I saw the roadtrip all and it reminded me of my own situation that would be fun to put whumpees in.
First, I had a bad stress fracture in my foot that has gone untreated for months while I stubbornly finished my last year of gymnastics. It was now in a boot.
Then my family and I went on a two week long camping trip from California to South Dakota, in the summer, tent camping only, 9 people and all our supplies stuffed into a 9 seater suburban.
It was fine, at first. My foot has been in the boot for a few weeks and was feeling good enough to go on the hikes.
Then I got bronchitis with a really bad fever. I could feel the mucus and such crackling in me every time I breathed. I decided that it would be less bad if I put less liquid in me. It was also over 100f in the badlands of South Dakota. Guess who got very dehydrated? Guess what made everything so much worse?
Also having bronchitis made me get out of breath very easily. Paired with my broken foot, I spent a lot of time that trip napping in the car with the windows rolled down while the rest of my family hiked.
Anyway in spite of all that, I had a ton of fun on what was my last camping trip with my family before I got a job and started college and later moved halfway across the country from them.
But yeah, stress fracture plus bronchitis plus dehydration is not a fun combo. Also my dad offered to take me to the hospital when we were near one but I was feeling ok enough by then that I just waited to go to the doctor after we got home.
omg that sounds awful!!! i'm glad you had fun anyway!!
