Not to be a feminist man hater on main but like
Nothing infuriates me more than when a famous man is accused of say, domestic abuse or supporting conversion camps and is immediately and aggressively defended by his coworkers who consistently spew the same rhetoric like “The man I see every day is such a kind and good person” etc.
As though men who are violent towards women don’t actively curate a persona of innocence and non-violence. As though they aren’t master manipulators in the first place to hide their actions and have a ready supply at hand of “character witnesses”. As though there isn’t a huge dissertation on this exact behavior (Why Does He Do That? By Lundy Bancroft)
As though homophobic people don’t do the exact same thing to hide their abhorrent, “unpopular” views from the public eye while in secret actively work towards destroying the lives of the queer community.
Anyone whose reaction to hearing that someone they know has done something horrific and cruel is to ignore evidence and jump to defend them blindly is, without question, just as awful as the person being accused and instrumental in contributing to the problem at large.
I don’t have a point to this other than to express my immense frustration with people like C*ris P*att and J*hnny D*pp, but also maybe keep these instances in mind if and when you hear things like this about people in your own life. You have absolutely no idea what a person is like behind closed doors when they believe no one is watching, no matter how kind and pleasant they may appear to you.
