If misogyny was only just āhatred of the feminineā a supposedly mystic state of being rather than oppressive norms, women could opt out at any time by simply not conforming. This is so clearly and painfully untrue almost as if⦠Sex-based oppression exists
and in fact, refusing to conform to/perform femininity often makes things WORSE for females.
female and feminine? get misogyny
female and masculine? get misogyny
itās almost like the thing that makes oppression so horrific is that you cannot opt out of it. because the system of oppression relies on immutable characteristics to effectively oppress people.
A great example of the trans community not being able to stick to one story. For the longest time they said that sex couldnāt be changed, but gender could. Then they started saying that both gender and sex change at the same time. Now some are pushing for the idea that sex changes but gender doesnāt? And nobody can agree with each other within the trans community on this, but you bet theyāll call you a bigot if youāre confused by it too.
They keep moving the goal posts, keep redefining their terms, and keep changing what being ātransā even is. The point is to leave you confused and exhausted by attempting to keep up with their rapidly changing terms.
is anyone keeping up with this thing where the body of a madoka magica cosplaying trans woman was found in a german river and everyone immediately with no evidence started theorizing it was a horrific transphobic hate crime only for it to be revealed it was a likely suicide and the trans woman in question was wanted for kidnapping an underage girl and was a sex offender for "sex acts with child under 15"....
and after that was uncovered, netizens immediately, again with literally no evidence at all, started accusing the kidnapped girl who was groomed when she was a child, of murder, despite the trans woman who died constantly posting suicide fantasies on social media dating back many years. Imagine trying to frame the victim of grooming as a murderer just to maintain the victim narrative of the literal sex offender
can't make this shit up
most of the discussion and sources coming out about this are not in english so its proving a bit hard for me to follow the full details (here is the government sex offender page), but is this not just a real life example of the exact sort of shit that has been going on here on tumblr too? Reminds me of all of the blogs that were deleted for posting literal pedophilia, incest, and rape fantasies, who are then rallied behind by the entire site and portrayed as victims, just because the people running them were trans women. And how about how that same circle of bloggers have been posting about how the sex offender registry is fascist or whatever?
it is disturbing but not unexpected that this is not just an online phenomenon. it's obvious, but these people exist in real life.
what really gets me is that marriage has historically been a form of sexual slavery and we're just supposed to forget that, go along with the traditions and have men complain about modern marriage being unfair to THEM. in my mother tongue, the word for husband is still the same word as "owner". when she was maybe four or five years old, and my mom called our dad her husband, my baby sister got so angry she threw and shattered the glass she was holding and said "he's not your owner you're not a dog" but now she's almost twelve and has learned to accept it. it's all so transparent a young child can see how fucked up it is, and by the time that child hits puberty she will be trained out of thinking critically about marriage
okay if you guys are going to reblog this i feel the need to add that marriage is very much still a form of sexual slavery for a lot of women to this day and probably closer to you than you think if you live in a first world country

To my international friends: If you ever wonder why Americans are the way they are, just remember that 1/3rd of all US citizens are in a cult that teaches them to suppress the activity of their prefrontal cortex, particularly when it comes to doubt, critical thinking, and differentiating emotional responses from personal values.
1/3rd of Americans are Evangelical, and Evangelical Protestantism is a cult. We just donāt think of it as one because itās so normalized. However, it follows the B.I.T.E. model of cult dynamics.
Evangelism teaches its followers to always maintain states of bliss and ecstasy for Jesus. What this does is condition the brain to always operate out of less-evolved parts; areas that are responsible for more primal emotions like euphoria, anger, and fear. Because of how weāve evolved to survive, the brain will actually shut down our higher functioningāincluding critical thinking skillsāin favor of these primal emotions, when theyāre active.
Always feeling bliss = never questioning or feeling doubt. Evangelicals may actually fear the thoughts that do originate from their higher brain-parts because they think itās the devil tempting them away from their religion. Theyāll engage in self-indoctrination techniques to make this stop.
This creates a cognitive dissonance so great that many Americans have no separation between how they feel and what they believe. This is really bad because their minds have literally no defense against undue influence. Theyāll vote for the dude who hyped them up enough. Theyāll buy into the conspiracy theory that excites them the most. Theyāll side with whatever gets the best reaction out of them, and getting a rise out of people is super easy to do.
Things like financial insecurity and low employment make this worse, too.
And just to be clear, this kind of conditioning can happen to anyone, regardless of their intellectual capacity.
Cult conditioning has nothing to do with how smart or dumb people are. You can condition literally any brain with the right time and environment.
Counteracting undue influence is a skill, and like any skill, it needs to be taught.
Cult experts frequently point out that the smarter people are, the more susceptible they are to this once the initial hooks are in, and the harder they are to deprogram. This is because while this kind of conditioning does not rely on intelligence, the ability to rationalise does -- the smarter someone is, the better they can rationalise what they already believe, so if theyāre committed to following their feelings, a smart person is much better at making it seem (to themselves as well as others) that theyāre actually using logic and reason rather than making ad-hoc justifications after the fact.
Also, people who know (or believe) that theyāre smarter than average tend to assume that this makes them harder to fool, conditon, or lie to. Which makes somebody much easier to fool, condition, or lie to.
So I am from the US but now live in Argentina, and as The American(tm) I often get reasonably asked the question, "Why are Americans, you know, like that?"
The best and most immediate answer I could come up with, and the one I've stuck to, is telling people that America is a country defined by being a haven for cults and religious extremists since its inception. And people are always like "god that makes so much sense."
But you know, the wildest thing is if I tried to tell any given American this (which I have) chances are they'd be like, "No way, that's absurd." And I think the thing is, if you're an American and have lived most or all of your life in America, this is just your normal. But when you live somewhere that is less saturated with religious dogma, cults and anti-intellectualism, it's readily apparent.
do not spout the line 'you are not immune to propaganda' if you just unquestionably accepted ideas of gender. gender is a social construct that should be abolished not reinforced. creating more genders does not take away the oppressive nature. queer culture can be incredibly damaging and misogynistic to women.
how is it possible for these men to visually identify lesbian porn when deciding which porn thumbnail to click on? if they themselves are lesbians, and lesbian sex can be between a cis and a trans woman or t4t and between two trans women, how do they know which pornography is lesbian, gay, or straight porn? unless the internal self described unique different-to-everyone gender identity of each porn actor is disclosed, how do they know itās lesbian porn? I mean surely they arenāt being bigoted and only referring to 2 afab people having sex as lesbian porn, and surely they arenāt being bigoted and having a genital preference and only watching afab lesbian porn. for all they know, the porn of 2 afab people could be be 2 trans men in a gay t4t relationship who are actually having gay sex. and as we all know, lesbian sex includes penises and males and females and all configurations of 2 people with bodies and identifies, there is nothing unique to lesbian sex except the internal self described unique different-to-everyone gender identity of the participants. so when these trans women say they are watching lesbian porn, what do they actually mean?
itās almost like they know that lesbian sex is between two female people regardless of identity and they will always be an outsider spectator due to their malenessā¦ā¦ almost
the erasure of the rape element in mythological retellings is so heinous it borders on misogyny
itās the idea that because rape as an act is misogyny, that talking about rape or including it in stories is also misogyny. as if acknowledging that women were denied agency and dignity somehow further denies us agency and dignity. when really, acknowledging the ways women were/are denied agency and dignity affirms that we are entitled to these things. a feminist story isnāt just a story in which no bad things happen to women. bad things do happen to women. pretending they donāt, and especially trying to superimpose that conviction onto the past, just because it isnāt as fun to dwell on, is not a feminist position.
Literally every modern retelling that ignores Persephone was kidnapped and raped (and forced to marry her rapist). I can't recall even ONE story based on this myth that at least vaguely implies the actual rape element
This is too good to stay in the tags

it is this 4ever everywhere u look
And they blocked me immediately lmaoooo
Note: I did not mention pheromones at any point??
there is a generation of young lesbian and gay kids who do not know itās okay and natural to be attracted to members of your own sex. they are being put through online conversion therapy by queer hets telling them that if they arenāt open sexually to someone of the opposite sex they are bigots. that a metaphysical concept of gender id trumps the actual physical body. these queer hets will outgrow this phase, return to their normal heterosexual lives, and they will laugh about this as if it isnāt gonna leave behind a bunch of young traumatized homosexuals.
Does anyone know any newish radfem or rad leaning books? Like 2010's to present day.
'Invisible Women' by Caroline Criado Perez is an incredible book that everyone should read, first published 2019, about the way society is built around men in literally every aspect of life
'Pimp State' by Kat Banyard, first published 2016, is an amazing takedown of the six main myths that surround the sex trade
'Firebrand Feminism' by Breanne Fahs, first published 2018, interviews and looks into the lives of prominent Radical feminists Ti-Grace Atkinson, Kathie Sarachild, Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz and Dana Densmore, as well as discussing the basics and historic origins of radical feminism as a grass roots movement
'Spinning and Weaving : Radical Feminism for the 21st century' edited by Elizabeth Miller, first published 2021, is an anthology of various essays on topics such as porn, intersectional feminism, lesbian feminism, transgender politics and more (some are better than others, it's 600+ pages so I'm making my way through)
'Trans' by Helen Joyce, published 2021 - not so much radical feminism - moreso gender critical, as Joyce herself claims to be 'fiscally conservative' - and a few takes I don't quiet agree with but overall an excellent comprehensive discussion of the current and historical political climate of trans issues
Why Women Are Blamed For Everything by Dr Jessica Taylor, about the psychology of victim blaming. Grim but straightforward reading. Itās been years since I read it, but also Natasha Walterās Living Dolls, about the hypersexualisation of young women and return of misogyny as āempowermentā. Also Testosterone Rex by Cordelia Fine, about the science of sex differences.

āPolicing the Womb: Invisible Women and the Criminalization of Motherhoodā by Michelle Goodwin (2020)

āWitches, Witch Hunting and Womenā by Silvia Federici (2018)
āButterfly Politicsā by Catharine Mackinnon (2017)
āPornland: How Porn Has Hijacked Our Sexualityā by Gail Dines (2010)
āThe Industrial Vagina: The Political Economy of the Global Sex Tradeā (2008), āBeauty and Misogynyā (2005), āGender Hurts: A Feminist Analysis of the Politics of Transgenderismā (2014), āUnpacking Queer Politicsā (2003) by Sheila Jefferys
"The Baby Business: How Money, Science, and Politics Drive the Commerce of Conception" by Debora Spar (2006) is a little older but it's a fascinating critique of surrogacy and the fertility industry as a whole
One I saw going around was about women contributing to the objectification and sexualization of themselves and other women.
It's called; Female Chauvinist Pigs: Women and The Rise of Rauch Culture by Ariel Levy.
"Penile Imperialism
The Male Sex Right and Women's Subordination"
by Sheila Jeffreys
Came out last Fall. Amazing book because it covers current topics like consent, the rise of sexual kink, prostitution and transgenderism to name a few. I thought I won't read anything new after I read her book "Beauty and misogyny" (which is a must-read) but it's worth the buy. Clear, concise, critical and informative.

You know what I'm sick of? It's actually not "healthy masculinity" to stand up for the vulnerable, or call out your peers, or whatever. Any of that stuff would be the healthy and right choice for anyone. Why do men need to be convinced with gendered language before they'll do the right thing? If a man does something supportive of women but refers back to his sense of gender identity as the justification, he's still just as absorbed in self worship and superiority as a man who openly acts entitled to women.

Imo both of these people are describing genuine phenomenons, but neither are able to reconcile how the phenomenons are able to exist at once, because they're not seeing it as gendered. Teenage boys/young men are indeed using more porn than ever and teenage girls/young women indeed feel more than ever ashamed for having sexual desires. There also seems to be a sub-split between older gen z, where the girls are ashamed in the typical "puritan" sense; and younger gen z, where they are sexual, but only because they're super super into their own objectification. Either way, they're both based in the idea that sex is for men and men alone. All of these things can coexist for one obvious reason. I think holding young men accountable for being porn addicts and getting young women to unlearn the demonization of sexual desire are two sides of the same coin
id also add that the shame women and girls feel is directly a result from boys and men normalizing the objectification of women and hypersexualization of women and girls
oh my god I just found out why the entire "minority men aren't oppressed for being men theyre oppressed for [insert other minority]" bothers me. It sets men as the default, again. It frames men as a default and allows people to skip over and perpetrate bigoted ideals with little backlash while dorectly going against intersectionality. Racism against a black man is " just racism", youre not allowed to talk about it outside of that. Marking something as "just" racism, "just" transphobia, "just" abelsim ect lessens the idea of it. Its JUST the default, after all.
Intersectionality states that all facets of someones identity and situation leads to the type of oppression they face, you cannot seperate one thing from another. Race, sex, gender identity, wealth, where you live, sexuality, health. None of these can be seperated when talking about challeneges and bigotry an indiviual faces. Setting bigotry against minority men as a default perpetuates and upholds patriarchal bigotry and makes room for microagressions and macroagressions to be diminished and overlooked as we've seen time and time again. This idea that "man" excludes someone from facing targeted bigotry somehow is wrong, men of color are opressed on the axis of being MEN of color, same woth disabled men and trans men and intersex men. You can't just dismiss bigotry on the basis of gender or sex.
If you dont want men set as the default, stop setting them as the default.
yeah yeah and I am oppressed on the axis of being a WHITE woman. stop setting whiteness as the default and acknowledge how I'm also oppressed for being white, not just whatever the fuck else
y'all are only doing this shit when it comes to men, but not any other type of oppressor. you don't do it with white people, rich people, straight people fuck off. this dick riding is fucking pathetic
when we say that "minority men aren't oppressed for being men theyre oppressed for [insert other minority]", what we mean is that what these men are experiencing is racism, ableism, homophobia, etc, not misandry, not a form of sexism. the way racism ableism and homophobia manifest is different between moc/woc, disabled men/disabled women, gay men/lesbians because the way the patriarchy, racism and class society interact relies on stereotypes about maleness that say some men are less worthy than others, but that still posit minority men on top of minority women. which means these men are not oppressed for being men, but for being part of a minority group. if anything thatās the opposite of setting men as the default bc this sentence acknowledges how minority women are put in an even more vulnerable position than minority men bc of the intersection of sex race and class and are often even victimized by the men of their group
