Steph just increased her odds of inheriting given that Bruce probably wouldn’t feel that Tim needs another fortune/Tim wouldn’t want to inherit from him.

I haven’t read much of Cass’ comics but I feel like she’s the only Batkid (besides Stephanie) that wouldn’t have qualms about inheriting from Bruce. Dick & Jason have complicate relationships with both Bruce and money, while Tim & Damian are already heirs to other estates

i think about bruce wayne as a gothic character a lot. a city doomed to repeat its every injustice. corrupt to its core and never wanting to heal. the only way to rid himself of his torment is to kill it but in doing so he'd kill himself. is one man's life and morals worth it. yes, life is sacred. no, the needs of the few do not outweigh the needs of the many. death is a constant. he cannot instigate it. i happens anyway. why should he be the one to kill himself to do so? he's the only one who can. except his son does it and thrives. the horror comes from the fact that bruce can only rid himself of the bad by becoming it himself, but he refuses. is that refusal worth it.

This is a great take. I feel like the gothic horror of Batman gets lost in favor of Gotham’s gothic architectural aesthetic. But the city itself plays out the tragedy of death over and over.

Bruce is also stuck in the alley, never moving on from the tragedy of his parents’ deaths. So much of his and his childrens’ stories come back to death and their inability to control who dies unless they choose to take it into their own hands. But another core aspect of Bruce’s character is his undying optimism.

Yes, Bruce is a gothic character, but he’s also endlessly hopeful that by helping the few he can improve the lives of the whole. He goes out of his way to provide the support people need, regardless and especially when they are causing others harm. He tries to reform his rogues because he needs to believe that it’s possible. Because if he has to give into the horror, he needs to believe that one day he will be able to give it up. He has become vengeance to the point where it’s impossible for him to understand how to live without it, which is also a part of the horror. How can he live without the darkness, even if he doesn’t give into it?
