i think MORE characters should be rape survivors. i think more characters should be csa survivors. i think more characters should be dv survivors. i think strong and noble and attractive and charming and brilliant characters with indomitable spirits should be survivors. i think the most powerful characters in the world should be survivors. i think characters who are cultural icons should be survivors. i think victims and survivors should see ourselves in the most admirable and beloved characters around! i think we should be protagonists!!!
#βitβs so unnecessaryβ . okay . god yea this one drives me CRAZY. people will yap all day long about how it's "unnecessary" to make a character a survivor like do you think it was necessary for any of us to be abused or raped irl? was it narratively essential? did it teach the audience an important lesson? why do we, who have to justify our experiences and existences and reactions all the time in real life, also have to justify why we should exist in fiction? people act so repulsed by the thought of us. i've really fully and truly had enough of that. there is nothing so uniquely disgusting or repulsive or unspeakable about our victimhood or our survival that justifies this obsession with keeping the reality of our existence hidden
"oh but talking about it can be triggering for victims :(((" you know what else is triggering? living in a world that insists that we cannot be open and honest about what happened to us. maybe if we had, oh, i don't know, prominent examples in our cultural stories of people who are victims and are competent and strong it might be easier (for everyone, not just victims) to have the discussions we actually need to have about our trauma.

Once when I was in undergrad, someone described something as βproblematicβ in class and our professor was like, βThatβs cool, but βproblematicβ doesnβt really mean anything. It means that the thing youβre describing has a problem, and in and of itself thatβs not bad. Art, especially, should always have problems, or else itβs not interesting and not art, either. It sounds like youβre trying to say that this is bad, but you donβt want to say βbad.β Is that right?β
So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the βbadβ thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, βIβm uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.β
Once we stopped calling things βproblematicβ and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, βthatβs racistβ or βthatβs misogynisticβ or βew capitalism grossβ out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, βUhhh... Iβm not sure whatβs so bad?β and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.
Anyway. Whenever I see the word problematic, I canβt help but think of this professor being like, βGood starting point, now letβs get specific.β I think when we have to commit to saying βthatβs ___β it requires a lot more careful thought about the truth and impact and complexities of whatever weβre claiming. Sometimes there really is some bullshit afoot, and also sometimes itβs art, and it should be full of problems, because thatβs what art is.
itβs a shame more vampire media doesnβt pull from vampire bat behavior because theyβre such sweeties. they can only survive their incredibly specialized diet because bats will share blood with colony members that didnβt find a meal! thereβs evidence that suggests the donors sometimes initiate this behavior themselves by approaching hungry bats! the colonies are mostly harems of females with a few males but theyβve been observed letting unrelated males in when it gets cold so they can all stay warm! cute little social critters!
@yupekosi your tags have created such a beautiful world
[Timkon lovesquare au] okay hereβs the part I never posted here! This was a two part comic with the first one exploring superboy going for more traditional superman look (sort of based on an mlb episode where chat noir changes his whole suit and demeanor) after getting shunned by the public and media while this part was about Timβs belief in him inspiring him to just be superboy
Iβve honestly been so busy with two jobs and having like no free time that I barely draw but I want to add more comics to this au π£π

itβs sooo funny when rude customers encounter employees who can deny them service for the first time.
i was working at a little cafe where I could deny service over bad behavior, harassment etc. & mask mandates had just ended a week before & already people were being weird about me still wearing mineβan N95, the kind shaped kinda like a duckbill.
so this man walked in, looked at me sooo scathingly, laughed at me, and said βdamn. never known a woman to chooseβ¦practicality over looks.β
And I just said, βoh. you can go, youβre not getting a drink.β And he said, βwhat???β
I said, βsir, you just walked in at 6 am & called women impractical and me ugly in one sentence.β
And he was so astonished he didnβt even argue he just turned around and left πππ» it was like he suddenly became self aware
One summer I was running ferry rides across a lake so people could see the waterfalls without walking 6 miles when a guy snapped my bra strap as he was boarding the boat. So i immediately threw him off, he started yelling for my manager, my boss cheerfully informed him that, yeah, sheβs the captain of the boat and she can kick off anyone she wants. He goes to storm off, looks expectantly at his girlfriend, and she just goes, βWell, IβM not walking six miles, Michael! Iβll meet you back at the car!β and sits right back down!!!!
The expression on his face when he was told that he couldnβt get on the boat, then immediately told that his girlfriend was ditching him? PRICELESS. he just blinked at her and then stormed off like a child. I gave her a free hat and was like maybe rethink this relationshipβ¦β¦.
i once had this fucker come up to order a beer. while i pour it he shows me the wanky fucking chemical structure tattoo on his arm and heβs like βhey. you know what this isβ i was like βnah sorryβ (never cared abt chemistry in school, plus having to look at a some randoβs pretentious tattoo gives me the douche chills). he decides to respond with βheh. you must not read many booksβ
i immediately stop pouring his beer. i reply: βheh. you must not want this beer.β thirsty boy immediately starts groveling like a worm βplease please no i do want the beer im sorry im sorryβ believe me when i say it was one of the most pathetic things ive ever witnessed
gotta love people immediately backpedaling when they realise that there are Consequences To Being Mean
I genuinely believe that part of why it has become so normalized to be openly callous and evil in politics is that customer service culture has trained affluent people that they can treat everyone they consider beneath them however they want and still be treated kindly.

i like when eridians describe grace in other-worldly, incorporeal, eldritch ways. that he's beautiful and terrifying at the same time. a horror you can't look away from because you don't want to miss a thing.
you can never get a clear listen to him. his primary sense node is covered in "hair" and the part that isn't is hidden by two crystals that refract sound waves in a pleasing but disorienting way. he covers his body in billowy cloth at all times. not snug and sensible and unobstructive like eridian coverings, but loose and layered, draped and flowing.
the most clear part of him are his internal organs. because yes, the alien's carapace isn't sound-proof. his single heart beats insistingly in his core, his lungs exchanging gas constantly, his long digestive tract always bubbling and contracting. his thorax is packed impossibly tight and it's all moving and singing.
and it shouldn't be possible, with how fragile he is, for that internal pressure to maintain. how does the thin membrane of his external organ (another horror that sends eridians reeling) keep it all contained? his "skin" is so easily pierced, cut, bruised, burnt, how does he not split open under his own mass?
when savior rocky first arrived home and described the environmental needs of his alien, the scientists thought he'd made a mistake in his frantic panic to get everything out. it isn't possible this being lives at such low atmospheric pressure, at half the gravity, and in a gas that's nearly double the weight of ammonia. in a gas so dangerous, so caustic. and if it does then how is it obligately terrestrial like rocky claims? shouldn't it fly or float instead? (and then to see it in the water, learning that it can float or sink at will.)
and this alien has come bearing gifts that will not only save your species but launch it into impossible heights of technological and intellectual advancement. he has discovered the solution to astrophage and bred it to thrive on threeworld and translated his instructions into eridian. he has given your people the complete sum of his people's knowledge, advanced in ways the eridians can't believe and behind in ways that seem ludicrous. and he has given his life for your people to have these things.
he knows how your solar system was formed. he knows how the universe started.
his name means beautiful and generous and relieving.
the eridians experiencing cosmic bliss.
be not afraid.
