Don’t let the things of this world overwhelm you. Knowing is Being.~#practiceawareness #awareness #consciousness #innerpeace💫 https://www.instagram.com/p/BuskuF8Fce8/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=18p8ts2xl1l5y
Own your mood Own your energy . . . One of the things that I’ve learnt on the mat - especially with a practice like Ashtanga yoga which requires a lot of self discipline - is that no one else is responsible for my own energy or my own mood, but me. Not my husband, not my friends, not my co-workers, not my family, not even the events around me. No one but me. . It sounds like such a simple concept, but we often forget this. When we’re angry, grumpy, unmotivated, upset or sad, it’s often due to our own reaction of some external event. However, to stay in that state and bring that mood/energy with us, is an act that we choose to do. It’s not always a conscious choice - but it is still a choice! We play these stories in our heads (which sometimes comes out through our conversations) of why we deserve to be in this state because of said person/event. And we play it over and over again even when the moment has passed. Sometimes for hours, sometimes days, sometime months, sometimes even years... . So how do we “snap out of it”? How do we release ourselves from this cycle? Awareness. Learn to notice it when it happens. No judgement, no need to analyse, no need to justify - just notice. Notice when you’re holding on to that feeling, and be a non judgemental witness to the stories playing in your head. And with a deep exhalation, try to let it go. If it pops up again a minute later, that’s okay. Notice it, and try again. No harm done. And keep going, until one day you realise that you can”snap out of it” much quicker than you used to. . #practiceawareness #onebreathatatime #thisisyoga (at Singapore)
I overheard my teacher say this to one of his students today: “Don’t try to avoid what comes up. Learn to pass through it the best you can.” This, to me, sums up the purpose of doing asana (poses) in yoga. . #yogalessonsarelifelessons . . . #ekapadabakasana #flyingcrow #ayearofyoga2018 #ayearofyoga2018_sunitha #armbalance #yogaarmbalance #strongyogi #practiceyogachangeyourworld #practiceawareness #yogaeveryblessedday #yogaeverydamnday #yogalove #yogagirl #yogilife #igyoga #instayoga #yogainspiration #yogaquotes #yogachallenge #yogacommunity #yogisofig #practiceandalliscoming
Don’t waste your energy on trying to be good, or be nice, or be right. Turn your efforts inwards - learn to be aware of your thoughts, your actions and your reactions. And over time, being will naturally happen. . . . . #practiceawareness #anjaneyasana #anjaneyasanavariation #lowlunge #lowlungevariation #mermaidpose #backbend #yogabackbend #bendsoyoudontbreak #heartopeners #shineyourheart #loveyourbodynomatterwhatyourbattle #breastcancerawareness #pinkmonth #practiceandalliscoming #yogisofig #yogisofinstagram #igyogacommunity #igyogafam #IGYogisUnite #sgyoga #sgyogis #hipflexorstretch #yogalife #yogaeveryblessedday

Women doing yoga would have, at some point, been confronted with the subject of practicing yoga during your menstrual cycle. Traditional Hatha and Ashtanga yoga strictly discourages women from doing yoga during that time of the month. But our “Girl Power” western influence often push aside these notions as ‘backward’ since we’ve been taught that women can do anything men do - period or no period! . Women can do anything, I agree. But if we’re rebelling for the sake of rebelling (“what do these old fashioned people know anyway, I know me better!”), then we should question if the decision to go against these teachings stem from our ego, or truly from a place of deep intelligence. . Not all yoga practices are discouraged during the menstrual cycle. Only those that reverses the flow of energy. During our moon cycle, waste is released from our body. Actions or poses that reverses that flow of energy would cause this waste to stay in the body, sometimes for longer than it should. And it is the belief that over time, stagnant energy (or waste) can accumulate to cause disease. . So yoga poses where the hips are above the heart for a long period of time (e.g. inversions, some arm balances and backbends), and breathing techniques that causes upward moving energy from the pelvic region (e.g. kapalabhati, kumbaka, mula bandha, udiyana bandha) are generally discouraged. . Obviously we individuals still have a choice on what we practice when. But if we can’t replace our inversions or arm balances for something else (perhaps meditation or yin yoga) for a few days in a month, we should perhaps explore the attachment that we have to these “strong” poses. What are we so afraid to lose? . . . . . #practiceawareness #yogapractice #yogaperiod #attachment #padmasana #lotuspose #lotuslegs #baddhapadmasana #menstrualcycle #realyogapractice #practiceandalliscoming #yogisofig #yogaissues #yoga #seatedpose #yogapose #ashtangayoga #primaryseries #ashtangi #yogaeveryblessedday #yogalife #yogalessonsarelifelessons #liveyouryoga #yogaislife #IGYogisUnite #igyogacommunity #sgyoga #practiceyogachangeyourworld

I started yoga as a form of exercise, a way to somehow achieve a "good body". But over the years, that thought process was detrimental and it slowly became more and more superficial. The yoga practice has offered me so much more than just trying to achieve a body type. I no longer worry about how my body looks, because me as a whole is so much more than just this body. And instead of being critical and judgemental over this body like I used to, now I have nothing but gratitude for housing me though this journey. So in return, I WANT to treat this body with love and care. #practicegratitude #practiceawareness #practiceyogachangeyourworld . . .
