unpopular opinion probably but I actually like that ao3 doesn’t let people take back their kudos.
unlike social media platforms (which ao3 is not) where people unlike stuff whenever they think or find out the original posters’ moral compass doesn’t perfectly align with their own’s or whatever, and “likes” can be taken back at any time, ao3 treats kudos as something sacred. once you give it, it’s the author’s to keep forever.
But it does mean that there's a certain subset of readers who refuse to give kudos because there's no take backs and they're terrified of being found out for kudosing a problematic fic
I will say this for their benefit and thereby also for The Good Of The Order™:
An AO3 account is NOT NECESSARY to leave kudos on a work.
I just re-kudos'd a fic by opening a Private Window (the vast majority of browsers [with that feature {aka Incognito Mode, etc}] run the window without the cookies for logins) and, while visiting the fic page as a guest in that Private Window, I was able to leave Kudos. Never had to login to AO3 in any way (just had to accept AO3's T&C). Heck, I had my VPN on, too; and I use Vivaldi browser, which is very privacy-forward by default—I doubt AO3 received any information from the interaction that could be connected to my online identity.
So, for anyone fearful of having a kudos connected to their online identity, y'all can leave kudos anonymously while logged out/browsing incognito. It is safe.
And, of course, one may add a private bookmark (while logged in) that won't be seen by other AO3 users.
Unless of course the work is only for logged users, a thing happening more and more often, because of AI scrapers. If it's only for logged in, you won't even open it, not to mention kudoing it.
And yes, I'm one of those who is not leaving kudos under WIPs unless I trust the author with my life. I still remember that one TWD fic back in the day that promised to be something entirely else and turned into a shitshow of themes I would NEVER support. And guess what, my kudo is still underneath. Nevermore.

Goodmorning to the Anthropic Claude AI training scraper that suddenly decided to request 660 thousand pages (exactly the number I had remaining on the starter plan) and brought Pikiwedia down.
Sudden switch from diverse user agents like chrome, safari, messenger preview to Just Claudebot. I'm not even mad though, this is maybe the funniest thing possible, because I've inadvertently poisoned their training data with thousands of fucked up articles with normal urls.
Pikiwedia perseveres, back up with a better robots.txt. I hope Anthropic has a gery vood time with Pikiwedia's data :))

Yeah sure that photo is fake, but what ISN'T fake is the fact that the largest lion's mane jellyfish found was about 36 meters long. The average blue whale is about 25 meters long btw.

Some of my favorite jellyfish (sorry if I go on a tanget and vear off jellyfish)
are the Stygiomedusa gigantea, which I believe is also called the blanket jellyfish, but like dude look up a video of it moving it is chilling and fantastic! This thing is 10 meters long, so not the largest here, but ohohoho look at my love
It is a deep sea jellyfish and is one of the largest invertebrate predators known. However, according to Cambridge, it has been consistently recorded in the twilight and sunlight depth zones down south so do with that what you will :)
If we want to keep going down the large and length category of ocean creatures, allow me to introduce the current longest recorded ocean animal. A deep sea siphonophore that clocks in at around 46 meters; my beautiful death halo
Technically siphonophores are hundreds upon hundreds of tinier organisms that grouped together to make a bigger one, but for all intents and purposes, this is one animal. Some of them are incredibly beautiful!
However there is also ones not so pretty, main one was something I saw a month or so ago and it looked like someone had fused like a dozen human limbs together and they were flailing to move and jesus christ yall can go mentally scar yourselves.

There are lots of reasons why fandom is "quieter" now than it used to be. Some theories are more compelling to me than others, and they all have a different scale of impact. We'll never know for sure, of course, but I like to think about it. Thus, this poll.
