(American authors need to be banned from touching ancient Greece again, I'm so serious. Read the original sources, do your research, watch some videos if you have to, etc. Fuck Christopher Nolan too.)

A large gripe I have is how authors and many people take the texts of Ancient Greece and their stories and apply a modern view on it.

Yes, some of the things that happened back then are terrible in this time and age but if you are going to rewrite or make a retelling of a popular Greek tale, you have to view that text in its same ancient ideology. The two viewing standpoints can't co-exist at once so you gotta pick one.

That's also where a lot of these so-called "feminist" retellings fail because by viewing the characters and their stories in a modern perspective, they happen to remove the autonomy they actually had. In some cases, they'll take women who are just as evil and terrible as any problematic man and change them into a poor, defenseless victim of her surroundings.

Women can't even be evil for no reason now? Pack it up. Don't get me started on how someone talks about Greek mythology but brings up a Roman myth. Medusa was a monster-born woman who has killed many people with no shame about it AND had a consensual relationship with Poseidon. In the Roman version, he takes advantage of her and now, people keep on mistaking the Roman story as the Greek one.

Apparently, there's a story where Medusa kills a bunch of women and children? Neat, I may have to find that if I can. I'm pretty sure it was by Lucan? She also has two sisters who were gorgons so it doesn't make much sense if she's the only one born a human woman.

I unfortunately learned about a retelling about Andromeda. I'm not reading it for obvious reasons but one of the reasons is how Perseus is depicted, the same from Andromeda. I blocked the author already but it doesn't feel enough. Can't really build a time machine and prevent the book from being written, sadly. She could've made Perseus a woman instead? I doubt that she even read a simple summary of Perseus's story. They're one of the few couples that are very happy together and Perseus seems to treat her quite well so where did this come from? And the stuff I heard about what's written in the book? This bitch got some issues, it's actually disgusting.
