Every day of the year has a theme, celebration, or observance of some sort. Here, I will be drawing inspiration from these to write daily prompts. Since some of them are quite ridiculous, this often leads to some quite specific prompts.

I'm hoping to both challenge my own creativity and put some hyperspecific variety into writing prompts.

"I've never seen anything like that." "Don't get a night sky like that in the big city, huh?" "No, absolutely not."

"I brought something..." "Hot cocoa?? You're incredible. Marry me."

"Look, it's Ursa Minor." "Where?" "There. See? It goes along there... How are you not seeing it? It's there! It's... Look! It's right there!" "That's just... stars! What the fuck are you talking about!" "I am going to lose my mind."

pulling the other in to whisper something... a threat, a promise, a compliment, an innuendo... who knows, but it is sure to feel intimate as hell

the typical moment when they shake hands and both squeeze hard to assert dominance

public figures acting cordial, locked in a handshake while being photographed as one, with a pleasant smile, reveals their betrayal to the other

reaching for a handshake but the other takes it and places a kiss on the back of it. bonus points if it is in a setting where this is not at all expected or typical

a hidden enemy yanking the other close as soon as they grasp hands and putting them into a headlock or pressing a weapon to their skin

secret lovers saying goodbye in public, their hands lingering awkwardly long as neither wants to let go

soulmate!au: in a very conservative society, where casual touches are rarely done, two allies only realise they are destined for each other when one congratulates the other after their wedding

"Come here, let me hug you. I'm sorry too."

"I know. Me too."

"I'm the one that should be apologizing."

"You've always made it hard for me to stay mad at you. Come here."

"You did nothing wrong."

"It's okay."

"It wasn't your fault."

"When I said I never wanted to see you again, did you not know what the word 'never' means?"

"You're either stupid or brave to be showing your face here."

"Did you expect that to be even remotely enough to fix this?"

*immediately escalates to physical violence*

Sensory Focus: describing every single experience is going to overwhelm the reader. instead focus on those that stand out or actually advance the story.

Show, don‘t tell… unless you should tell: yes, usually showing is better than telling, but not everything needs to be packaged in wonderful words and metaphors. if it has no grander impact other than context or setting the mood, you can just say that the character is cold

Narrative Focus: depending on the narrator, the focus might be on different things. This can be influenced by interests, fears, emotional state, experience, ... (For example, someone who enjoys art/architectue/ fashion/... will focus on that particular aspect of their surroundings...)

Noticeable Abnormality: people are creatures of habit, they are unlikely to take conscious notice of things that are the exact same way they always are. Focus rather on things that are unusual; like an unusual scent when coming into a room, unusual heat, a car that doesn't fit into this part of the city, ...

Emotional State: someone‘s emotional state is going to influence how well they pay attention to their surroundings and which details they focus on (For example, someone who is frantic might miss details)

focus on accuracy: mashing random letters is fast, but not very accurate. over time you will naturally get faster as you feel more secure typing accurately

practice: most of us (especially writers) are probably on their laptops and computers every day anyway, but sometimes a little bit of deliberate practice can go a long way

touch typing: typingclub.com is a great website for learning how to touch type, which is a technique set up for maximum speed and ease typing. that said, many adults who have gotten used to their own way of typing will be significantly slower & less accurate touch typing at first and it'll take some time to build up to your previous standard

pulled into small alleys or alcoves

grabbing their hand to pull them back from the group and giving a quick peck before someone can notice

blowing a kiss from across the room

sliding over a paper with their lipstick imprint on it or a request to meet somewhere private

quickly in passing for just a fraction of a second

before going out, to get their fill before mingling with others

having their designated spot to meet where they don’t have to hide for a minute or so

no physical move, but their eyes speak volumes about how much they want to kiss

lots of internal monologue and even dialogue with oneself

social awkwardness

despite longing for connection, avoiding it because they are not used to it

or: seeking connection anywhere they can, even in the tiny interactions with employees and strangers

making their home a very comforting space since they spend so much time in it

not feeling invited to activities unless explicitly told they are, and even then doubting it

not even considering the possibility of talking to someone

feeling warmth in their chest after a good talk with someone, only for it to twist into dread and doubt later on

“Can I use your arm to try out make up pigments in store?” “I mean, yeah, but not sure it’s going to actually help you figure out what suits you.”

“I thought you said he is your cousin.” “I honestly don’t even know how he is related. We might not be related by blood at all, but… Yeah, he’s my cousin.”

“Babe, I heard a noise in the basement.” “Yup, got it.”

whispering “I’m full.” “My mom is not going to let you leave without trying dessert, so suck it up.”

“You smell good. Did you steal my products?” “Steal them? I sampled, in great detail, every single one.” “I’m just glad you’re off the 5 in one.”

“Why did you kiss me so aggressively out of nowhere?” “The waiter thought we were siblings.” “Frankly, that raises more questions than it answers them.”

“So, what are we gonna do for dinner.” “… This is dinner.” “It’s 5.30.” “Yeah…?” “This is not dinner.”

S catches G being wholesome in a quiet moment and fights hard not to comment on it to avoid spooking G

grumpy does not mean not affectionate and G manages to pull off both: being grumpy and cuddling S to death

G not engaging much when S complains about something trivial, like a broken light, but the next day it is absolutely fixed and even improved

S knows not to overly acknowledge such acts more than a kiss to the cheek or the temple and a loving “thanks”

G staring at S being hyper in social settings with warmth in their eyes

S not hesitating to use G’s intimidation factor when they feel unsure about something or someone

A accompanies B to a concert and just stands there with a grumpy expression like a bodyguard while their eyes soften watching B

grumpy in public, super affectionate in private

distrust towards strangers

B is instantly beloved by A’s family

nobody else quite understands because to them it seems like A is just kind of a dickhead

introvert x extrovert

“Can we leave?” murmured into B’s ear every 10 or so minutes when socialising

B actually getting annoyed and exhausted with A's tendencies because sometimes it, by proximity, makes B look like kind of an asshole
