Never gonna forgive Disney for making people think Alice had a good time at that tea party
Does this look like the face of a child who is having a good time?
Alice at that party
The thing about a good character flaw is that it has to be the same thing as their greatest strength just turned up too high. the person who loves deeply and therefore controls. the person who sees everything and therefore trusts nothing. the person who is so loyal they lose themselves. there are no clean villains and no clean heroes and once you understand that in fiction you can't unsee it in people. everyone is just their best quality at the wrong volume.

I am sooooo tired of seeing "actually this post is about women not trans men" slapped on to feminist posts and then when that is questioned or challenged, the response is "this is for women specifically because of the societal expectations placed on them."
I'm going to hold your hand as I say this to you. Those same expectations are placed on trans men. Trans men are also expected to be mothers and wives. Trans men also face misogyny and are harmed by it, in the same ways cisgender women are.
It reads like a lot of people think of trans men as Cis Dudes With Pussies when the vast majority of trans men are living (or have lived) many of the same experiences as cis women, and should be included in these conversations.
For example, if the conversation is about how young girls are brought up to believe the must be wives and mothers β many (most, even) trans men grew up with those same expectations! It is equally liberating for young trans men to realize they don't have to be mothers and wives as it is for cis women, with the only difference potentially being an additional gender affirming layer.
also like. in best faith i know that a lot of this reaction comes from people being annoyed at the (perceived) implication that to not want to be a wife or do xyz thing expected of women by patriarchy, means one wants to be a man, the (perceived) assumption that women do naturally want to do those things and the only reason someone would not is because they aren't a woman.
but this is why i need everyone to be more aware of anti-transmasculinity. because this is the foundational presumption cis feminists have been making about trans men & transmascs since they heard of the concept. trans men&mascs, as trans people, have been excluded from feminism since feminism began, and unfortunately that includes the majority of transfeminism as well. it shouldn't be shocking that on a site with a large population of trans people, a lot of trans people relate to posts about misogyny, and a lot of trans people who grew up being classed as girls and women and having those expectations forced onto them are trans men&mascs. and i'm sure a lot of them also do not think that to be a woman is to want to fulfill patriarchal stereotypes, but rather they are desperate to actually have their lived experiences as trans men affected profoundly by the patriarchal role of daughterwifemother to be recognized and verbalized.
"transmasculinity is misogynistic because it implies that women who want to escape misogyny aren't really women" is as old a transphobic feminist argument as "trans women make a mockery of womanhood and contribute to patriarchal stereotypes." a lot of folks on here are far better at spotting versions of the latter than they are the former.
me liking a mutualβs post that directly contradicts an opinion i posted earlier in the day
why did none of you fake bitches tell me about this?! π
Itβs called The Kaleidoscope, itβs a novel, and the thing Iβm personally most excited about is that itβs actually written by Jo Martin!!!!
Fans with more knowledge will have to chime in but I donβt know if weβve ever had one of the Doctors write a full novel before, and the writing of Dr Who (both for the show itself and for extended universe material) has been so dominated by writers who are white men, so itβs incredibly exciting to have a writer come from a different demographic. Black fans - and Ncuti Gatwa too - have been saying for years that we need more diverse storytellers, not just to combat racism but for the sake of the art itself!
Itβs coming out 3 September!
When memories lie, the truth can be fatal.
In the aftermath of an improbable mission, the Fugitive Doctor and Martha realise that something is interfering with their minds. Something that doesnβt want to be found.
Their investigation leads to a curious artefact in the British Museum: an apparently medieval toy known as the Kaleidoscope. But the object refuses to stay in one place, one time β or one identity. And when the Doctor is repeatedly mistaken for someone sheβs never met, fragments of unfamiliar memories begin to surface.
Across the Earth, a hidden pattern emerges; evidence of a secret that someone has gone to extraordinary lengths to conceal. As ancient enemies close in and innocent lives are put at risk, the Doctor learns the hard way that some truths were buried for a reasonβ¦
A key instalment of the Doctor Who transmedia event Circuit Breaker, this novel is written by the Fugitive Doctor herself, Jo Martin β and also features Martha Jones (as played by Freema Agyeman) together with the Unified Intelligence Taskforce, or UNIT.

The Fugitive Doctor wields a previously-eschewed sonic screwdriver as she teams up with Martha Jones in a new Doctor Who novel penned by Jo
Thereβs also this really wonderful interview with Jo Martin where you can find out more about the premise. She talks about what it was like to be cast and how her son is a huge Whovian who helped give her pointers while writing the book. And this lovely bit:
I really did grow up with Doctor Who; I used to dress up my cousins in tin foil β they had to be the Daleks! And I would fashion some kind of costume for myself and play the Doctor. And theyβd be like, βOkay, now itβs my turn to be the Doctor. You have to be a Dalek.β And Iβd always say, βNah, nah, nah! I want to be the Doctor.β And theyβd be like, βYou canβt be a doctor, youβre a girl.β
Back then, the show had a long tradition of white males in that role, so it really was wonderful that we got Jodie. But, as you can imagine, I never saw myself represented β and to be seen is so important. So to be standing on set the day when I had to say, βHello, Iβm the Doctorβ¦β Well. I mean, we had to retake that a few times because Iβd get really choked upβ¦ I could see that little girl in me.
But now it is β and, of course, the fans have always been very inclusive. So to have that acknowledgment from Brazil to America, from France to Australia β from Aboriginal girls sending me a message β means a lot. Itβs great to be able to cosplay as someone without anyone look being able to look at them and say, βWell, you canβt be wearing that.β You know? The girls can dress up as Jodie or anybody else; they can be who they like. And then, as a Black child, you can look on me and go, βYou know what? I could do this.β Because Doctor Who is for everyone.
The thing Iβm probably most excited about is that it sounds like the Fugitive Doctor being Black isnβt just ignored, there is some cultural diversity there or touching on how being Black might shape her experiences - and we are going to that written BY someone who is actually Black, which was one of the things I loved so much about The Storyteller and the Engine.
So we lean into a bit of the Fugitive Doctorβs heritage; the fact that sheβs a Black woman. Weβve gone into what happened when she left Gallifrey β weβve also gone to Jamdown, my dear! So weβre in Jamaica in some of the story.

get you a man who can do both

Preferably when she wasnβt wearing the retainer.
cats always step precisely on your most sensitive areas when theyre crawling on you lovingly for cuddles. bladder dick ovaries boobs stomach bruise it doesnt matter. they have homing devices on their paws for the exact area youβre most tender at the moment and they put their full weight into that step. and sometimes they might keep their stance midstride so theyre just standing there forever forcing you to endure the pain. because they are simply too cute to get mad at

This is very true and a great post.
But low key makes me think about how people with adhd have been raised their whole lives to value a day based on what they accomplished vs what they experienced
I think your point is excellent. But also consider:
That list might say things like βPaint a picture. Go birdwatching. Finish that great novel I started reading. Call my grandma. Learn to bake a cake. Visit my sister. Play piano.β
For me at least, the good/fun things are harder without meds too. I can have the best intentions, but following through is hard.
This addition is so important.
Yeah. I once made a post in which I complained about being frustrated at my brain, and one of the things I said was:
βI should not be struggling this much to do things that I want to do and have the time, space, energy, and skills to do. Actually, when I list it all out like that, I should not be struggling at all to do those kinds of tasks.β
And I STILL somehow got a rant about capitalism in the comments. And I do understand where itβs coming from, yes, but goddamn did I not make myself clear? Did I not say Things That I Want To Do???
