We had some sister missionaries over on Friday and they challenged us to give prayers of gratitude until Thanksgiving! It has been tricky to turn things I was to ASK for I to things I am THANKFUL for. My kids have done so well with this challenge! Now for THAT I am thankful! . Ever complain about something you KNOW is stupid?Recently I have been literally counting sheep as I paint these peg dolls for some nativity sets! As I painted I realized... this is a much larger project then anticipated. It takes a lot of sitting. A lot of time breathing and being patient with myself at something I am not naturally good at, but do enjoy! Then I realized A) This was my idea and they are super cute and I want my daughter to have one. She LOVES peg dolls. B)How often do I have an excuse to sit down and craft. C)Sitting down means Netflix Hallmark movies! Now THOSE I never get to sit and veg and watch! . It’s so easy to obsess over things. Some require your thought, but I have found with me that most don’t! When I am anxious I have started to simply count my blessings. It doesn’t always calm me down right away. It’s not always easy! I know Halloween is over so... Happy Thanksgiving! I am so grateful for my little family. Every Halloween we do family costumes. Every year it’s a pain. Every year my kids are so excited and my husband is so on board that it’s worth it! This year wasn’t quite as difficult. Mostly thrift store finds and some imagination! My kiddos helped a TON since a lot of my time is now taken by school! I am grateful to have people in my home who love my and appreciate my talents that seem of no use until Halloween! Lol. Choices are a pain sometimes! Some choices are easy, and others make you want to panic, hide in the closet, eat your secret stash of sour patch kids, and binge watch Great British Baking Show. Recently we made the choice to let our TEENAGER make a choice. She asked us to make it for her and, we were tempted! But, it was an important choice for HER to make. . That same day one of our hens had a tough egg to lay. Chances are this egg will have a double yolk! Choices... easy and hard are like eggs. You are going to have to choose. That egg is coming. But, sometimes the hardest choices yield the best rewards! Sometimes there is no right choice. But either way your egg is coming. If your choice is a double yolker you can decide to add some delicious cheese. You could be the weirdo who adds mushrooms. (Ew). You could make them taste bad or good. But be happy with your eggs! When you are a mom you get stuff done in creative ways. Often, this is how I sit with my 2 year old to get my homework done. While I do wish I had finished school sooner, I also think that this is the perfect time for me to start on my degree path. My older kids can see that even mom has to work hard in school and that lifelong learning is each of our responsibility. I do not regret for even and instant the choice to wait until my kids are little older. Granted... they are still young! As am I! But we all have a long way to go in the span of eternity! Now I am ready. Physically and spiritually. I can wait to see where this takes me and who I may be able to help along the way. Learn when you can people! Life is school! It’s hard to believe it has been 6 weeks since my first day of school! I was so nervous to start and so far it had been one of the best decisions of my life. It has been a blessing to be able to learn and teach my children that you can grow no matter your age! I was nervous able fitting school into my schedule, about what it may take away from my family. One of our chickens started laying eggs! It took her a good 6 days to lay 5! (Totally normal..) Of course... it doesn’t take a genius to notice that there are only 4 eggs in this picture! That’s because... I dropped the first one! Me! It wasn’t my kids fault. I didn’t trip. I just... dropped it. And you know what. It was ok. The shell and membrane on store bought eggs are way thinner. It was sad that I dropped it. But it didn’t crack completely and we just ate it right away. . How often do you drop the egg and it seems like everything falls apart? Maybe sometimes it really does but... mostly it’s just our thinking and our own guilt that is causing that reaction. Sometimes... you CAN drop and egg and everything WILL be ok. It may take time. The back of a quilt is often a tiny piece of artwork in it self. The backing on a quilt isn’t what people focus on. Often there is a backing that could easily be a quilt top and deserves the focus just as much, no matter how simple. Sometimes I think we focus too much on the obvious “pieces of artwork” in our lives. The “backings” that support us are just as deserving of our attention! . There are too many things to say on 9/11. So many stories of where people were, how people felt, who they knew. I had just graduated high school! I honestly didn’t know what to feel. But... after getting married and having kids and toting our little family around the country as a military fire fighter wife, after having friends and family go through things I never thought possible.... to say I have a new reverence for what people go through to attempt to protect us here would be an understatement. I am honored to live so close to NYC where I can visit the 9/11 memorial and teach my children that tragedies can happen at anytime. But, to never let that drag you down. Use it to make you strong. Yesterday I did a crazy thing. It happened by accident. I decided to become a better piano player this year. It makes me happy to create pretty music as well as pretty things. I happened to mention this to the choir director at church who happily gave me a piece that the choir was to sing! I thought it was just... to have a pretty piece of music to play! The next Sunday she asked if I had practiced it at all. This was back at the beginning of June! And... yesterday it ended with me playing this beautiful 10 page piece of music for our sweet tiny choir. I was a nervous wreck. I play for ME! I play for my children and husband! I had to restart 4 times. My son was my pages turner and casually stood up to block the audience from my view. “You’ve got this mom!” I have never almost wet my pants or puked in front of so many people. So scary. And to top it off... our organist was out of town so I was asked to play the opening and closing hymns as well! I would love to say I got all the fear of playing in front of people out in one day. But I totally didn’t. It was freakin scary. I am FINE talking in front of people. I would rather speak or even sing! Play piano.... that was new. That was hard. And... I DID IT! I am proud of me! I am so grateful for the gifts I was given. I hope I can use them to help others. To make them happy.
