idk who needs to hear this but it’s healthier for you to just accept that you’re gonna be kinda fat than it is to live the rest of your life miserably trying to monitor yourself to maintain a skinny weight your body doesn’t want to hold onto
“nothing tastes as good as skinny feels” what feels even better is living a life where your self-worth isn’t entirely dependent on your thinness and you don’t constantly monitor and shame yourself. attaching the tweet that was worth at least five hours of therapy for me
my roommates car is named barff. it was originally bought from a dealership called garff, but then she tinkered with the g on the license plate thing so it looks like a b and now the car is just called barff.
my wife once asked our roomate where she was parked in a group chat. but she messed up the word "parked" and instead spelled it as "garked". and then me and my roommate just started referring to parking as garking because its just really fun to give my wife shit. its just part of the professional little brother playbook.
but also, at some point it stopped being ironic and we just started calling parking garking.
then today me and my wife were looking out the window and we saw our roommate struggling to do a three point turn into a parking space. and as fun as it is to give my wife shit its also really fun to give our roommate shit. so we ran outside and we ran around her car while chanting GARK THE BARFF. GARK THE BARFF. GARK THE BARFF. and then she did, eventually, gark the barff. theres no moral to this its just a surreal part of my life that i really enjoy. maybe tease people more? find your barff and gark it and never ever stop?

the soft animal of my body wants a spliff and four pints of cider
soft animal of my body is up for a kebab
was this post cowritten by liam gallagher
yeah it was a monumental collaborative project. I realised I could never get 24 words out on my own but the concept was so special to me that I chose to take a gamble on it. I reached out to his representation and after about eight months of negotiation over rights, fees etc we reached an agreement where he would develop nine words in-studio (first instance of 'of', 'four or five pints of cider' which was later edited down to what you see in the release, second instance of 'my', and 'kebab'). I drafted the rest of the post with support and oversight from his publicity agent, and the post was soft launched as a limited series of placards in Brixton late last year. due to the lukewarm reception, there was talk of pulling the tumblr release altogether, but fortunately we were able to settle on a route forward whereby I bought out full rights to the seven words authored by mr gallagher alongside limited rights of reproduction to allow me to publish the work under my own blog (with allowance for third party reblogs in perpetuity etc). I'll probably never pull off anything of this scope again, and it's a shame it never quite got off the ground the way we hoped, but it was an interesting experience and one I'll always value as part of my artistic development.
AAA video game publisher voice: "Look. The goose layed a golden egg, and that's nice! Everyone loved that egg. But keeping the golden goose means paying for bird feed and I don't want to, so I killed the goose."
#‘that goose keeps laying golden eggs. that’s stagnation. I’m going to kill it and go look for a goose that lays diamond eggs’#‘that goose normally lays golden eggs but this time it laid a silver egg. I’m going to kill it because even though I can still make good#money with that it’s not as good as a golden egg’#‘that golden egg laying goose only lays an egg once a day instead of constantly shitting them out. I don’t care that golden eggs take time#if they’re not constant the goose is worthless to me’

Bitches!!! Several co-workers and I all just left a very unhealthy job (at least 5 of us all left lol). I sent your article ‘The Resignation Checklist’ around to everyone before we did. This is a message my co-worker sent me- she went over the checklist and realized she had PTO that wouldn’t have paid out and used it before she left!!! I used the checklist myself and before I left: quit at the beginning of the month to get an extra month of insurance, am going for a physical and dental cleaning, went and got an eye exam and new glasses through my vision insurance, made sure my 401k was vested, and redeemed some company rewards points for a gift card! I especially would never have thought about new glasses without your list and am so excited for them. Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you and that your article was a hit with my work friends- thank you!!! <3
OH HONEY!!!! Damn this brings tears to our eyes. We're so thrilled for you and your coworkers!!! It's a huge honor to know that we helped you guys out in your quitting journey.

Growing pains
If you spend your formative years being relentlessly bullied by your family for being "too sensitive" (read: having the normal emotions of a child), one thing you might start to do is repress every emotion you possibly can and excise the rest.
Only, those excised emotions aren't gone, they just get bundled into your subconscious mind. They live just beneath the surface of you, waiting for something (a trigger) to cause enough of a crack for them to pour out.
You can be consciously aware that the emotions you're feeling are unreasonable in response to the actual trigger. But leaning into that ("Stop being ridiculous, you're overreacting!") only leads to more repression, more buildup, more explosions.
This is why I'm repeating over and over to myself today, "You are not too sensitive, you are just having emotions. You are allowed to feel emotions."
Stuff I needed to hear way back when, I can tell myself now. The trick is getting myself to believe it.
Understated and very funny issue the Catholic Church faces as time goes on: modern saints aren't gonna be depicted in robes or anything like that, they're just gonna be wearing t-shirts
The contemporary fit kinda clashes with the broader church aesthetic
Secondary problem: new saints means it's easier to traffic relics, cause the Church will prioritise parts of their body, meaning if you move fast you can throw things like their smartphone on ebay for a quick buck
I don't know much about the Catholic church, but reading about this kid is kind of wild. He tragically died of Leukemia aged 15, and the reason that he's now been canonized as a saint is, on two separate occasions long after his death, the families of sick people have prayed to him for intercession, and they were miraculously healed. Fair enough, I guess. But in terms of what he was actually able to do in his short life, apart from being very religiously active, wise and discerning beyond his years, one thing I found was that he designed a couple of websites for the church, and as a result has since been dubbed the 'Saint of the Internet' and 'God's Influencer', and is often depicted with a laptop. And I know it was because of the posthumous 'miracles', but it's fun to imagine a scenario where the Pope made a teenage kid into a Saint for doing some light coding, because nobody at the Vatican was tech-savvy enough to know how to do it.

your strengths are harder to see than your weaknesses because the problems you're good at solving don't appear as problems, because you're so good at handling them before they become problems... unlike the relatively rare problem that becomes a crisis, which demands undue attention. it's sort of like a reverse survivorship bias. the problems that become noticed as problems, the moments where you notice your capacity has a gap, are only the ones that aren't cut off at the pass by your strength and capability, before they become problems. so if all you focus on is problems then all you'll see is your weaknesses. which isn't accurate

This is actually a valid concern lol
In a fascinating turn of events, my Most Pragmatic Sibling, reader of exclusively nonfiction, interested only in historical northeastern politics, fish recipes, and his dog, who in his bid to "opt out of frivolous nonsense" has worn only the same 3 pairs of identical cargo shorts and 5 free promotional tee-shirts for the last nine years, has recently come to understand that fashion, trends, and fads, are- as difficult as it is to grasp- direct expressions of a given population's political and socioeconomic environment
I, local family's resident literature fine arts and weird dead animals dork, have been having ENDLESS fun at his expense on this
(We both enjoy writing)
We have, since this monumental epiphany, essentially had the same conversation nine times in a row now, and I am genuinely never going to get sick of it. I hope he keeps texting me questions forever
Him: Wait but THIS stupid ugly thing was super impractical, so how come everybody wanted to wear it all of a sudden
Me: Well I'd have to do some research to be sure but if it didn't have a practical purpose and it wasn't a spiritual thing then my best guess is that it was either a novelty that had suddenly been introduced and found appealing, or it came to represent an important facet of the culture that suddenly gained relevance
Him: So why did it stop
Me: Fashions swing from one extreme to the other. People seek out what is desirable and unique, which is almost always unique because it's not produced or available very much. If enough people jump onto that bandwagon, demand goes up, so whoever can invent a way to get more or make more will make a killing. Once this innovation meets demand, the rhing will become commonplace, and no longer new or exciting. If it happens to be perfectly suited to a particular niche or image then it will become timeless as long as that niche or image is relevant, but the majority will move in the opposite direction once they hit the greatest possible extreme.
Him: That's stupid
Me: War is stupid. Ask grandma why she doesn't throw out old nylons and keeps turning old rags into bath mats
Him: (nodding sagely)
it’s never a normal temperature anymore it’s always some fucking bullshit
I need you young people to know it was almost never this hot when I was a child. Millennials and Gen Xers are all nostalgic and excited about summer because it was about ten to twenty degrees cooler to experience it back then!
I cannot express to you how FAST it has gone. I grew up in a world that does not exist now. We're starting on the path to reverse it, globally. You might not know how much solar has EXPLODED in the last decade or two. It's gone from a side thing, a weirdo novelty that was just Not Viable... to whole countries investing in infrastructure. but we have to keep fighting big oil and fascism everywhere we can in order to keep on this road to a new better less scorching burning earth.
But any time you wonder wtf the weather is doing- THIS IS NOT NORMAL, NO. THIS IS NOT WHAT IT WAS EVEN TWENTY YEARS AGO.
augh
