Movement nudge, hand mobility! 🙌
X
1) do this even if you're under 40. seriously. I definitely should have been doing something like this for years and I only turned 40 a month and a half ago
2) if you're like me just now trying this going "oh god i've only done 15 and i think my hands are cramping" start lower than 30 and increase by 5 once whatever number you're doing no longer makes your hand cramp up. I can manage about 15 per exercise at the moment.
If you're hypermobile, be especially gentle.
unfortunately i dont think its queerbaiting if the creator is just so terminally heterosexual that they never remotely considered the same gender relationship their show is centered around could be read as romantic. it is deeply painful however.
Maybe accidental queer baiting? The way someone may not mean to say something rude, but it may come off rude, so it's rude. Frustrating either way.
Not being a dick, just a friendly clarification.
By definition you can't accidentally queerbait. Queerbaiting is specifically using a same sex pair from the show to market the show to queer audiences with no intention of ever following through on a romantic relationship.
There is officially licensed Destiel merch signed off on by Kripke. Teen Wolf had a commercial with the actors for Derek and Stiles draped over each other talking about being "on a ship." Both shows actively used scenes between them as marketing while actively mocking fans for wanting them together. Sherlock has multiple characters refer to Johnlock as a couple, including characters we're supposed to believe are never wrong about human behavior and pushed those scenes in marketing. Then they acted insulted when fans saw them as a couple.
That's queerbaiting.
Done on accident it would just be queer subtext. Done because they had no other choice due to censorship is queer coding.
The specific meaning of the word is really starting to get lost and it's a pretty important one to keep accurate. It describes a very specific phenomenon that was done repeatedly and maliciously for decades and is meant to examine that specifically.
Doing it on accident sucks, but it isn't a tactic of capitalism intentionally intended to suppress queer representation while making money from queer fans.
Reblogging to keep the accurate definition and examples of queerbaiting circulating in the world
"This is my weird son. He can't climb for shit, but he is handsome and strong."
#cats be like#is anybody adopt that#and don't wait for an answer
Everything that isn't food is a cat from the perspective of a cat. Cats can look upon the true form of eldritch monstrosities and keep their sanity. They'd just see another cat. A fucking weird-looking cat, but a cat nonetheless.
"Those tentacles will take a lot of licking to keep clean, but it's nothing I haven't dealt with before. Hold still, kitten."
Nothing is going to change. Americans love their guns more than they love people and after Sandy Hook we decided that killing over 20 children was acceptable and not outrageous enough to make reasonable restrictions on guns. This is America, a country that has been around for 200 years, a superpower, a 1st world nation, and one of the wealthiest countries on the planet and we refuse to protect our own people. We respect guns more than we respect the lives of people.
What specific gun control measures would you propose and how would they directly and effectively make society safer?
Absolutely get rid of all AR-15′s and the like.
Intense background and criminal background checks and anything violent automatically disqualifies you.
Make getting a gun/gun permit more like getting a driver’s license:
permit to learn
includes an exam with 18 or more questions on the policies, laws, and etc of guns and gun ownership
if you get more than 8 questions incorrect you must retake it.
30 hours of practical experience at a gun range with a licensed teacher
Must take a 5 hour class on the dangers of guns and how to use them safely which will then yield you a certificate that grants you to take the practical exam and lasts for one year. If you don’t gain the license within the allotted year you must retake the class.
A practical exam with a licensed instructor who will grade you on various skills. If you pass you may be granted a permit on the weapon of your choice, the exams may differ on the type of firearm you want.
Follow the Japanese model where you must have two gun safes in different areas of the house, one to store the gun and one to store the bullets and you must provide the police with information on where those safes are.
No concealed carry and only handguns may be allowed to be out in public.
If transporting a weapon, it must be in the trunk of the vehicle, in a bag or some other case, safety on and unloaded and may not leave the vehicle until you are at the destination.
If you’re a hunter or some other gun hobbyist that requires a functional weapon other than a handgun then the gun must stay on the premises, whether that is a gun range or the Fish and Wildlife facility.
If you live in a rural area where police (and people, for that matter) are few and far between, something akin to a deer hunting rifle should provide plenty of protection from predators and poachers, you still have to follow the aforementioned steps.
This doesn’t cover everything but I think it’s a good place to start.
Can you show me evidence that this would directly and effectively create a safer society?
I have never laughed so hard at a gun law post. Like seriously, the evidence is in fucking reality. The proposed restrictions are just fucking logic.

Places where reality is a bit altered:
playgrounds at night
rest stops on highways
deep in the mountains
early in the morning wherever it’s just snowed
trails by the highway just out of earshot of traffic
schools during breaks
those little beaches right next to ferry docks
bowling alleys
unfamiliar mcdonalds on long roadtrips
your friends living room once everybody but you is asleep
laundromats at midnight
• any target • churches in texas • abandoned 7/11’s • your bedroom at 5 am • hospitals at midnight • warehouses that smell like dust • lighthouses with lights that don’t work anymore • empty parking lots • ponds and lakes in suburban neighborhoods • rooftops in the early morning • inside a dark cabinet
galeries in art museums that are empty except for you
the lighting section of home depot
stairwells
•hospital waiting rooms •airports from midnight to 7am • bathrooms in small concert venues
I just got the weirdest feeling I swear
OK LISTEN THERE ARE REASONS FOR THIS!!!
A lot of these places are called liminal spaces - which means they are throughways from one space to the next. Places like rest stops, stairwells, trains, parking lots, waiting rooms, airports feel weird when you’re in them because their existence is not about themselves, but the things before and after them. They have no definitive place outside of their relationship to the spaces you are coming from and going to. Reality feels altered here because we’re not really supposed to be in them for a long time for think about them as their own entities, and when we do they seem odd and out of place.
The other spaces feel weird because our brains are hard-wired for context - we like things to belong to a certain place and time and when we experience those things outside of the context our brains have developed for them, our brains are like NOPE SHIT THIS ISN’T RIGHT GET OUT ABORT ABORT. Schools not in session, empty museums, being awake when other people are asleep - all these things and spaces feel weird because our brain is like “I already have a context for this space and this is not it so it must be dangerous.” Our rational understanding can sometimes override that immediate “danger” impulse but we’re still left with a feeling of wariness and unease.
Listen I am very passionate about liminal spaces they are fascinating stuff or perhaps I am merely a nerd.
I, for one, appreciate your passion for liminal spaces and thank you for explaining it to the rest of us.
I get the playgrounds at night because I walk to one that’s near my house at night sometimes and hang out. I always feel like I’m being watched or followed, or rather something out of the ordinary is happening
Saw a post about someone thinking about how the exorcist style possession horror movies operate in an odd world where evidently catholism is literally right but nobody really questions that or delves deeper into the implications, people just accept that an odd rogue priest can banish demons by chanting latin at them.
Now I want a possession horror movie where instead of a catholic christian priest, the closest Man Of Faith they can find is a local rabbi. A rabbi who is insulted and disgusted by the implication that his role in his community is the same as a priest is to a church. He's not some Special Holy Man With Super Powers From God, that's not how any of this works. He can help with the demon but he's not going to do any magic man nonsense at it.
He goes to the possessed person, sits down, addressing the demon, and suggest they discuss this. Because clearly, a civilised being who is capable of speech is capable of intelligent thought, and is willing to debate on whether they should or should not be possessing this person. The rabbi has many arguments on why they should not be doing that, and he would quite certainly want to hear what the demon's arguments are for insisting to possess this person.
The rabbi does eventually drive the demon out, but it's not about chanting magic words and doing mysterious rituals, but a very pragmatic discussion of "you can't make me" vs "no, but I can annoy you until you do."
I would give SO MUCH to have this movie.
Had a silly idea to combine fae with PJO so here:
Perseus Silas Jackson has always attracted that which he should not. Even as a child, he knows the world is so much more than most think it to be.
He knows the strangers. How to recognise them, how to play their games, how to dance with danger and make it out, how to make deals without selling your soul.
He knows forests and the places that pretend to be them, knows how to twist words without lying and pick up loopholes, knows when to play ignorant, when to fawn, when to fight.
There was a time when he wondered if he was a changelling. It felt natural, the magic, these laws. Sometimes the waters moved when he asked them to. Sometimes the earth shook. Sometimes he felt more at home with the fae than with humans.
It's pouring and there's something chasing him, something he doesn't know. His friend is hurt and his mom is dead and it's pouring.
A life for a life, there must always be balance.
That thing is chasing him, not his mom. She traded her life for his. He was meant to die, not her. He is angry, so, so angry.
Ask not for favours, for you will regret them.
He finds that he doesn't care.
Summon not the fae.
He's hurt, the lightning near striking him down. He speaks their name to the meadow below him, knowing they will taste it and come.
Give not thy blood, for it will bind you to them.
He's aided strength to kill the beast, and uses it's horn to cut open his palm, the meadow red with poppies and blood. He passes out soon after.
"Percy." He introduces himself carefully.
Speak not of thy name, for a name is power.
Luke Castellan smiles brightly with something hidden behind his blue eyes, offering him stolen supplies.
Trust not the smiles and kindness, but do not disregard it.
Percy's first friends at camp are the children of Hecate. They talk of magic, read the future from cards and leave offerings of honey, milk and gemstones. He teaches them how to tell that-which-is-not-there from reality, how to escape their otherworldly forests and how to protects themselves. They teach him about the mist, runes and spells.
They still play capture the flag. He offers to help, he knows forests after all, even the normal ones, but Annabeth puts him by the creak nonetheless.
He gets claimed that day. He's not a changeling. He might as well be.
There are no fae at Camp Half-blood, so Percy ventures out before his quest, walking into the forest outside the border, to the whispering trees that drive people insane.
He might not be their child, a changeling, but he was raised by the fae nonetheless.
"You're ours now." They will say, teeth sharp likenwolves', his sharp like a shark's. "You gave us your blood."
Percy Jackson might have been claimed by Poseidon, but Perseus Silas has been claimed by the fae.
Luke will look at him with seeming honesty, as he hands him red, winged shoes.
Offer nothing but smiles, accept nothing but kindness.
Both the cards and the Oracle have warned him of betrayal after all.
A large part of the quest will go similarly. But there are certain things that shall change:
the Forest knows it's child, and it will keep it from danger. In this world, young Perseus never stumbles into Medusa. After all, why should he follow his namesake's path when the Greek world knows him as Percy?
Step not into mushroom circles, for thou will never leave.
The Lotus Casino might not be a mushroom circle, but it's most definitely of the same sort.
Destroy not what they love.
They worship nature. Setting the animals free will endear him to them even further.
Some other changes throughout the series:
- Circe doesn't turn him into a guinea pig. Instead, she politely asks then to leave. She is not about to fuck with a child of the fae
- Percy is able to navigate the Labirynth by himself. He's used to confusing spaces after all.
- Adding on - he's able to sense Pan as well, to an extent.
- Luke learns the consequences of telling someone his full name. He doesn't die before his time, but he's forced to deal with some nasty curses.
- Poseidon is much more distant with him. This Percy isn't as obviously his son - hell, he could mistake the boy for a child of Demeter.
- On the other hand, I think some of his godly siblings might be more willing to have a relationship. This Percy isn't Poseidon's little demigod soldier-prince. I'm thinking specifically of Triton, who wouldn't see Percy as a weak child or threat to his heirship and Kymolopeia who'd be happy to have another chaotic disappointment child in the family.
- Because of his relationship with Hecate's kids, he remains closer to cabin 11 as a whole, including many of the unclaimed. I believe this would make Kronos' army smaller. Also, he'd be much more vocal about the lack of cabins issue earlier bc it directly affects his friends.
- I think he'd find Grover earlier when the satyr falls asleep.
- Because he doesn't meet Medusa, the gorgons don't chase him in SoN. Instead, I think he'd spend more time with Lupa cause they'd vibe.
- Also, amnesiac Percy would be a MENACE. There's this guy with unpenetrable skin, water powers and a bunch of creepy not-exactly-humans in his wake. You ask him about the shadows following him? 'Idk, they always been there. They feel safe, yk'
They do not feel safe. The opposite, actually. They keep asking you about your name, or for you to dance with them, or offer you food. Percy spritzes them with water whenever they do that.
- Esoteric besties Hazel and Percy
- Gaea is able to tempt him to switch sides a lot more. Of course, he doesn't do that, but still. He'd have a harder time. I think the fae wouldn't side with Gaea cuz then humanity would die and they'd loose their playthings, but they wouldn't directly oppose her either.
- Minor inconvenient curses on Octavian who?
- Reyna and Hylla are both more wary and respectful towards him. He doesn't destroy their home in this version, but this is someone even Circe was afraid of.
- Him and Jason fighting? Ehhh. Piper manages to stop them before anything too bad happens, but Jason has absolutely horrendous luck for the next few days.
- The fae would wage genuine war after he falls into Tartarus. Just sayin.
- Following that, I think Percy'd have a much worse time down there. In this world he'd grow to rely of nature as much as on water. But on the other hand, the Arai probably wouldn't attack him/affect him less. Also, Nyx would probably like him.
- Percy would absolutely fix the Oracle of Dodona before it becomes a problem. That's his creepy forest thankyouverymuch.
Silas - Latin origins, meaning: of the forest. I came up with this as his second name for my Marmosis and Marianna au (it's a family name type thing. Sally's sister is called Lucy, Lucy's daughter Celeste, and Percy's deadname was Cecilia. They like their S and L soudns.) It fit here too, so. Perseus Silas.
Don’t assume malice. Assume ignorance. Life is easier, the world is kinder, and you can educate. Actual malice is pretty rare, I find.
Always remember Hanlon’s Razor–”Never assume malice when incompetence will suffice as an explanation.”
That’s said, never forget Fred Clark’s Law, either: “Sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice.” There’s a certain point at which ignorance becomes malice–at which there is simply no way to become that ignorant except deliberately and maliciously.
med people are so annoying "This family's 8 year old child who was about to go through a major surgery and kept crying that she was hungry so they pitied her and gave her food, she then had a heart attack in the surgery. They're so stupid 😒" girl they didn't know that could happen or why it happens. it takes so little time to explain to them that will happen instead of telling them "no food" with no explanation 10 times
"Before surgery, your body’s reflexes that protect your airway are relaxed by anesthesia. If there’s food or liquid in your stomach, it will near certainly come back up and go into your lungs, which can cause choking, a severe lung / heart infection or even a heart attack. That’s called aspiration, and it is life-threatening. It's hard, but it's only a single day to prevent near certain death. Not eating or drinking beforehand massively lowers the risk and helps prevent these life threatening situations under anesthesia." <- TIP: patients have brains which allows them to receive information just like you
I have four kids. I’ve had one or another of them need some kind of surgical procedure that requires anesthesia four or five times over the past 15 years.
This Tumblr post is the first time someone has explained to me *why* I couldn’t feed them before those instances.
I’m not stupid. I understood that just fine. Hell, my kids would have understood that just fine. But no one bothered to tell us.
i did know this before having kids (i have six). we have a kid that's needed multiple procedures requiring anesthesia. and every single time, i am asked multiple times if i'm sure he was not given any food or water after a certain point.
every single time i have had to say, "i understand that if he had food or water, he could aspirate it into his lungs under anesthesia. i am not lying to you." THEN someone would make a little note and i would stop being repeatedly asked.
not a single time was that risk explained to me. the only reason it came up was because i already knew. i still don't understand why it isn't standard pre-op counseling or pre-op check information, when me as a parent acknowledging the actual risk also put THE MEDICAL STAFF at ease because i conveyed that i had informed understanding as reason to not lie about giving my kid food.
"maybe some people will get nervous and refuse surgery" okay so they need more counseling about risks and anxiety, not less information in a way that actually does endanger their child or themselves!

I saw a post saying that Boromir looked too scruffy in FotR for a Captain of Gondor, and I tried to move on, but I’m hyperfixating. Has anyone ever solo backpacked? I have. By the end, not only did I look like shit, but by day two I was talking to myself. On another occasion I did fourteen days’ backcountry as the lone woman in a group of twelve men, no showers, no deodorant, and brother, by the end of that we were all EXTREMELY feral. You think we looked like heirs to the throne of anywhere? We were thirteen wolverines in ripstop.
My boy Boromir? Spent FOUR MONTHS in the wilderness! Alone! No roads! High floods! His horse died! I’m amazed he showed up to Imladris wearing clothes, let alone with a decent haircut. I’m fully convinced that he left Gondor looking like Richard Sharpe being presented to the Prince Regent in 1813
*electric guitar riff*
And then rocked up to Imladris a hundred ten days later like
Some people have been wondering about the raccoon. Listen. Listennn. Don't ask about the raccoon.
But does the racoon survive the Uruk-Hai? Does he curl up on Aragorn's head, or does he go straight to Faramir? Does he bite Denethor?
My friend. My colleague. My brother my captain my king. I too have been pondering this question, and in my mind there can be only one ultimate outcome.
A few months later
All hail the High Warden of Gondor.
Epilogue: It ADORES Faramir.
Every time I see this post I’m obligated to reblog and make it your problem too!
Percy Jackson as a deity of free will.
(I'm reading Descendants of Olympus by CaffeinatedFlumadiddle on ao3 (part 2 of Son of Sea Foam) and I am obsessed with the concept of free will. So. Heavily inspired.)
Sally Jackson was a demigod. The daughter of the Roman Libertas, goddess of freedom. She's a minor goddess. Sally deals with the occasional monster but she manages by herself just fine. She never integrates into the godly world and as such never uses her power.
Sally Jackson is safe.
Perseus Silas Jackson is not.
He inherits power from his mother. And this boy, the Fates know, will not remain complacent, unlike Sally. His father's genes will not allow him to be so.
This boy can change things.
So they start sending him visions. Of the future, of Halcyon Green and all the other cursed prophets, of Oedipus and all those who tried outrunning their fate. They teach him what the future is meant to look like, and hope the threats are enough for him to allow it.
They are not.
It starts when he sees the Minotaur kill Sally. He knows the price he might face for this, but isn't it worth trying? He can deal with being punished if it saves her.
He runs away at seven and stumbles into the Labyrinth. A place that doesn't make sense, designed to make people go insane. But Perseus Jackson is used to a world that doesn't make sense. To living in two times at once. To silent rules of the adult world that he doesn't comprehend just yet.
Childrens' mind have a unique ability to adapt. And so, young Perseus doesn't just survive. He thrives.
He learns how to not just react to the changes of the Labirynth but control them, recognise them, use them. He learns to navigate and use this breathing, malicious thing.
He learns the different aspects of his powers. Poseidon is said to have built the gates of Tartarus and helped make the impenetrable walls of Troy. Poseidon is the Earthshaker. Perseus might be his son, not that he knows it, but he does not belong to the see.
He makes the Labirynth into more than a trap and prison, he makes it his home.
Of course, he leaves it on occasion. To steal food, to see sunlight, to outrun some particularly dangerous monster.
He's ten, when he stumbles into the wolf's den.
Jason Grace is nine.
Two boys raised by danger. They fight, at first, and when they're both too injured to continue they will laugh, covered in blood and become brothers.
One will become the hero of New Rome. The other, his silent shadow. Percival Jackson, as he will introduce himself, to keep his two worlds separate (he might only be part of one, for now, but he knows it will not remain that way) doesn't stay at Camp Jupiter. He knows he doesn't completely belong there.
Poseison's children, the cyclops, are good at forgery. Who's to say his mortal children aren't either? Jason is the first who is given a bracelet by young Percy, but he is far from the last.
But Percival Jackson will be known and recognise by these people regardless. The Legacy of Libertas, who fought like a son of Mars. The green-eyed brother of Lupa's wolf. Later, the closest advisor of both their Praetors and the Augur.
The second time Perseus intervenes with the Fates' plan is after Luke steals the bolt. He had seen this coming, but he wanted to see this play out in reality, not just in his visions. Which is how he finds himself in the Lotus Casino, watching a son of Hermes, a daughter of Athena and a satyr.
He looks like Jason.
And Percy will be damned if he doesn't try to save him.
Luke wakes up to the voice of his dead best friend coming from a kid who looks almost exactly like her. A kid who looks him in the eyes and forces him to understand what exactly he's doing wrong.
Luke doesn't walk away with any love for the gods. He'll never get that back. But he does gain understanding. He learns to hate Kronos more than his father.
That is the day Perseus Silas is introduced to the other side of his world.
From that day on, the world changes.
Perseus returns to the Lotus Casino and emerges with two children. He tells them about the Great Prophecy, their father and gives them choices.
Nico di Angelo chooses safety. Percival makes him the son of Pluto and joins Jason Grace in the 5th cohort.
Bianca di Angelo chooses freedom. Perseus gets her a place at a school he knows Grover will get stationed at soon. She stays there, waiting. One day she'll become a hunter.
Percival sneaks into the Underworld. There are many entrances within the Labirynth, not that anyone really knows. He leaves with yet another sister. She stays in the Labirynth for the most part, as neither Percival nor her want to risk the Fates' wrath for speeding up her revival.
Reyna and Hylla will escape Circe's island before its destroyed, forewarned by a boy whose name the first will only learn after arriving at Camp Jupiter.
Polyphemus never dies. The demigods sent on the quest are to scared to risk Poseidon's wrath. It took Odysseus ten years to get home after blinding him, what would happen to them?
Thalia comes back to life gasping on air, greeted by a kid who looked like her. He tells her about the Great Prophecy, why her father chose to turn her into a tree instead of actually saving her. He tells her about her options.
Thalia chooses freedom as well.
Perseus isn't actually there, when Thalia, Luke and Annabeth go get Bianca. He's in the Labirynth, trying to keep Clarisse alive and from running into Hazel.
During this time, when out to get food, Hazel runs into a girl with red hair and poisonous green eyes.
"You're not meant to be alive." She will say, not understanding the things she sees yet, not understanding who's voice she's talking with.
"No. And you're not meant to know that."
The moment Zöe first meets Perseus is in the Junkyard. The new huntress, Bianca, took something despite being warned not to. As the girl goes to sacrifice herself, she's pushed out of the way by another figure.
They move fast, and Zöe is unsure where they came from. One second they weren't there, then, Bianca was saved, then, Talos was falling and they were shrugging of a shock of electricity that should've killed them.
(Jason Grace is not always capable of controlling his powers during fights. Percival has learnt to roll with it.)
She sees Bianca hand Perseus, as she will learn his name is, a figurine. Telling him to pass it on to 'him'. As she does so, Zöe will see the bracelet on her arm.
A bracelet made with copper wire and faux pearls. The same bracelet Thalia, the daughter of Zeus, wears.
Perseus never meets Rachel in the dam, as she's with Hazel in the Labirynth.
Zöe still dies. Some deaths, even Percy is unable to stop. Not yet, at least, not with how undiscovered his power is.
Annabeth falls into the Labirynth with Luke, next summer, and in this world neither had ever known there was an entrance to it at Camp before. Coincidentally, they stumble into an injured Perseus, who had ran into Kronos' army.
"They're escalating." He'll tell them later, voice cracking. "They're turning my home into a weapon."
Four questers enture down below. They have far less trouble navigating it, with Perseus there.
They still fail to get the string from Daedalus.
The Hunters join them for the battle, and its Bianca who kills Daedalus. However, the Labirynth doesn't crumble. Its ownership falls to Percy.
Neither Perseus nor Luke ever bathe in the Styx. The former is too Roman to do so, the latter simply doesn't have a reason to.
Kronos' army is far smaller in this version of events. Still, the demigods and hunters have trouble holding back, especially since no gods come to help them, despite not having to deal with Typhon.
Still, they hold out by themselves. They have Perseus, who has foreseen large parts of the war. They have Bianca di Angelo who inherited enormous amounts of power from her father. They have Thalia, who is a brilliant leader and a nuisance in her own right. They have so many others.
Kronos loses. He's killed by Luke, who sacrifices himself in the end.
Kronos dies on Percy's 16 birthday. No one knows that fact, and the Great Prophecy is assumed to be in regards to a different conflict.
The Campers aren't happy with their gods. They had to fight Kronos by themselves. This is a wrong that will never quiet be righted.
Rebellion slowly builds throughout Camp Half-blood during the next few months.
And then.
Something shifts.
Three demigods stumble into Camp. A son of Hephaestus. A daughter of Aphrodite. A son of... Zeus?
Jason, he introduces himself, Jason Grace. That's one of the only two things he can remember. The other is the face of a young boy with dark hair and dark eyes.
Jason Grace has blond hair, blue eyes and a scar on his lip. Jason Grace carries himself like a leader.
Jason Grace is their chance at revenge against the Gods.
Jason Grace might not fight like Luke Castellan did, not controlled and practiced but untamable and furious, but that's just for the better.
-
The hunters are anxious. Their Lady is stuck on Olympus after it was locked down. And now this.
Their Lieutenant, Thalia, was missing. They still had her right hand, Bianca, but something was very, very wrong.
Then one day, they stumble into a hurt girl with dark curls and golden eyes.
"I think it was Hazel." She'll say when asked her name. "I don't- I don't remember anything but her face."
"Whose face?"
"I don't know. But she had red hair and poisonous eyes."
Hazel has a bracelet made of copper and pearls on her wrist.
Hazel might not be good at archery, but she can do so many other things. The earth responds to her in the way Bianca has seen it respond to Percy. She creates intricate illusions, more than that, she changed the universe to trick monsters.
Bianca can't help but wonder if Hazel was Perseus' biological half-sister.
-
Camp Jupiter is missing their praetor. Nico di Angelo has been running himself ragged, trying to control Octavian, figuring out why nothing quiet stays dead, finding his brother and dealing with the pressure Camp was putting on his shoulders.
Somehow being Jason and Percival's younger brother meant that they expected him to lead alongside Reyna when the two were gone.
He missed Jason. He missed Percival, but he understood that he had other responsibilities as well. Most of all, he missed Bianca.
And then, yet another variable.
A girl with electric blue eyes like Jason's and a face that looked like his, like Percival's.
She said her name was Thalia. That was one of the two things she remembered.
The other?
A face of a girl with dark hair in two braids and dark eyes.
Thalia, as she had introduced herself, was wearing a bracelet made of copper and pearls.
Something in Nico wondered. He had found a sibling outside of Bianca when they were separated. Could it be that Thalia was his sister's?
He didn't have a lot of time to wonder. Free Death first. Convince Octavian that no, this isn't a sign from the gods that you should usurp power, Percival will not be happy with you if you do. Prepare. Something is clearly happening and it might just mean another war.
Thalia doesn't fight like him, or Jason or Percival. She doesn't fight like a wild thing, desperate to survive. (He knows he doesn't exactly fight like that either. He wasn't raised by danger the way these two were. But they were the ones who taught him to fight, and that will make its impact.)
Instead, she fights... She fights like she's constantly expecting someone to be there, to aid here. Like she's long since forgotten what it's like to be alone. She fights well though, shooting arrows laced with lightning, twirling with a sword elegantly like the wind.
She becomes praetor. Nico isn't even surprised, just relieved.
Everything is fine, until another girl appears. She has furiously red hair and poisonous green eyes like Octavian's.
"Where," she'll demand to know. "the fuck is Hazel?"
That is the moment Nico realises this is far more complicated than he expected.
-
It's only months later, when the two Camps and Hunters manage to resolve this. Bianca and Nico manage to reunite after years, as do Thalia and Jason. It's only then, when they all talk, do they realise the following:
they had all thought Percy was busy with one of the other groups.
No one has heard from their brother since then.

Meanwhile, the Fates have finally punished the boy who broke their plans.

A boy stumbles through hell alone. On the upside, he had many names. Down here, he has none.
A boy stumbles through hell, with only one thought on his mind.
The copper and pearl bracelet on his wrist.
You have been sentenced to death in a magical court. The court allows all prisoners to pick how they die and they will carry it out immediately. You have it all figured out until the prisoner before you picks old age and is instantly transformed into a dying old man. Your turn approaches.
I think I’d have minded less if I’d committed a truly heinous crime. Something that warranted death. Or even if I was the kind of person who would enjoy flinging a last defiance at my execution.
It was all just a show, anyway. They did it every year. They brought out a selection of criminals, and the Sorcerer who ruled us showed his power by bringing about their deaths by magic. Just to show, every year, what happened to anyone who crossed him.
There was a time, probably, when the people he executed really were rebels or assassins. In latter days he had to take what the dungeons offered. I was dragged up in chains between a pickpocket, sobbing in terror, and a man who’d killed another man in a brawl. There were few criminals of any note, by then. So instead of choosing the wickedest criminals, they chose based on appearance. The man who’d been in the brawl had a face like a clenched fist, and looked like a ruffian. The pickpocket, aging and with hands beginning to tremble, was a different kind of example. As was I.
“There aren’t many pretty ones, this year,” the man who chose me had said, examining me. “But this one will do. Not young, but not old, a woman, well-favoured enough for the gallows… what was her crime?”
The warder shrugged. “She tried to kill one of the sheriffs.”
The man looked down at me and I shrugged. “I hit him with a washing stick, because he tried to extort money from me, and he was a baby about it.” I refused to treat this as anything but pathetic, even after my sentencing. “I didn’t even break any bones.”
“Treason, then,” the man said, nodding. “Attacking the servants of the law. That will look well on the list. Send her.”
I had been debating ever since what to choose. Something quick? Something painless? I considered demanding that I suffer the attack I supposedly made on the sheriff, but then I realized the Sorcerer would only give me what the man had said I was going to do, and that was not a pleasant way to die. I had all but decided on something swift and relatively painless. Beheading with the sharpest of blades sounded good. It would be quick.

Y'all for real please do these. Even if you're certain your posture doesn't suck. One day you will wake up with impinged shoulder pain like I did and let me tell you it fucking HURTS. Do these exercises even just once a week and it will make such a difference. Especially my fellow creatives out there, stop shrimping over your work and go do these right now. RIGHT NOW.

One thing I will always appreciate Fullmetal Alchemist for is the fact that they let Roy Mustang be complicit in genocide.
Mustang is an Atoner figure. Something that plagues Atoner figures is when writers are too precious about the characters we're meant to like to actually let them be guilty of something serious.
The Atoner might be trying to make amends for their involvement in the Great '87 Hotel Massacre, and then three seasons in you find out what happened. And it's like, "I drove a taxi to the hotel, and the KILLER was in it! I ferried the killer to the hotel! That makes me responsible, and now I must atone for being nearby while the killings took place! And also vanquish the real killer who is the villain for this season."
Or maybe the Atoner did do the killings but they were under mind control the whole time and would never, ever have done it in their right mind.
But FMA said no. Mustang, Hawkeye, Hughes, even Armstrong to an extent though he suffered a breakdown and fled during it. They did that shit. They followed their orders and they did that shit. And it haunts them.
Roy did that shit. And his atonement, his grand ambition, is to see everyone responsible for that shit brought to justice for their crimes. Including himself.
That is how you write an atonement plot.

Lovely to see we have spaces where you can gain access to so much literature!
MCU but just the superhero community being horrified and confused by how vigilantes operate. Explained by Spider-Man who’s been doing this shit since he was 14.
The Avengers need to team up with vigilantes, after the Sokoiva accord’s drama they try to work with smaller hero’s for PR and to understand street level culture. They of course ask the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man since he knows Iron Man’s and seems talkative enough in addition to knowing everyone.
Spider-Man is a high-schooler with criminal connections, radioactive DNA and a mild concussion. he had no fucking idea why the Avengers are talking to him. He only helped Iron Man to get him off his ass so he wouldn’t snitch to his aunt.
Spider-Man has no jurisdiction, Spider-Man does not give a fuck who has jurisdiction. But also you need to respect the jurisdiction. There are levels to this shit.
Spider-Man is a well known New York vigilante. There’s no official qualifications to be one and nobody ever officially certifies you. You just do what you want to do and you know you’ve made it when you start getting a designated press company’s to slander you’re name or when you’re enemies start to get elaborate theme’s. There should be forums and community who monitor vigilante activity, maybe they have little markers for potential long term vigilantes like the one year mark or surviving your first alien invasion but otherwise it alls very arbitrary. Regardless it’s obvious Spider-Man is legit and not going anywhere.
Spider-Man explains that he operates in Queens, but Manhattan is free game. Technically he’s a New York vigilant so he’s not really bound to any one specific borough. But like if anyone asks for him he’s in Queens that’s his turf. You gotta respect the turf. Again there are levels to this shit. Nobody fucking respects the turf.
He argues that, no he’s not being weird. That’s how vigilantes operate they don’t do well in groups and close proximity. The back bone of vigilante culture is you gotta be able to handle your shit. The only way you become a vigilante is by living long enough and pissing enough people off to be considered one. The requirement isn’t having superpowers or being strong or lethal , it’s literally just getting back up after you get laid out.
The Avengers are a little confused but can’t disagree since they don’t know how they work. They are used to the structure of SHEILD missions. They ask who’s in charge
Spider-Man looks offended at that question. Nobody’s in charge, there’s no offical rankings. Everyone just does their own thing and unless you’re pissing off other people there’s no reason to try and extent authority. None of the vigilantes respect authority, all vigilantes are assholes none of them have authority or any sense of self preservation. If you’re lucky you won’t interact with another vigilante, unfortunately all vigilantes are connected through a string of cruel fate to accidentally meet. Vigilante’s fall into two categories of fucking assholes or little shits, regardless they tend to be pretty decent people.
This Is all just one giant pissing contest of who can get their goals completed while staying out of jail and being somewhat alive. You don’t have authority, you will eventually piss off another vigilante and this will lead to mutual respect if you both make it out alive with your goals somewhat accomplished. You might hate eachother or become best buddies or both simultaneously but competence is the determining factor.
Spider-Man explains Harlem is for Luke Cage but he’s not really a hero. Yes he knows Luke is called Harlem’s hero but Luke has an identity thing going on okay. It’s not polite to pressure enhanced people into taking the hero mantle. He’s like a Good Samaritan/vigilante/ hero but don’t pry. Depending on what stage of the identity conflict he’s on he will accept the term hero or beat you for saying that.
Chinatown is for Danny Rand, He has a secret identity but it’s really bad secret like literally everyone knows it. No he’s not a vigilante he’s got monk things going on and a fist that glows but don’t bring it up in-front of people it was a whole thing last time. He does martial art or whatever and he’s super rich you’ll know it’s him because he can’t control his volume and we just recently got him to start wearing shoes.
Hell’s Kitchen is for Daredevil, Yes Spider-Man knows his secret identity but he’s not gonna tell you seriously don’t ask him? It’s so rude to snitch on people where’s you’r sense of cape community? Secret identity shenanigans are the founding pillars of vigilantism? Look Daredevil takes weird breaks okay so just don’t send him spiraling he has a guilt complex thing and he bites so just don’t piss him off. His default setting is angry omnipotent asshole. Yes daredevil is strangely nice to Spider-Man but this is an outlier not the status quo. Don’t talk shit about him he’ll find out and also he thrives on chaos he’s surprisingly willing to do stupid shit with you if you ask nicely.
Also Jessica Jones technically inhabits Hell’s Kitchen but she’s not really about that hero life she’s a private investigator it’s different. Like she’ll help people but very begrudgingly and often while drunk but just ignore her for the most part unless you have something she’ll want in exchange. You’ve gotta get on her good side but that’s not something you can force all vigilante friendships are avoidant truma bonds thy occur when you have to kill dinosaurs together.
Also vigilantes don’t do friends. Except for Spider-Man he has a shit ton of vigaintes friends. Friendship in the vigilante community happens through osmosis of whatever toxic fumes you’re being exposed to in the sewers.
Yes all of the mentioned people know each other but it’s different. Look no they’re not in cahoots okay you need to understand they know each other and they aren’t enemy’s but they also aren’t really friends but they trust each other but also they dont want to work together at all. Their a lot of very complex dynamics at play that rely on the mutual understanding of how mentally unhinged everyone in the vigainte community can be.
Spider-Man explains you can’t go into Hell’s Kitchen, you’ll piss off Daredevil. It’s just like common courtesy, okay you can’t fuck around in another vigilantes territory. No it’s not specifically assigned to any vigilante but like you just need to know who protects what. Nobody tells you about this stuff but one day you’ll wander into a borough at 2AM and get a baton to the temple as an introduction. If you’re quips are funny enough and and you’re heart is pure you might be allowed back inside.
Yes Daredevil knows Spider-Man was fighting Kingpin in Hell’s Kitchen last week that’s different. No trust him, nobody likes Fisk that’s fair game you can fight Fisk anywhere. Also Spider-Man got ran over like four times with a tank when you get injured enough it’s like a pass to enter other vigilantes spaces.
Spider-Man should be exasperated explaining that no you don’t understand it was a Midday unplanned fight with kingpin where he was really injured Daredevil won’t care it’s different.
Also the dumpsters are free rein. You can pass out in any alleyway or dumpster you want it’s a god given right. All vigilantes, anti-hero’s, superhero’s and capes are entitled to bleeding out in a back alleyways. Disgusting blood soaked pavement is the foundation of this community.
There’s also anti-hero’s like The Punisher. Spider-Man thinks he’s a criminally insane public threat who needs psychological help but he’s able to handle himself and Spiderman doesn’t want a bullet in his side so they stay out of each others ways. There’s also mercenary’s like Deadpool but you can’t really befriend them? They do their thing and you can try to stop it from happening but antagonizing them unprovoked isn’t the best idea.
This isn’t to say he lets them do whatever because he has a moral obligation to protect but he doesn’t actively go out to hunt the person does this make sense?
The avengers think Spider-Man is spouting shit because nothing he says is coherent or makes sense but he says it with such conviction.
