have brain fog, he talks slower, simpler, softer.
* Will happily cancel everything to stay with you, no resentment (izuku is a lowkey homebody)
* Takes notes afterward to better support you next time.
* He gets a little teary seeing you struggle, but tries not to show it.
* “You’re really strong… even when you don’t feel like it.”
* If you feel guilty for “ruining plans,” he gently shuts that down.
* “We can just have a relaxing day at home. Theres at least 3 different hero documentaries we can watch”
* Midoriya panics for sure but like functionally panics
* Notices the warning signs immediately
* “You’re pale—wait, sit down—”
* Helps you to the floor safely, talking the entire time so you don’t feel alone.
* If you lose consciousness, he’s checking vitals like he’s been training for this moment his whole life.
* He’s surprisingly calm even though he’s worried.
* His first priority is you and your safety
* When you wake up, he definitely has tears in his eyes
* Was holding it back till you woke up.
* “You fainted… but you’re okay, you’re okay.”
* Apologizes to you for not noticing sooner (even if he did).
* Writes down what happened so he can help prevent it next time.
* Very gentle praise and support “You handled that really well. I’m proud of you.”
* If you get frustrated with your chronic illness. He listens intently
* Validates you.
* “That makes sense.”
* “You’re allowed to be upset.”
* If you cry, he of course cries too. Gently reframes it
* “Your body isn’t failing you… it’s just working differently.”
* He reminds you of what you can do, but never in a toxic-positivity way.
Midoriya guides you gently to the bed, helping you lie on your side. He slips in behind you, careful not to crowd, one arm around your waist, the other holding your hand against your chest. His breathing is slow on purpose, meant for you to follow.
“You’re safe. I’ve got you.”
When your thoughts start spiraling “what if it gets worse?” “what if I pass out again and he decides to leave me?” He gives soft reassurances between soft kisses to your temple.
“I’m right here and I’m not going to leave you. I promise I’ll notice if anything changes.”
His thumb traces comforting lines over your knuckles. If you twitch or flinch in your sleep, he immediately stills, whispering apologies even though he’s done nothing wrong.
Eventually, your body relaxes enough to melt fully into him. He smiles softly while he holds you tightly.
🩵 Shoto Todoroki
* Todoroki notices before you even say anything.
* Picks up on subtle signs
* You moving slower
* Less color in your face
* Slight tremors
* Doesn’t overwhelm you with questions
* “Is today difficult?”
* Adjusts the environment to make sure you’re as comfortable as possible
* Cools or warms the room
* Helps you lie down
* Keeps things calm and quiet
* Uses his quirk to help you when you have hot flashes or get too cold
* Sits with you in silence if that’s what you need.
* If you feel faint, he’s incredibly gentle with steady support.
* He doesn’t pity you or try to “fix” it. He just accepts it as part of loving you.
* “You don’t need to be anything today. Rest.”
* When you’re frustrated or sad about your body, he listens without interrupting.
* Catches you when you do faint lowering you down like he’s done this a thousand times.
* “Are you okay? I’m here. What do you need?”
* Adjusts your position, temperature, breathing.
* Offers water and support without rushing you.
* Watches your face closely, “Take your time.”
* Stays nearby for the rest of the day without making it a big deal.
* You never feel embarrassed just cared for and loved.
* He gives you quiet understanding.
* Especially when you are angry at your illness
* Lets you say the ugly thoughts out loud.
* Doesn’t interrupt or correct you
* After you finish, he speaks carefully “You are doing what you can with what you were given”
* Places your hand over your heart or wrist, grounding you. “I’m just asking you to give yourself for patience.”
* He hold your hand interlocking your fingers brushing his thumb over your knuckles as you lay your head on his shoulder.
Todoroki sits against the headboard, legs stretched out, and gently pulls you into his lap. You rest against his chest, ear over his heartbeat as way to help relax you. He brings a hand to the back of your head. The other arm wraps around your waist, with his hand coming to your lower back he warms its up just enough to help with the pain. He doesn’t talk and you don’t talk. You just sit there together existing. When you sigh shakily, frustrated and tired, he presses a soft kiss to your hair.
“You can let go.”
You shuffle off his lap and onto the side of him, for warmth. He adjusts the blanket around you,“I’m here as long as you need.”
You can’t help be smile just a bit and how loved you are by him.
Breaking news: disabled girl in the beginnings of a flareup decides to drive 2 hours to a garden and walk around for 4 hours with no mobility aids, no food, and only a few breaks, then wonders why she feels like dogshit the next day!
“do you have weird unique special interests or are you just plane autistic?” (haha I think I’m funny)
…anyways drink your water!! <3
