Meliboeus amethystinus is easily recognizable due to its striking deep blue color (hence the name), but this one had some mysterious purple hues going on. it was definitely not just iridescence, although i can attest that the sun was trying to kill us both

The holy fuck mobile just rolled into town and I’m driving????????
This jewel beetle has no common name and is pretty dang rare on iNaturalist with only 90-ish sightings. It was quite literally the most beautiful jewel beetle I’ve seen in person and it was just SITTING THERE on this fake terra cotta planter in my backyard.
I like to think the Egyptian scarab god Khepri is also the god of random beetle encounters. I was his favorite little guy today!

Trachys troglodytiformis, supersized! They're actually quite small in real life. I had to try out some of my new metallic paints (Turbo Dork has a ton of colors and even color shifting metallics!) so it was time to break into the Buprestids.
