Low Tide by James Marvin Phelps

Low Tide Cannon Beach Oregon June 2026 June brings some of the most dramatic and extreme low tides of the entire year to Cannon Beach. Thanks to the alignment of the summer solstice, this month frequently sees significant "minus tides" (or negative tides), where the water recedes well below the average low-water mark.

Sea belt Dilsea carnosa (or possibly young dulse Palmaria palmata?)
Sargassum sp. maybe? idk what the golden stuff is but it's pretty
Snakelocks anemone Anemonia viridis
Dahlia anemone Urticina felina
Rock snail Stramonita sp. (probably haemastoma)
Blue mussel Mytilus edulis
I think there are some cockles in the lower image?? (Acanthocardia sp.) I didn't notice them once while at the beach, they were very tucked away, might be any similar bivalve I have no idea. I don't think I even saw any empty shells of them so they could be something totally different like big barnacles in a row or sea squirts but they sure do look like cockles
I very much welcome any corrections or additions to this list!
My outer coast camping trip got thwarted by my back going into spasm Saturday evening, but I managed to get to the tide pools closer to home for a little bit today.
