OP’s only other post tagged #isopod is also Ligia pallasii misidentified as G. oregonense, so I am assuming that at some point they looked for “oregon isopod,” somehow came to the conclusion that the Oregon seapill must be the only marine isopod on the Oregon coast, and never looked at another picture of an isopod again. i legitimately don’t know how else you would consistently mistake Ligia for Sphaeromatidae. they’re not even in the same suborder!
This complaint refers to two old posts regarding an isopod seen at Hug Point on the Oregon coast:
Sleepy Sea Slater 2016
Sleepy Sea Slater 2017
Trying to identify this isopod through photos available online, I misidentified the Sleepy Sea Slater Ligia pallassii as the Oregon Pill Bug Gnorimosphaeroma oregonense. This was a sincere mistake made 7-8 years ago. I actually am aware that there are many different types of isopods and other crustaceans on the Oregon coast and in the surrounding waters. I am only an amateur enthusiast and always do my best to correctly identify the animals and plants I find, and in this case I was wrong, wrong, wrong. It is never my goal to contribute to the glut of misinformation on the internet, and I regret that in this case I did. Kudos to laurelnose for the correct identification, which seems so obvious now. I can't undo all the damage I've inflicted, but I will try to do better in the future.
Incidentally, if you look through the other posts on my photo blog I think you will see that I have taken pictures of a wide variety of crustaceans and other arthropods, and you may even be surprised to find some of them correctly identified.
