🎀 How do you decide when something is done?

It sounds boring but it's mostly "did it do what I wanted it to do? Okay great." As far as edit/polish, usually by the time I send it to a beta I've got it where I want it or I have a specific issue I want feedback on, so once they've given their feedback I just incorporate it and go--my perfectionism can be silenced by my desire to work on other things, ha.

🎶 Do you write with music? does the music you’re listening to influence your writing?

Honestly not too often! Occasionally I'll have a soundtrack or instrumental on, but a lot of the time I find it distracting. However I do a lot of brainstorming to music so if I'm in the car or shower thinking about fic I will usually have something on, and it's usually the vibe I'm trying for. A looot of Hozier, Florence + the Machine, Iron & Wine, the Oh Hellos, Snow Patrol, Dan Fogelberg.

I am going to list THREE favorite lines, instead, because that is something I am more capable of than saying something else nice about my writing 😂 This is the shape of Duncan’s reassurances. The concept of Baelor's hair growing back in over his Ashford wound in Targaryen silvergold just really gets me!! I wrote that line and went "oh fuck. Why didn't I think of this at any point before now to use for my huge ass Baelor lives WIP" 😂 and then @themirokai pointed it out in betaing and that was incredibly affirming 🥰

There are several stand-out lines to me in this little fic, but this one I enjoy because the repetition/symmetry in the first two phrases pleases me: Caspian is thinking of two people that he loves and yet they are distinct and the love he bears each of them is distinct, and the fulfillment in/with one doesn't negate the loss and pain of the other. -

His hands find her waist, and Padme closes her eyes, and for a moment as the stars come out, the galaxy is only as large as the two of them, the house behind them, and the dunes they’ll cross in the morning to pick up the twins. -Let My Second Love Be Kind

I answered this a couple times already but by golly I'm gonna keep going. I don't always write chronologically, so getting to a point where I can connect two existing pieces/parts is REALLY fun.

I usually have a solid idea because I usually start with a specific story I want to tell / point I want to get to, but what that looks like can definitely vary/change along the way. Although I just started something that I genuinely don't have a solid ending for and that is TERRIFYING haha.

📚 Do you ever read similar works while writing, or do you intentionally not read them?

I guess it depends on the definition of "similar" haha. I definitely read stuff in the same fandom while I'm writing, but I usually don't do fics that (from the summary/tags) are super similar conceptually / thematically within the same pairing... unless they're from an author that I already love/trust and then I'm pretty weak-willed about resisting 😂

When I actually get into a groove writing and things starting to come together 😭 nothing like it.
