Kinda random ask.. But. Book of Mormon is coming to my city, should i go see it? Idk too much about it- i've heard some of the songs and it seems pretty funny but convince me why i should go 🙏 i'll probably steal your reasons and use them on my parents to convince them to take me too

Ok so reasons why you should go:

it’s super funny imo, if ur chill with south park humour then you should enjoy it although mum doesn’t rlly like south park humour and she still loves tbom so even if you don’t you still might enjoy it

The Australian cast is genuinely phenominal I can’t stress how good they are like the singing is incredible, their dancing is great like they’ve obviously been practising so hard and really love what they’re doing and their acting is awesome theyre (I’m sure every cast is great, I’ve only seen the Australian one so I only know ab them) 

Also this might js be bc im a lighting guy but their use of lighting is rlly cool in certain scenes and in general its rlly well utilised (no spoilers in case you do go)

The sets are incredible too I love looking at pictures of them cuz they’re just so impressive and rlly help immerse you in the world (also the cast does a great job in immersing you too)

It’s also really entertaining I never feel bored during the run time cuz it never gets slow or weak at any point, the dances are awesome, the songs are all absolute bangers (in my humble opinion) and all of the actors are incredible so none of that gets boring (or repetitive)

The choreo is amazing and there’s some really cool numbers throughout the show (like I said before, the cast are incredible dancers)

everyone I know who’s seen it LOVED IT. My family, teachers and friends all had a great time when they saw it. Like my dad doesn’t like musicals and he loved all of it and my mum who isn’t a fan of the humour loved it

Also side note, there’s A lot of pop culture references so it’s cool to pick out the ones you recognise (at least for me)

I also js wanna say it’s very clear that everyone ever involved has loved working on it, I feel like you can really tell js by how perfect everything seems to be

Yeah that’s an outline of all the reasons I love the show, if you want anymore I can probably think of more (sorry if I repeated anything I wrote this across multiple hours)

Some stuff to note

ok so there is a lot of explicit language and some dark themes, the sort of stuff you’d expect from south park (idk which songs you’ve heard so js a heads up)

There’s flashing lights n gunshots n haze/smoke (dunno if that’s important for you, I js thought id mention it. They also have warnings at the shows)

If it helps convince ur parents you can find videos of the opening number on yt so they can see what the Mormon elders are like and what the music is like

I think it runs for about 2 and 1/2 hours with a 20 min intermission

also seeing it is supporting the arts which is always nice :)

GERARD WAY AND GEOFF RICKLY REFLECT ON THE INTERTWINED HISTORY OF MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE AND THURSDAY

Gerard Way and Geoff Rickly, the former faces of My Chemical Romance and Thursday, have a lot in common. They both grew up in New Jersey. They both rose to fame through fronting game-changing bands that came up in the early 2000s. And they both broke away from those bands to pursue new avenues; Way now performs under his own name and is taking his career as a comic book artist to the next level (he made his Marvel Comics debut last year with Edge of Spider-Verse #5 last year), while Rickly is balancing his time between his current bands United Nationsand No Devotion. Last week, the pair toured the UK together with their new projects, with No Devotion supporting Gerard Way and The Hormones. The history between the pair is loaded with significance, but just to give an idea of how significant it is to other people: on the night of their London show a line of fans began to snake down the side of Brixton Academy hours before doors. Some of them actually arrived the day before and camped out overnight (on what is practically a main road, in Brixton, in near-zero degree temperatures) just to guarantee a spot at the front. Ergo, I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that some people value their music so much that they would risk actual death just to be closer to it. Luckily for me, I got to sit down with Way and Rickly (without risking much death) to discuss growing up, blowing up, and moving on from the monumental projects that launched their musical careers.
