In my haste to send this off, I neglected to add resources and ideas:
1) Here is a link to the African American Literature Book Club, or in their words
âa curated and growing collection of over 13,000 titles covering a century of Black writing from around the world. In addition to buying your books here, youâll find reviews, bestsellers lists, awards, excerpts, publisher information, and more.â
2) If you donât read books - and I will not judge - here are some ways to support this:
- get your Christmas shopping done early, this year, *everyone* learns about racism and how to be a better ally
- if you have kids, nieces, nephews or chosen family with kiddos, buy for them
- itâs the end of the year, give your (kidâs) favorite teacher a book to use in the classroom
- donate a book to your local libraries. they have more books by dead white guys that got us here in the first place. give them a quick call though so they donât get 100 copies of the Autobiography of Malcolm X. And, they might have a wish list
- donât forget, your schools have libraries too, and they also suffer from an imbalance of white authors. We may love some Charlotteâs Web, but thatâs not doing anything to teach the next generation about racism
