The first and most obvious lie by omission about Black Hawk down is the reason Somali militants were targeting helicopters: the US turned an international peacekeeping mission into a battle for regime change and so, when a bunch of “high value targets” met in one place FOR A PEACE SUMMIT they killed everyone with attack helicopters.

Next, the much-lauded but still baby-killing troglodytic meatheads of the US Army Rangers proceeded to use the same overly complex strategy of raiding buildings from helicopters FIVE TIMES IN A ROW. Less than a week before the battle, one such helicopter was hit by an RPG and limped back to base but these arrogant racists thought it was a fluke.

So, the sixth time they use the strategy, a Black Hawk goes down and is swarmed. Then another. A third is hit hard enough to have to retreat. A rescue convoy from the Rangers faces such concentrated resistance that it has to retreat.

Here, I think, is that part that frustrates me the most: the movie implies that the US soldiers faced crowds of hostile, dark skinned barbarians and only ever shows a Somalian kill a civilian on accident. In reality, the Rangers stranded in the middle of Somalia’s urban capital carelessly killed untold thousands of civilians and the only reason any of them escaped alive was that they took women and children hostage and the Somali commanders acquiesced to the families begging that the location not be mortared to dust as had been planned.

The Americans were only finally extracted by a Pakistani force of UN troops. The Rangers were withdrawn in shame and a POW who was never rescued became a warlord’s propaganda video. The civil war they enflamed is still ongoing but the US has washed its hands of it and turned Somalia into a base for pirates in the public consciousness.

Next, "die" does mean "day," though nominative singular is "dies," i.e. "dies irae." It could be conjugated "die" if it was in ablative or locative case, but "die ad die" would mean something more like "day to day." "Ad" is in a "to" direction and "ab" is from, i.e. "ab urbis," and ablative case is used to indicate the movement of a thing. In short, "by" is not really a way to translate "ad"; we might want "per" here? (Through, by means of, etc.)
