i dont care if monday sucks... tuesday cost me sixty bucks... wednesday thursday give no fucks. it's friday im a duck
thinking about the time a former housemate said to me "hey I put these box fans in the living room because it's hot" while gesturing to the fans that I was actively sitting in front of because it was hot. and I said "okay thanks." and she kept standing there like she was waiting for something else so I said "am I blocking the airflow? do you need me to move?" and she said no I'm just letting you know they're here, in the living room, for circulation. and I said well yes, I did put that together. I am enjoying them. thank you. and she looked confused. so I asked "am I meant to do something with this information or are you just informing me?" and she said no I'm letting you know they're here because It's Hot In Here. she seemed a bit aggravated, and her emphasis seemed deliberate.
it took me asking three more times before she finally told me she wanted me to leave the fans where they are instead of moving them to my room or something. and I said oh! I had no intention of doing so but thank you for letting me know what the expectation is.
about a month later she brought up that conversation as the moment it actually clicked for her that I Am Autistic And Will Not Magically Intuit The Unspoken Request You Didn't Ask Me.
I have observed enough allistic communication to know that generally, if somebody points something out to you that you can already see or are already clearly interacting with, they are making an indirect request. but as I don't know what the request is, the only way forward is for me to guess (and likely get it wrong), or prompt the allistic to tell me clearly what they need.
however, allistics don't realize they do this, so asking them to say the unspoken surprises and confuses them. this is not their fault. allistics can be quite emotionally fragile and perceive directness as confrontation, so they habitually rely on indirect speech and coded language to preserve others' feelings. this is why they may find it difficult to be direct, even when asked. I have found that with enough gentle encouragement and reassurance that they are actually helping you, you too can achieve successful communication with your allistic friend or loved one. :)

Reading fiona from shrek as an allegory for being a trans guy is great like society desperately wants you to remain a pretty little princess until it becomes so internalised that you yourself believe that transitioning will turn you into this violent scary monster and once you do finally transition and actually become happy and content in who you are there’ll still be people in your life who react like you’ve murdered their daughter and turned her into an ugly, disgusting ogre and will stop at nothing to convince you to detransition again “for your own good” and if you say no they’ll take it upon themselves to try to fix you anyway because they can’t comprehend the idea of offering you a shred of bodily autonomy.
This does also mean tht Shrek is a trans man btw. To me.
this post is a day old and it’s already reached twitter like okay wow this one REALLY resonated huh 😭

shotbynora_ i owe you my life
play fighting is so fucking hot, oh no I got pinned down by you on the bed we better not fuck or anything that would be crazy
Im not the best with words but one of your post made me have a thought about the prevalant and transphobic idea trans people afab are transitioning due to internalized misogyny and the reality is quite a few of us will hyperfeminize ourselves (myself included at one point) due to misogyny (and transphobia)
Oh 100% — Broadly speaking it's a genuinely very common trans experience to push oneself into hyper-performing the gender presentation associated with one's AGAB when closeted or struggling with gender things.
I say broadly, because I've known many trans people across the spectrum of identity (myself included) who've done this at one point or another in their lives. I've known trans women who pushed themselves into hyper masculinity and given themselves eating disorders trying to build masculine muscle mass before coming out. I've known trans men who spent years wearing make up and shaving their bodies every single day, even on days where they wouldn't go out, before coming out. I've known nonbinary people who realized they were only keeping their facial hair routine because it made them feel like they had control over their appearance, despite it being a huge source of dysphoria for them, and other nonbinary people who would go full glam every time they set foot out of the house, only to later realize they were doing it because they felt so much pressure to be feminine in their environment that they were genuinely afraid of what would happen if they didn't.
I bring that up not to shift the focus, but highlight that we're not alone in that experience among other trans people.
You are absolutely right that there is a huge contradiction in the narratives about trans people assigned female transitioning due to internalized misogyny when we, in contrast, often actually hyperfeminize ourselves under misogynist pressure in order to avoid scrutiny, harassment, assault, etc.
While it's certainly not an uncommon experience by any means (it's one I share and just about every trans masc I know IRL shares too), it's not one I see talked about or written about very publicly. It's really disheartening because none of us are alone in it, but often times we think we are due to the lack of open conversations about the subject.
The fact that tech companies are allowed to act the way they do is so baffling compared to literally any other business model ever. Like, imagine if you went to the grocery store but every time you reached for an item, an employee rushed out of nowhere and snapped a rat trap on your fingers. And when you got to the counter, they proudly informed you that for just $12.99 a month, you too could get the rat trap-free grocery store experience. Shouldn't I have that anyway? Or they just looked at you like you had three heads and told you to shop at another store if you didn't like the rat traps breaking your fingers. Am I crazy?
And then you ask a buddy to go with you to the store with the sole purpose of simply blocking this guy. And the store then tries to lock the door in your face, claiming that this violates their company policy and that preventing it counts as stealing.
Been working on a lot of cool stuff for Pinkshift lately, so throwback to the poster series I did for them back in 2021.

I wanna say farm life sims are ridiculous, but honestly if a butch girl who ran a farm talked to me every day and gave me flowers twice a week I’d be sucking her cock by summer
'rocky learns to swear in english' is great and all but have we considered the equally hilarious alternative: rocky makes grace a little harmonica so he can use tone indicators in eridian, does not realize how terrible of a mistake this is until it's too late. grace catches onto tone indicators FAST and he is DEVASTATING with their application. grace does not use eridian swears but rocky gets to hear "are we choosing kind words" and "I'm not mad I'm just disappointed" in eridian roughly thirty times per day
