Resteraunt servers have the funniest and most surreal workplace stories of any profession. They have the job that mean nurses think they have. The entire world is working against them the entire shift. And then you feel terrible for laughing. Itās not funny that you tripped and spilled an entire ice tea all over a toddler and the kid started screaming at the top of his lungs. Nobody was having a good day, thank God it wasnāt a hot coffee. Thatās not funny. I did laugh so hard tears started rolling down my face when you recounted this mortifying ordeal though.

its really cool that we discovered glass which is the material that doesnt have any chemical reactions with anything in the universe very useful for doing chemistry due to being able to put things in it to contain chemical reactions and never having it react with the things that are in it due to it being completely and entirely unreactive to every chemical

DICKS OUT FOR HYDROFLUORIC ACID!!!
NOT A GOOD IDEA!!!!!
Hey idk who needs this but helpful reminder that "virgin blood" in any witchcraft shit that requires that means "virgin" in the same sense as "virgin hair" means hair that hasn't been dyed or processed in any way, natural in the default sense. So no, "virgin blood" doesn't mean blood from a virgin, just blood that hasn't been used for any other kind of witchy shit earlier.
Whether nor not someone has fucked before is completely irrelevant. Any act of fucking doesn't instantly make someone contaminated or un-magic any of their shit. You're just not supposed to re-use blood for blood magic. That's just not. Just do not. Like that's just weird who does that.
Thank you homunculus! Quick question, why do you know that?
Instinctively, like how a pigeon understands how magnetic fields work the way they do.
If anybody wants to know what it would look like if there was a Talmud for witchcraft, read the notes on this post.
I'm proud of you all (even though the rabbis would probably disapprove).
Every once in a while when I'm minding my own business, the urge to convert to judaism shows up, says nothing, stands at the door stating at me for 20 minutes in absolute silence, and then leaves without closing the door.
It's normal! Donāt worry about it :)
Bonus
Ive said this before but swear the biggest skill to learn as an adult is how to resist high-pressure sales tactics. You do NOT have to answer questions with anything other than "Sorry I'm not interested." No matter how nice they are or no matter how many follow up questions they ask or even how agitated they get when you stand your ground. Just keep saying I'm not interested. Don't answer their questions. Don't give them an opening to try to push back on your reasons. Be a fucking brick wall of I'm not interested.
When we bought our car, I told Sean to let me handle it. I walked in and said "We have X for a down payment and cannot pay more than Y in monthly payments." My Y number had some leeway, but I didn't mention that.
First thing the sales guy did after I laid down the rules was turn to Sean and go, "What's your number?" And Sean said. "Oh, no, you negotiate with Gayle."
So, strike one for the sales guy. Could not divide and conquer us by implying THE MAN would not surprised at what I laid down.
Sales guy then had to confer with his manager and left us at his desk for several minutes. I have a vague recollection (this was 16 years ago) of Sean and I amusing ourselves doing bits about the other people there to look at cars. I am sure we did not give off the stressed or nervous energy they were hoping for.
Guy comes back. His first offer is fifty dollars a month more than I told him we could pay. I looked at him and said "I gave you our upper limit."
"Well, but what's another 50 bucks a month?"
"Something I can't afford."
He didn't know what to do with my open and unashamed admittal that I had a budget because my money was finite.
He went back to talk to the manager again.
It took two more rounds of "I told you what I can afford" before he finally came back 20 bucks under what I'd stated as my max.
The trick to resisting high-stress sales tactics is doing the math at home, knowing exactly what you can afford, and then walking into the room and stating that number minus 15%. Then refusing to budge from that number. Never, ever, meet then where they want. Always meet them where you want. Because at the end of the day, you can walk away and go somewhere else and say "I told the people at Z what my terms were, and they refused to work with me. Here are my terms. Meet them, and you make a sale today."
I have been a salesperson. I tried very hard to make a living selling life insurance. I read all the books and failed many, many more times than I succeeded. In the end, I went into education, where the sales pitch is much more agreeable (do your homework and I'll give you a better grade).
Lemme tell you that sales people are like the fae folk in the old tales.
They are beholden to the magic number 3. Refuse a sales pitch three times and they are trained to give up. They are trained in many ways to "redirect a refusal", but three refusals means it's time for them to give up.
They cannot enter your home without your permission. But once given in any form, permission is tough to claw back.
They truly fear a failed deal. Sale folk feed on the magic of forging contracts. If they cannot meet their quota, they will starve.
Their deals are never symmetrical. Somehow, it's always weighted in their favor, usually in inscrutable ways.
Lemme tell you that
sales people are like the fae

single funniest entry in Star Trek predicting the future
A piece I did for Midsummer of my knight boys.
Been varnishing with a subpar paintbrush and now there's varnish all over my hands. "Derin go and wash your hands again" I have been doing that, but the thing about a fluid that is specifically made to stick to stuff and form a barrier that won't be easily dissolved or removed is that,
everything is dissolvable in something
i dunno if glue rules apply but glue is dissolvable in water or heat or Alkohol
I promise you that the fluid made specifically to paint onto exterior doors and decks in order to protect them from the weather is not easily dissolved by water or by any level of heat that I would apply directly to my body.
The recommended cleanup chemical for these kinds of finishes is mineral turpentine, which I make a habit of not putting on my body if I can help it. You *can* clean skin with turps (I splash it on myself accidentally all the time), but as someone quite sensitive to chemical burns I prefer to let the varnish dry and flake off on its own rather than to suffer through chemically induced dermatitis for no good reason. It just means that I can't handle my crochet projects until it does. :(
This is going to sound absolutely absurd, but I promise it works: If the varnish is oil based, you can loosen its grip on your skin with peanut butter. Get a wash cloth, dab sompeanut butter on it, and rub a thin layer of it on your hands. Then add warm water to tHe cloth and gently scrub at the varnish until the oil in the peanut butter softens it. It should come off with a little bit of dish soap and hot water after that.
Fantastic advice for other people but as an avid hater of peanut butter I do not allow that goop into my house.
Like often removes like- if peanut butter can remove it, that means it's oil-soluble. If you have any goo-gone you can try that, but also just coating your hands in olive oil for a minute and then washing with soap would be my best bet
My guess would be that the varnish is oil-based to resist water damage- olive oil or butter or vaseline could dilute the other binding agents in the varnish, then soap should be able to bind to the oil and make washing it all off easier?
we are never going to be free until it literally doesnt matter whether a person is ugly or not
shoutout to that thing from star trek tng where somebody was like 'won't the future have a way to make picard not be bald?' and they were like 'no no no, in the future nobody will GIVE A SHIT that picard is bald'
They called the two of you the Power Couple of the Light when you were the church's highest cleric and strongest paladin. But now, even though you're just as devoted as you always had been, only because of a little bit of death, they call you the Lich King Warlock and the Deathknight Revenant.

what do I have to do to go to events where people are dressed nicely and there are plates of free cheese cubes
Go to the inaugurations of littlely known artistsā exhibitions.
We are always begging for people to attend, there actually is the āhackā to invite your whole family but tell them to pretend they donāt know you. People with money are more willing to buy your work if they think many people likes it, so your mere presence eating our cheese and canapes will be a great helps. Please bring whoever you want too.
Donāt mind if I do!
I will dress like an eccentric weirdo if that helps.
one time a pal of my pals was having a tough time selling their work in an art exhibit and called us up on the last day, āusā being about 8 students who were Very hungry and also bored. We put on the nicest/artsiest clothes we had available (one dude had a legit fancy suit and put on some shades which were Bright Pink he looked like a movie star I swear) and rolled up to the show in pairs, separately. Fine Art Pal has some nice paintings! but nobody is really paying attention to them, so after getting some fancy cheese cubes in a manner that did not betray that we were actually a ravenous pack of starving students we casually wander around the show and then, fairly individually, drift to a stop by their work. Some of us even walked away, then came back a bit laterĀ ācaptivatedā by the art (it was actually really nice but recall we were all poor as shit and this was a help hustle). Our groupās interest naturally caught other folks, and eventually there was a small clump of about 15 people musing over this art, and within ten minutes the biggest piece had been snatched up by a shrewd investor. by the end of the exhibit every single piece was sold. It helped pay off the artistās student debt and on that success they got into another exhibit! Theyāve been doing well ever since.
So yes, please attend new artist shows, you get free cheese, get to look at nice art, and you can really help out people who deserve more attention.
Okay, but how do I find the new artist shows?
I gotcha! So, there are a few ways.
One! Use the maps app for a generic āGalleryā search to find galleries in your area. Then select some and follow them on social media or join their email list. They will post about openings (and sometimes closings) where you can meet the artist and get said noms and dress up fancy.
Two! Follow local museums on social media. I know this is advocating art shows, but museums often have openings with similar food and dress code that are also often open to the public (and will post more about the ones open to the public). They sometimes also have educational talks that might be free and fun!
Three! If thereās a specific (local) artist you like, follow their accounts too! They will let you know where their artwork is being displayed! (And you can also use where theyāve exhibited previously as a list of places to follow for my first suggestion!)
Galleries (and museums) want people to attend openings and exhibitions! They often donāt have the marketing budget to make a splash and rely on word of mouth and their community! So if you want to attend openings, just following their social media is usually enough to become part of the communities who know about the events! ^_^
great escape
