I am so tired of short-attention-span, trim-the-fat culture. All writing advice these days is for how to write like Chuck Palahniuk. "Cut 'think', cut 'feel', cut 'wonder' - only action, only pushing forward, show and move and move and move." What if I could emulate this style, and still don't want to? What if I want to write like Henry James, with three paragraphs of introspective musings between each dialogue line? The music advice is, "make it shortform, make it Tik-Tok compatible, make it punchy, hit the refrain as soon as possible." What if I want that 10-minute prog rock piece? What if I want that symphony? What if I want it slow and luxurious and lazy? Movies. Series. Poetry. Bodies. Everything is "trimmed trimmed trimmed trimmed, stripped bare, you have three seconds to win me over, make it airport chic." I don't want to win you over, then, I guess. I want the fat left it. I want the pleasure and the indolence and the indulgence. Fuck this art-advice that's always "your art needs Ozempic."

I agree and I extend this to tabletop games. I want more crunchy games. Note that I didn't say clunky games. Very tired of the automatic assumption of "light" and "simple" as "better" (also "new" ... ). Light games can be terrible in the same way bigger, busier games can. I'm paying for something to think about, interface with. Something to do, to work with, chew on, absorb, modify, play with. Sometimes you want salad, and sometimes you want steak. Well, maybe you're vegetarian, but: your preferences aren't "objectively right". No one's are.

A writer wakes up in the middle of the night gripped, possessed. The idea haunts them, they have to write it down. True creativity is a bolt from the blue, we're the conduit. No creative person will ever wake up in the night thinking, "I just thought of a really good prompt."

Creativity is what makes us human, and it is a near approach to what we can only call divinity. Say I'm being poetic, fine, truths can be poetic truths and still be true. To carve out that portion of our souls and give it to a machine is not just laziness, it's blasphemy, against ourselves.

It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! That’s a big deal! I’ve never thought about it before but now that I have, it’s ridiculous to me that that’s not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why don’t we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!
