Not to be the world's youngest boomer but I hate that everything's trying to be touchscreens now
Washing machines and stoves and all that ought to have dials. It's not right for them to not have dials. Put them back they can't breathe
WAIT A SECOND YEAH. THIS IS PART OF THE PUSH TO MAKE TECH MORE INTIMIDATING AND LESS REPARABLE ISN'T IT. Tech CEOs when I get my hands on you
they got fucking stoves with capacitive touch buttons now. right where the spilled pasta water goes.
glad to know people will still be experiencing this video for the first time this daylight savings
if you've never engaged with a creative art on a regular basis you need to understand that it requires concerted effort to get into "the groove" to make something and every second that it takes to get into that groove causes physical pain, but the only thing worse than doing it is not doing it.

Ok this is a long shot but, crafts minded people, can anyone think of any crafts that fit this absurdly stringent list of requirements?
Can be done in low light.
Can be done lying down flat.
No mess, ie paint or small beads that could get lost in a bed.
Can be done in intervals of 5-10 minutes - easy to put down and pick back up without messing it up.
Does not require a lot of arm movement - can be done with just hands, with upper arms and elbows at rest.
All necessary items can fit in a fairly small pouch, like a pencil case or toiletry bag, to remain self contained and take up minimal space.
Setup and takedown takes a couple minutes max.
Learning curve is cognitively gentle, ie no complex knitting math type thing.
Please feel free to reblog and appreciate any suggestions. It's difficult finding fulfilling activities compatible with my disabilities!
Ahhh I didn't expect so many responses! đ Thank you all so much! I can't wait to start looking into them in more detail.
For now I'll just clarify - lying flat on back or side. If I could lie on my stomach that would open up a lot of options because it would be much easier to look down at something I'm doing in front of me with my hands.
And I'd be able to lay the activity down on a surface and use both my hands to engage with it. As it stands, I need to be able to both hold up the activity where I can see it (if it's vision dependent) and do the activity at the same time.
Bonus points if it involves music or sound! Maybe I should learn to play the ocarina.
I can't convey how touched and grateful I am that so many people offered so many applicable ideas. I feel like my life could open up in ways that I didn't think were possible.
I've picked just one to start with. I want to try everything! But I am now too old and sensible to indulge that impulse. I'll start with one, and if that becomes habit or doesn't work out I'll try something else.
Not gonna say which one yet, because I think there's some truth in the concept that talking about something you're gonna do in advance can sap the motivation to actually do it, by prematurely triggering the internal reward signals.
I would also take it as a personal kindness if you would consider reblogging this. You all have created a treasure trove in the comments that can be life changing for people in situations like mine, and I would love for them to get the chance to see it. I have very specific requirements but I'm sure many of these ideas would be helpful for people in a variety of circumstances.
@creekfiend @thebibliosphere I hope you don't mind me tagging you as chronically ill people with a lot more followers than me. No pressure of course.
my favorite thing in the muppet show is when jim did an impressive puppetry trick but was clearly worried the audience wouldnt notice so he had kermit just directly point it out
he was probably right to do so though because every time i see kermit drink milk or blow out a candle i dont think twice about it like yeah hes kermit he can do that
certified muppets post
This person wrote a manifesto I ainât reading all that but this is literally the type of behavior im talking about the idea hobbies all cost money is so removed from reality if you have the time to pick up your phone and write 7 paragraphs on how im victimizing you with my offhanded post you have the time to watch a movie on YouTube with your very same phone instead come on now. How is you freaking out on the internet helping any of these issues
things that dont cost money: hiking, walking, birdwatching, identifying plants, drawing (you have a pen, reading (library), collecting rocks, dancing, singing.... etc wtc etc
if you cant find a hobby you can afford, thats a you problem. and if youre posting online, you have a device to do that, get some free games, trawl wikipedia, study something. stop picking fights online and do something else.
if you can write an essay about it on your phone you can write fanfic or poetry or something on your phone also and it will be much nicer for everyone involved, including you
âeveryone is mad at me and they just wonât tell meâ â> âno one has said anything about being mad at me and i havenât done anything to warrant being mad at so if someone is silently fuming about me and not saying anything thatâs their problem and actually quite weird of them and i can effortlessly move on with my lifeâ
this took SUCH a huge deal of unlearning because, like so many of you, i came out of a home where being quietly in trouble WAS the default state, and i DID grow up not just with the assumption but borderline religious conviction that Everyone Is Mad At Me, I Am Bad, I Must Exist In A Constant State of Attempting to Pacify The Natural Rage I Inspire In Everyone. and no it actually turns out that my family are the freaks . and yours are too
âthis isnât true because i DEFINITELY silently fume at people in the hopes theyâll figure out what they did and apologizeâ thatâs not good. you shouldnât do that
âthis isnât true because the ex-friendship that traumatized me ended explosively after they were mad at me and never told me whyâ thatâs not good. they shouldnât be doing that
âi donât think this is true because my current friend group is constantly icing me out until i figure out what ive done to upset them and properly apologized without being toldâ hey thats not good. they should not be doing that
if the peacefulness of your relationship with someone (familial, romantic, friendly, anything) can be destroyed by effective communication/asking them for effective communication, you have got to get out of there. if you canât get out of there, youâve got to throw away any ideas about what that person thinks of you because they have their own shit to figure out before they can accurately read anyone else
getting lost in boston is fun because I turned around on a street corner three times and some guy yelled "hey stupid! the bus is that way!" very helpful interaction and accurate insult, 10/10 no notes
one time I walked around a building a couple times looking for a bathroom and this guy went "this bitch thinks she's on a merrygoround, where the fuck are you tryna go? bathroom? one floor down to the right behind the door that says bathroom."

crossposting from bsky - glad I stopped using spotify when I did and that I unlinked it from my discord, but still
[ reddit thread | bsky post ]
Everything after (and including!) the question mark is the identifier. Destroy it!
It looks like turning off the new social feature in settings might stop this.
Tap your initial/profile image in the upper left, then go down to "Settings and privacy." Next, tap "Privacy and social."
Scroll to the bottom of the next set of options where you'll see "Social features" and "Messages." Toggle that shit off.
Before I did this, whenever I went to share a link, a list of people I know (and some I can't even identify!!) popped up as suggestions to share to within Spotify itself. Now that I've toggled this setting off, I get the standard external share options. So, toggle this stupid privacy invasion off, and remove everything after the ? in links you share, and you should be good*.
* as good as you can be nowadays anyway.
I'm sorry, is this... Is this implying there's no DYE in that rug? All raw wool in its natural colours? She fucking bred the sheep to get the colours she wanted over the course of ten years!? Holy shit.
Gandalf in The Hobbit: You are Took and that makes you absolutely suited for adventure!
Gandalf in The Fellowship of the Ring: Who the FUCK let the Took come on this adventure?
He learned his lesson
Nah you guys donât get it. For all that Gandalf complained about Pippin, he better than anyone else knew that Pippin was absolutely crucial. Pippin accomplishes a very impressive feat: not only does he manage to see something in the palantĂr (most hobbits would perceive nothing, as these stones were designed for use by high elves), but he manages to close his mind against Sauron. That is a seriously impressive feat of ĂłsanwĂŤ given Pippinâs youth and almost total inexperience. The only clue Sauron manages to glean from the meeting with Pippin is that he is in Meduseld: which Pippin probably did not even directly give to him. Pippin did not tell Sauron his name, so Sauron is led to believe that Pippin is Frodo. I remind you, in the books, the Good Guys manage to trick Sauron, by making him believe that Aragorn has claimed the One Ring. They can only do that because of Pippinâs ridiculous feat of ĂłsanwĂŤ. Far from sabotaging the mission, he is the one who allows it to succeed (albeit, not on purpose). This is why Sauron doesnât think anything is fishy when Aragorn wins the Battle of the Pelennor Fields by controlling ghosts: that would be consistent with the idea that he is using the One Ring. Which Sauron believes that Pippin brought to him. This is why Sauron pulls out his old âplay nice and weakâ card from his NĂşmenor days. He first of all believes that Aragorn is a lot more powerful than he actually is, and secondly thinks that the Ring is beginning to affect him.
He should perhaps have remembered that Aragorn is named for Fingolfin. Fingolfinâs mother-name, ArakĂĄno, would properly be translated to Sindarin as âAragornâ. Most people would not show up to an enemy fortress with an army they knew was far too small, and start a battle they knew they would lose. But Fingolfin famously did exactly that.
When you read the line âfool of a Took!â It is important to understand that in the context of Gandalf calling himself a fool on several occasions. Galadriel too sees beyond the veneer of foolish naivety in Pippin. She gives him and Merry belts that almost definitely were once her brothersâ. A golden flower on a gift from Galadriel can only be a golden lily, the sigil of the House of Finarfin. Galadriel, while all hell was breaking loose in Tirion, raided her brothersâ rooms and took their belts from when they were little kiddos, hauled them across the HelcaraxĂŤ, and then held onto them for three Ages before giving them to two hobbits she just met. Merry, of course, is comparable to Angrod and Aegnor: his great deed is done in a moment of beserk rage, and it is a feat of strength. This then implies that she is comparing Pippin to Finrod. Thatâs one hell of a complement coming from Galadriel: but as I just pointed out, entirely warranted. Pippin manages to reproduce Finrodâs feat of radio silence, in the face of torture by Sauron. Which again, is extremely impressive given that Pippin is far younger and less experienced than Finrod was.
You see me <3
Could u please do a tutorial on torture đ
OH. YEAH I CAN DO THAT

I'm volunteering for a literary journal right now and there's two things I think you all should know.
1. Most people that submit to literary journals are cis white men. We know this because our journal has an anonymous survey about demographics for people that submit.
2. Most things that get submitted to the creative non fiction section are on the level of middle school "What I did over the summer" essays.
I cannot see the demographics of the people whose essays I'm reading, but guys, if you are wondering if you should submit your work to a literary journal or not, I promise you that just in terms of statistics there are a lot of mediocre cis white men and people in general confidently submitting weird crap that isn't literature to literature magazines. Do it. Submit your work. Please. If you want there to be more diversity in literature, be the diversity. Do it. Do it do it do it.
In general literary magazines want to include more diversity, but if poc, queer people, disabled people, etc. don't submit their work then they aren't gonna get more diverse because we just won't have the material necessary to get more diverse. Submit your work. Do it. Do it. Do it do it do it.
Here's a list of university run literary journals. Do it. Get published.
Many indie lit mags also welcome works from BIPOC and LGBTQIA creatives because the editorial staff themselves are in that demographic. Quarantine brought on the start of the SO many indie lit mags - itâs almost a golden age. Donât be afraid to submit â there will always be so many niches and aesthetics that one will bound to be the one that fits your style.Â
There is so much work from marginalized narratives in litmags these days â people lament there is no representation in media, but that disregards the progress and diversity of the works of editors and writers who help make these litmags possible.Â
There is representation, and it is flourishing. They are waiting to be read.Â
The Lumiere Review compiles a list of submission opportunities every month, and it are always very useful:Â

(And even if some litmagsâ mission statement isnât specifically for marginalized creators, they will always welcome these narratives.)
So please, please submit!
Independent magazines are great too! Iâm more familiar with the university journal scene so I appreciate this addition.
hello, this is a list of asian literary journals!! it emphasizes south-east asian journals, but thereâs a few from other regions as well
