Hiya I’m sorry if you’ve already answered a question like this but why do you think so many people like to character bash a female characters in media for “ruining their Ship”

Just asking because I’m reading a fic that’s pretty popular in my fandom & I gave it a try & I can’t stand how much the author is hating on this character??? I’m not even a fan of her but, it’s taking me out of the story, plus so many people praise this fic to the point where I can’t asked about it on the fandoms community

instead of “why”, I believe fanfic writers can write whatever they want, however they want. so if a writer hates a fictional character for whatever reason and if they want to make said character a villain in their fics then it’s well within their rights to do that. because they write for themself and their own enjoyment.

while anti censorship stance is politics, fanfiction (as in what is being written and how it’s written) is not necessarily a place for activism in my opinion. and “anti censorship” also means artists can create whatever they want, however they want. even if it’s not something you agree with.

so… can fanfic writers purposely use their own fanfics for activism? yes. but can other fanfic writers write whatever they want, however they want, for their own enjoyment? also yes.

obviously you can dislike any fic you read. but instead of asking the author why they write a certain character in a certain way, instead of criticizing something someone else do for themself, the right thing to do is to remind yourself that an author writes for themself and their own enjoyment, as their hobby, they don’t write for anybody’s approval. and you’re just privileged enough to get to read other people’s hobby for free, because they are kind enough to share their hard work with other people to read for free. if you don’t like it, quietly exit the fic and look for something else to read. or write the fic you want to read yourself.

no. proship literally just means anti censorship and anti harassment. proship does not necessarily mean liking every taboo ship. it does not necessarily mean normalizing any taboo ship.

you can be proship even if you hate every single ship that is taboo. as long as you don’t harass or shame real people over fiction, then by the definition, you are proship.

almost every person who is proship has something they dislike, hate, or even find disgusting. the point is not to normalize any of these taboo things. the point is literally to not shame, harass or censor people who enjoy the things they enjoy as long as it’s fiction and no one in real life is harmed.

so when someone who is proship finds a taboo ship they think is disgusting, they either scroll past, mute, or block the source. that’s all. they don’t harass or shame the person who enjoys it. they don’t try to normalize it. they just curate their own internet experience. scroll past, mute or block what they don’t want to see, mind their own business and let others enjoy whatever fictional things they enjoy.

changed my ask page title to “no paragraph break” in all caps, pinned a post with “no paragraph breaks when requesting a poll” and people still send me poll requests with paragraph breaks in them. at this point I might have to delete the ones with paragraph breaks because other mods are currently busy and I’m barely on browser where I can copy and paste requests with paragraph breaks so 🥲

I mean it when I say paragraph breaks are nightmares when you’re using tumblr app because tumblr won’t let you copy several paragraphs at the same time even when it’s all in the same ask. you have to copy text one paragraph at a time and unless the answer choices in a request are just yes and no, it’s a nightmare to copy one paragraph, exit tumblr app (or make a draft), paste it somewhere else, reopen tumblr app, go to inbox again, then do the same with the rest. especially when you get tons of requests with this format
