Drug fever. A new medication can cause a pretty intense fever out of nowhere.
I was on a cute little date when I noticed that my partner and her friend were saying they were cold, but I felt so warm. Uncomfortably warm.
I figured it was probably just me walking around in the sun in heavier clothing, so I poured cool water on a rag and wrapped it around my neck.
The rest of the day seemed pretty uneventful, I was just exhausted, a side effect of the medication, so I once again thought nothing of it.
Once in the car, I did tell my partner that I was warm and she turned the AC up for me. I was starting to develop a headache by this point.
I later made a passing comment about being so warm when she and her friend kept saying they were cold, that maybe the new medication was just making me feel warm, and she placed a hand on my forehead.
I had a fever.
I admitted to also having a headache and she gave me some Motrin. She sent me home with a ton of hugs and get well wishes. She is the kindest person ever!
I just woke up so sweaty and just feel so awful. We wondered if I had an incidental infection or illness (seeing as my immune system is usually pretty shot on a normal day), but other than the fever and headache, I seem okay. No flu, no pain anywhere, so to my knowledge it seems to just be a strong, adverse reaction to my new medication, to which the doctor did start me on a ridiculously high dose.
I’ll call the doctor in the morning. Wish me luck.
Update: I had to call in sick and call my doctor. Well.
Update 2: Electric Boogaloo: my fever has lowered quite a bit and at least now I feel… alive. I’m awake, at least. Most of today was just weaving in and out of consciousness. I have a killer migraine that just won’t go away, but other than that, I’m doing better! Probably going to get more shuteye shortly.
Update 3: I was taken off that med. Went to work today. Was doing okay until midway through my shift. I got so dizzy I had to take a knee multiple times. The fever came back with a vengeance. I was so warm and woozy that there were times where I thought I was going to be sick. I almost cried out of frustration. I just want this to stop. I have tomorrow off, so I’ll just rest. I’m so lucky to have very kind friends who work with me and could see I was dying and made me slow down, even when I wanted to keep pushing forward.
Update 4: final update (hopefully). I’m just wildly med intolerant. I’m doing better today, most of it has hopefully gotten out of my system. That was hell. Maybe I’m better off with nothin’.
