I'm not allowed to play paladin with one of my playgroups anymore, because the last time I did, one of the rogues in my party decided kill a townsperson in front of me "just to see what would happen," and the moment she did I used a smite evil and killed her instantly. Everyone else (except the DM) thought it was a dick move that I basically forced her to roll an entirely new character after one night.
When we were children, my sister had private music lessons at her violin teacher’s house. I only visited there once, but I still remember that afternoon. The teacher had an artificial pond in her yard, a large beautiful thing with lily pads and plant life. And in the pond, there were goldfish. I had never seen such enormous goldfish.
I spent several minutes just staring at them (and trying to convince them to bite my fingers.) When my sister’s violin lesson ended, her teacher came out to the yard and explained that these goldfish were the same small creatures that were often unfortunately sold in plastic bags at state fairs. They were only about two inches long apiece, when she bought them and put them in the new, empty pond. In essence, they were like every goldfish I had seen before, but they had been given a much larger, much richer environment in which to flourish. As a result, they had grown into some of the most remarkable, vibrant creatures my twelve-year-old self had ever met with. All because of a pond.
Funny what lessons children remember. My sister doesn’t play the violin anymore, but that was the first time I caught a glimpse of the overwhelming extent to which it matters, the way the world treats us.
The whole "Elvis sighting" thing is hilarious because, like, the first documented career Elvis impersonators began working over twenty years before the guy even died. I wonder why a public figure who has a whole industry of people who look and sound like him would generate an unusual number of posthumous sightings? It Is A Mystery.

man y’all remember when the avengers movie came out and everyone headcanoned that all the avengers would live together in the tower and had all these cute posts about various fun ways they could interact and then the movies literally never had any of them even be friends
I want to state, for the record, that “all the avengers would live together in the tower” wasn’t collective headcanon, it was canon. The very last scene of Avengers (2012), the one they left us on, is Tony redesigning the tower, designing a living area for each Avenger. That was, canonically, what was supposed to happen, in canon, and they just changed their minds and decided to… not. For whatever goldarn reason.
Also it was canon for literal decades in the comics. First it was Avengers Mansion which was Tony’s Manhattan family home and then Avengers Tower when Tony built it. At one point Avengers Mansion couldn’t get their trash carried away because in order to operate in the US they had to be an embassy and NYC trash carriers don’t service embassies.
those people are wearing button-downs and suit jackets at their place of employment, after a work party. (Dr. Cho and Maria Hill are both still there.) they’re not depicted as enemies, sure, but this is still pretty firmly in the realm of “coworkers.”
Tony and Bruce canonically hang out. Natasha and Clint are best friends. Steve and Sam are close enough friends that it leads to a comically awkward dynamic that Sam and Bucky don’t get along easily. Steve and Natasha literally have a whole arc of building trust between them and becoming close friends in Winter Soldier and it’s a relationship the movies continue to treat as important to them. If She-Hulk can be considered canon, Steve once told Bruce about the time he lost his virginity over drinks. A lot of the Avengers canonically do live together at the compound for a while and Tony has a moment in CW griping about who’s been pouring coffee grounds down the garbage disposal.
Like yeah, I think some relationships were under-served in the movies, Tony and Steve particularly, but you don’t have to literally live with your co-workers for them to also be friends. If anything what ppl seem to think is missing in these relationships just indicates they’re workaholics who have little in the way of personal lives, not that they aren’t friends.
There’s definitely friendships within the group, but to make Civil War hit you where it hurts, the strongest friendship is supposed to be Steve and Tony, and the writers’ general lack of interest in making those two in particular be well-established high-trust friends with each other just makes it painfully obvious that everyone in the group is friends with one other person in the group at a time, not friends with The Group.
Natasha has the most friendships here, but for the most part the people she’s friends with don’t seem to consider her a bridge to befriending the others. Natasha is friendly with Bruce and Natasha is friends with Clint and Natasha is friends with Steve, but Bruce & Clint, Clint & Steve, and Steve & Bruce don’t even have enough of a dynamic for me to remember what it would be. Clint is friends with Natasha and as far as I can remember that’s the end of his list. Bruce and Tony hang out, sure, but Iron Man 3 makes it a huge joke that Bruce got so bored listening to Tony talk about his PTSD adventures that he fell asleep partway through and Tony is so self-absorbed he didn’t notice no one was listening to him. Thor isn’t really friends with any of them. Sam is only in this movie for 34 seconds. Rhodey doesn’t break 3 minutes.
The chance that the movies have to establish the proof of these people genuinely relying on each other in an interpersonal sense are largely sacrificed for jokes or dramatic tension. To my memory it’s pretty much just the Winter Soldier cast with each other, or Natasha serving as an emotional lodestone for one of the other male characters. The Winter Soldier cast isn’t even really special in that everybody in the Avengers is close with the casts of their own movies and moderately friendly coworkers with everybody else. It’s just that there are more Avengers interacting per film in The Winter Soldier than there were in the other Avenger solo films out at the time.
It gets worse the more comics-canon Avengers get introduced. Wasp and Ant-Man are close with… each other. Vision and Scarlet Witch are close with… each other. Black Panther and Doctor Strange are in the lineup without anyone from their own movies and accordingly they aren’t visibly close with anyone else considered an Avenger. Carol Danvers doesn’t even get a proper Monica Rambeau to be close with until after Avengers: Endgame. And don’t even get me started on Peter Parker!
It’s not surprising that these plot-packed crossover movies struggle to give us the same sense of downtime as the comics, but there’s a lot more they could’ve been doing with their introductions and callbacks demonstrate that these people are close with each other and trust each other, not that they merely can joke around amiably enough while sharing the same adventure.
The thing is Tony and Steve aren’t friends, at any point. The first two Avengers films have conflicts on whether these two can even work together at all. That character dynamic in itself isn’t bad, in fact it had plenty of interesting character focus because different outlooks and morals the two characters and how they go about things in the story.
The problems comes from how the plot ends up focusing so much on the conflict between the character and not much on how the characters friendships pull the group together. Tony and Steve never become friends, they just put their issues aside for the time being. Again, not in itself bad thing, but because so much focus is on these struggling to work together at all mean there little time to show the power of friendship.
Bruce decides to leave earth at the end AoU and how that affects the group as whole is not a discussion that ever had, and for a teammate and friend to banish himself from the planet not to be more of note makes it seem like the Avengers aren’t much as friend as they are a workforce where members can be swapped and filled in.
In Endgame the question is asks if Natasha had any family and nobody knows. We from Hawkeye that Clint know, but nobody else did, Nat has the most connections within the group and nobody bothered to actually get to know her. There are characters that are friendly, even caring and protective, but there is clearly is such a distance between there characters. None of them really know, that weren’t already friends before the Avengers, because the focus is always conflict or the adventure no one has the time to get close.
Well yes, that’s my point. Civil War was a huge mess in the comics, but the core idea was interesting because Tony and Steve were actually partners in leading the Avengers and had been for ages. The movies just kind of took that “big two” foundation for granted, so there’s this weird empty space in the center of the Avengers where the Steve & Tony winghead-shellhead dynamic is supposed to go.

& then there is the song "Woman to Woman" which is set when Albert is aging and has been outed, and is now on trial. the cis nurse who has been targeting him, and iirc outed him, comes to speak to him in private. she's trying to convince him to admit his male identity is a mental illness and willingly detransition, threatening that if he doesn't he will be institutionalized. she projects her own experiences under patriarchy onto him, insisting that if she wasn't allowed to become a doctor, he shouldn't be allowed to get away with (what she sees as) trying to escape the burden of womanhood. which to me anyone interested in cis woman/trans man dynamics should watch that scene/song.

From my experience working in both academic and public libraries, many libraries are use it or lose it funding-- I have to say this because a lot of patrons feel guilty for how much they use the library and how often they're using it funny enough, but the worst thing you can do for libraries is not try out new features and not use what's already given to you as much as possible.
The numbers that come as a result of your patronage are how most libraries justify their continued existence in times of financial hardship, which sucks but, go check out some magazines on Libby!
