Started watching the Witch Hat Atelier anime and *holy hecking peak*
I donât usually put a lot of effort into finding manga to read but I kinda had to start reading wha XD
(Funny thing is I decided to start watching wha because of a video I saw somewhere where a guy was analyzing a piece of bread from the show to figure out what kind of bread it was, and I decided that that is the kind of weird fandom Iâd *love* to be in XD)

I haven't written fanfic in *forever* it feels like--
Mostly because my cat chomped through the screen on my old laptop and shattered it, and I couldn't get it repaired since *apparently* places stop repairing computer stuff within a couple years of it being out and that one was a six year old model -_-
Plus, it doesn't help that trying to use docs on tablet/mobile is just a whole other hellscape for me -_-*

Once again, another potion attempt has exploded in my face. Quite literally.Â
I thought I was getting better at this! Itâs just mixing things! It canât be that hard!
And yet, just about every time, something goes wrong. At this point, even Grim could probably make a better potion than meâŚ
âJust what do you think youâre doing, pup?!â
âEek! Umâ Nothing!â I hide my hands behind my back, as if that would help me any.Â
â...Nothing, hm?â He uses his pointer to move me aside, casting a look somewhere between disappointed and appalled at my cauldron. âWhat, pray tellâŚis this?â
âItâs an utter failure, is what it is. You are to stay after classes today for remedial lessons.â He pinches the bridge of his nose as he turns away, clearly done. âDo not be late.â

I look at the ground, frown on my face. I mean, it never feels particularly good to disappoint your teachers. Professor Crewel was absolutely disappointed in me. Quite honestly, right fully so.Â
No, I canât sit around feeling sorry for myself! All I can do is come back for remedial lessons and hope it can help me get better. Professor Crewel may be a harsh teacher, but heâs a good one. I just need to get better so I can make him proud!
With this in mind, I continue on to the rest of my classes, making sure to put my greatest effort in every one of them. After all, Professor Crewel isnât the only teacher I want to make proud.Â
I get through History of Magic, somehow. Yet another difficult class for me. After all, I donât exactly have a lot of context, seeing as Iâm not from this world. Iâve never even heard of whatever battle happened in the Kingdom of Heroes however many centuries ago it was⌠Is all that really so important?
I also get through my P.E. class, even if Iâm exhausted by the end of it. Coach Vargas really has Spartan trainingâŚ
But finally, I make it to the end of the day. Despite the headache thatâs starting to grow in my temples, I set out for the alchemy labs with determination. I will make a proper potion today, and Professor Crewel will be proud of me today!
âHey, where ya goinâ Yuu?â
I turn around to see Ace and Deuce jogging up to me from the other end of the hall, Grim taking the lead.Â
âDonât you remember? They have remedial lessons with Professor Crewel today.â
âHuh? Come on, you can just skip, right?â Ace steps up next to me, playfully nudging me with his elbow.Â
âWhat? You canât just tell them to skip!â Deuce fires back.Â
âCome on, I was kidding! You knew I was joking, right, Yuu?â
âUmmâŚâ
âBoth of you are hopelessâŚâ Ace shakes his head, pulling ahead from the rest of the group with his hands behind his head and a relaxed posture. âLet us know when youâre done, alright?â
âYeah, yeah, alright,â I chuckle back with a teasing look he clearly doesnât miss, judging by the slight bit of red on his cheeks.Â
âWeâll see you later, Yuu! Let us know if you ever wanna have a study session or something.â
âSounds good.â I give Deuce a smile as he pulls ahead along with Ace, leaving myself and Grim walking alongside each other.Â
â...So. Ya really gotta go to extra lessons with him?â
âYup. You know how bad my potion work is.â
âIt ainât that bad!â
âI blew up my potion and almost burned all my hair off today.â
â...Okay, maybe ya need a bit of work.â Grim takes a few steps ahead of me, turning back as an idea seems to strike him. âHey, I could teach ya!â
âSure,â I chuckle. âAfter my remedial lessons with Professor Crewel, though.â
âI knew ya needed me!â He gives a bright smile, tail flicking behind him in delight. âIâll meetcha back at Ramshackle then!â
âAlright, Iâll see you there, Grim.â
Soon enough, itâs just me at the door to the alchemy labs. I place my hand on the door, steeling myself for what is sure to be an intense lesson.Â
I push the door open, my eyes landing onâŚa group of other students? Oh, thatâs right! The science club meets here too, donât they? I guess Iâll have to be dealing with an audience, thenâŚ
âOh, Yuu. A nice surprise to see you,â a familiar voice calls from my right.Â
âTrey! Thatâs right, youâre in the science club, arenât you?â Iâm not sure if seeing the familiar face makes this better or worse. Though...itâs Trey. Heâs pretty reasonable, so I shouldnât have to worry about him judging me on my inevitable potion failures. ...Probably.Â
âThatâs right. You here to see someone?â
âProfessor Crewel. He called me in for some remedial lessons todayâŚâ
âAh. Good luck.â
âThatâs not very reassuring!âÂ
He laughs at my pout, giving a reassuring smile afterwards. âYouâll be fine. Just listen to what he says, and Iâm sure youâll figure it out.â
â...Thanks.â
âNo problem. Professor Crewel was setting up a cauldron over that way, since youâre looking for him. I would assume itâs for you.â
âThank you, Trey!â I give a wave, making my way over to the cauldron heâd pointed out after quickly throwing on my lab coat and goggles.Â
âOn time, I see.â Professor Crewel gives a nod, clearly having expected at least that much.Â
âYup! Came here right after classes!â
âAre you ready for your lesson?â He gives a look that says the only available answer is Yes.Â
âIâm ready!â I give a determined look, rather grateful that heâd chosen a spot a bit secluded from the science clubâs activities.Â
âGood pup. Weâll be working on the potion you botched today. Now, what ingredients go in the potion we made today?â
I think for a moment, trying to recallâŚanything, really. Was it aâŚlamp blossom? No, maybe a light blossom? No, thatâs not right eitherâŚÂ
âDo at least tell me you remember the name of the potion we madeâŚ?âÂ
âŚWell, weâre not off to a great startâŚ
âI take it by your silence that you do not remember.â And judging by his expression, he is currently regretting becoming a teacher.Â
âIâmâŚsorry, professorâŚâ I look to the ground, then continue in a mumble, â...pretty much nothing has made sense since I came to this world⌠But thatâs not an excuse! I need to learn regardless ofâŚwhether anything makesâŚsense or notâŚâ
At this, he seems to realize something. â...You have no background in magic, period.â At this realization, he seems to be rethinking some things.Â
â...No...?â
âThen that just means you need extra training.â He begins to walk off, taking the book from the table with him, soon returning with a new one, âStarting...with the basics.â He plops the seemingly almost unused book down on the table, the title reading Basics of Potionology. âYou will make the first potion listed in this book, after reading up on some basic ingredients and their uses. You have five minutes to read.â
âFive?!â Thereâs no way I can read that whole section in five minutes!
âThe clock is ticking.â
With that, Professor Crewel walks away. Likely to check on the other students in the science club.Â
And I get to work on reading the first few sections of the textbook, making sure to read carefully, but as quickly as I possibly can.Â
Soon enough, the five minutes are up. Luckily, Professor Crewel returns just as Iâm finishing up the section.Â
âYour time is up. Before we begin, test time.â He takes the book from me, setting it on the table beside us. âWhat is one use for mandrake root?â
âUmm⌠Oh! Poisons! And they grow faster with magic, right?â
â...Correct. Now, what makes a lanternblossom glow?â
âIt stores magic in its bulbs while itâs growing, and it glows when it blossoms, I think.â
âCorrect once again.â
After a few of these back and forth questions and answers, Professor Crewel finally seems ready to let me actually make something.Â
âNow, the potion youâll be making is a rather simple one. Meant to change the color of oneâs hair. You will find it on page 36.â
I flip to the page in question, looking over the potion recipe.Â
ThisâŚis a doozy. Well, the only way to get better is by doing, I guess.
I begin to reach for the first ingredient, pausing when Professor Crewel asks a question.Â
âIn your world, did you have any classes similar to alchemy or potionology?â
âHm? NotâŚreally? I mean, we had stuff like chemistry. I guess thatâs similar. Kinda.â
âHm. I see.â Without another word, Professor Crewel takes a step back, simply letting me do my own thing while he observes.Â
WellâŚI suppose it is a bit like chemistry. If I think of it like thatâŚmaybe I can at least pretend itâs a familiar subject.Â
With that new thought in mind, I set my sights back on the potion recipe, making sure to read the whole thing through.Â
What color should I change it to�
Oh! Perfect! Itâll be a bit more difficultâŚbut if I can get it right, surely Professor Crewel will be proud of me!
After some scrambling to get ingredients, I finally begin the process of making the potion. And after some close calls of almost messing it upâŚ
The potion is finally done.Â
I carefully bottle it up, placing the cork on the top and presenting it to Professor Crewel. âItâs done! And I didnât blow anything up this time!â
âIndeed. Now, are you confident in your potion this time?â He narrows his eyes at me, and my nerves rise up a slight bit.Â
Even so⌠âYes!â Kinda.Â
âVery well. After observing your brewing, I believe your potion will be effective enough. Now, would you do the honors of proving your abilities?â
I blink a couple times, not quite registering what he meant at first. âYouâŚwant me to drink it?â
âIndeed.â
After a steadying breath, and a nod to steel myself, I down the potion with my eyes squeezed shut.Â
After a moment, I open my eyes to see the slightest hint of a smirk on Professor Crewelâs face.Â
Did IâŚDid I do it?
I quickly turn to the nearest mirror, breath catching as I see my reflection.Â
âHAH! YES!â I point to the mirror with a bright smile as I see the black and white two-toned hair.Â
âI did it!â
"Now, continue this progress, and you might be able to impress me someday, pup."
