Word of Honour spoilers up to and including episode 18
It's been like *checks notes, squints* over a year since I posted the 2nd part. Life has been busy 😅. Ok so this is the 3rd post that I am making to speak about the things that I noticed while rewatching Word of Honour. This post is definitely going to be longer than the previous one! Here goes:
As I had previously mentioned, on this watch through - I have seriously started to pay attention to the secondary characters and how they influence the story. Like I had completely forgotten the plot line where Liu Qingqiao had met with the head of the Beggars sect.
Ye Baiyi's introduction to Gao Chong and Shen Shen was as hilarious to watch as last time but now in hindsight - both of them had really gone and called him a youngster 🤣🤣🤣.
I've noticed more clues to the fact that Gao Chong and Gao Xiaolian are decent people earlier than on my first watch.
I had noticed this in previous episodes too but Wen Kexing really does use Zhou Zishu like a wallet basically all the time. Again another fandom meme that I had forgotten was so on point with cannon! xD
The retaliating attack of the Yue Yang sect on the ghosts brought up some conflicting thoughts and feelings in me. Like on one hand - the ghosts were out of line for including innocent men in their games during the ghost marriage (the cheater however got what he deserved, in my opinion). On the other hand, the Yue Yang sect mostly killed a bunch of handmaidens who were more than likely innocents themselves.
During this watch, I've started paying more attention to what Gu Xiang was doing and when she found the survivors of the attack, she was distraught. When she went to Wen Kexing then - it was to seek comfort and advice and help from him in regard to this issue but Kexing himself was distraught over the news that his beloved's days are numbered and so he couldn't fully hear her or reassure her. This also explained why she felt so ill after that night, as it was mentioned later in the episode. I remember being so confused why we later see Gu Xiang being sick on my first watch 😅.
I believe that I have mentioned this in my previous 2 posts about WoH but I am once again going to state it - Shen Shen is an impulsive idiot and I have no idea how he became his sect's leader. His actions do at times make me laugh but most of the time I want to bang my head against the table because of his impulsivity.
Speaking of impulsivity - both Wen Kexing and the main antagonist of the show constantly use the heroes' (from the sects) honour and tendancy to rush to action before stopping and asking for context questions - to play them like fiddles. It's quite amusing to watch on the rewatch now that I know what to expect of the main plot points xD.
Ok so Wen Kexing definitely did not know the complete plan that the Scorpions and the Changing Ghost had put in place. Also in hindsight, the main antagonist was absolutely brilliant with how he controlled the Scorpion sect and on the rewatch I can clearly see the string of manipulation that went on during the 1st 5 Lake Alliance conference. It's so cool to see what some characters know and more importantly what they don't and how that impacts their actions in the present moment.
God, I loved watching Zhou Zishu and Wen Kexing observing the conference and arguing over what they were witnessing like a married couple watching the TV! XD
Zhou Zishu actually figured out (or at least suggested correctly) that Zhao Jing was the orchestrator of all these events a bit sooner that I had remembered him having figured it out! I don't think I fully caught WK and ZZ's conversation about it in the mouth of that cave on my first watch. 😅
