No bond stronger than a disabled girl and her disabled cat
that's a cat â ď¸
Some life advice nobody told me that Iâve slowly gathered through navigating the adult world;
If you go out to eat, tip in cash. 100% of that money goes to the server if itâs a worthwhile establishment, whereas a portion of a card tip goes to the business owners.
You donât owe your bosses anything thatâs not in your contract. They will try to get more out of you than youâre paid forâdonât give it to them. Even if they try to guilt you over it.
If you canât muster up the energy to take care of yourself, whether through work fatigue or depression, at least brush your teeth. That is the most expensive part of hygiene to fix/replace. Everything else can wait if you canât manage it at the moment.
That said, a shower is Temporary Depression Eraser. Itâs kind of incredible how well it works to help you feel better, even if itâs a lot of spoons.
Go out in the sun. Itâs so dumb and small but human minds become a very not okay place to be if you donât get your daily sunlight. Seasonally Affected Disorder is very real and stupid but itâs easily treatable. If you live in a climate without a lot of sun, they make lamps that emit the same rays to compensate.
Donât feel bad for eating bread. Carbs are important and actually encouraged as long as itâs not the only thing you eat.
Vote in your local elections. Your voice will matter way more in those than anywhere else. They donât tell you this because itâs true.
Donât put stock in any bad thoughts you have after 8-9 pm. Again, so stupid but itâs a very real thing.
Kindness goes a long, long way. Even little things like âI like your shirtâ. I promise you it makes a difference.
Eat at least one vegetable a day to keep your levels stable. The human body is a temperamental little bitch that makes everything Horrible Forever unless you eat a vegetable.
Hold landlords accountable. If youâre paying them an arm and a leg to live somewhere, they can fix your fucking boiler. Itâs part of their contract as a homeowner if theyâre renting to someone.

some of you never got your lips stuck in a gate ten days after you turned 8 and your friends all laughed and you just stood there until the fire department came and broke the lock with a crowbar and you had to spend the next six weeks in lip rehab with this kid named oscar who got stung by a bee right on the lip and you couldnât even talk to each other until the fifth week because both your lips were so swollen and when he did start speaking he just spoke polish and you only knew like three words in polish except now you know four because oscar taught you the word for lip, âustaâ
and it shows
One time I was leaving a friend's place and an older lady with basically no English came up to me and communicated that she was very cold and needed a ride. She pointed to tell me where to go.
I got there and her daughter or granddaughter came out and was like omg her phone died we were worried
And then the older lady said something and the younger lady translated.
"She knew she could trust you because you have pink hair"
I thought it was funny at the time. But when I think back on it I think she was basically saying "you had a visible sign of not vibing with the system I was afraid of"
Be weird. Be colorful. Help random people.
I hate job interviewing "why are you interested in this job" I'm literally not? I do not want to do any of this.
"what can you bring to the company?" apprx. 40 hours a week of vague attempts at labor. maybe less if you guys suck.
obviously dietary requirements aren't a joke but my grandma sometimes runs errands for her church and i asked her what she's up to today and she said extremely seriously "ive got to track down the body of the gluten free christ, julia"
this totally scans for a swear intensifier btw. what in the gluten free christ is going on here, Julia

grief is so crazy like what if i forget what her laugh sounds like. does she know i loved her. i miss her so much. i catch myself doing things she used to do. i wish i could call her. i miss her so much. i do a crossword puzzle. i cry while washing the dishes. does she know i loved her? my heart feels like a hummingbird. i miss her so much. what if i forget what her laugh sounds like. what if i forget.
i talked ab this feeling in therapy yday and my therapist asked me, âwould it really be so bad if your memories changed? if they softened and faded or looked different over time? why does that frighten you so much?â and i said, âi donât want the love to disappear.â and she looked at me for a long moment and then she said, âit wonât. it doesnât work that way. even if the memories soften or change, it doesnât mean the love does. that love keeps going backward in time, forever, because you love her still. all is not lost.â i just thought i would share that in case it resonated w anyone else too.
So! This is a perfect case study in situations where you should be wary of misinformation.
Take a moment and ask yourself, a project like this requires a lot of time, money and dedication of resources, why would scientists dedicate that time to something that could just be done by a tree?
The answer is they wouldn't. So that means this claim requires further investigation!
This project is called LIQUID 3, and it's not meant for cities with wide open spaces, it's meant for cities like Belgrade in Serbia. These cities are densely populated and heavily polluted, to the point where pollution actually chokes out current trees and makes creating green spaces difficult.
Liquid 3 was a PhD scientists answer to these problems. The microalgae tank is intended for spaces where you either:
Don't have enough space to plant full trees, or
Don't have enough time to plant trees and wait for them to grow up.
The tank is extremely efficient when you consider the amount of space needed compared to the amount of CO2 turned into oxygen. The tank can operate throughout the winter. And most importantly, it can be quickly set up in areas that desperately need relief from air pollution NOW not in 10 years when trees are done growing. Children currently suffocating on polluted air can't wait for trees to grow, they need to be taken care of now, and Liquid 3 is one of the ways to take care of them. Depending on the species of microalgea used, a number have shown a pretty amazing capacity to pull heavy metals out of the air which is something trees can get choked up by.
The tanks aren't just tanks either! Liquid 3 have solar panels placed on top, they have lighting and mobile phone charging, and they work as public benches. The designers of it want to encourage green spaces where there's room, but where there isn't room or time, Liquid 3 can step in. Realistically, this isn't a replacement for trees. It's replacing boring metal city benches with new, cooler benches that also clean the air (and have at least some heating during the winter).
Not only that, but the microalgea that grows is native to Serbia and all that microalgea has a ton of great uses! It makes for great fertilizer, compost, wastewater treatment, cleaner biofuels and even for helping create new tanks for further air purification. They only require a quick algae divide once a month, and the produced algae can be carted off to where ever it's needed. This makes them effective solutions for areas that can't sustain complex installations.
So yeah, there's actually quite a lot of places that would like these. Lots of people currently breathing in terrible quality air would much rather have their boring city benches replaced with really fucking cool algae tanks that clean the air and can be used to help create + sustain future green spaces in cities. I dunno about you, but I'd take that over a dumb metal bench any day. Put these at every bus stop and I'd be delighted.
can ppl pls reblog this version
Serbian here living in Belgrade! This is all true and I've actually seen some of these around the city a few times. They're amazing at what they do and really cool to watch up close because you can see pretty swirling inside them. It's not only functional but aesthetically pretty nice as well!
the circus is empty, all of the monkeys are here
Variation on a Tempest quote that actually describes The Tempest very well! Ariel would in fact say that!

Words that I see used incorrectly in fanfic a lot
Disclaimer: language is always changing. Words are made up. You can do whatever you want forever. HOWEVER if you want to write in a way that ensures others will be able to easily understand you, it might be helpful to know the following.
Disassociate: an intentional choice to stop associating with someone or something, often an organization or a cause. "He disassociated from the company after the scandal." Dissociate: a psychological defence mechanism involving mental/emotional disconnection from oneself or reality. "After he quit his job, he sat down on the couch and dissociated for thirteen and a half hours."
Addicting: a verb. "Cocaine addicts people to itself. It is addicting those people." It's a very unusual verb, as you can see. If you find yourself about to use this word in your writing (especially in porn, where I see it SO much), you probably shouldn't. If you could say "causing to develop an addiction" or something like that, then phrase it that way instead. If you say "[Sex thing] was so addicting" that's a little like saying it was so "running." You can totally say that, but it does feel odd... Addictive: an adjective! It describes nouns! "[Sex thing] was so addictive." Nice.đ
Affect: usually a verb. "She was affected by the sad movie. Movies often affect people's emotions." In psychology, it can also act as noun, referring to a person's general emotional presentation. "Her affect was muted." Effect: a noun. This is the stuff you experience. "The effects of the movie were long-lasting." Affectation: also a noun. A way of behaving that's different from your normal way of behaving, usually intentional and meant to impress or fool others. "She put on the affectation of a movie critic when she wrote her review online."
Allude: to indirectly reference something. "He alluded to past criminal activity." Elude: to evade. "He eluded the police."
Compliment: a nice thing to say to someone. "I complimented her new shoes." Complement: a way to say that something that goes well with something else. "Her new shoes complemented her dress." You might recognize it from "complementary colours." Can also refer to free stuff, as in the "complementary coffee" you get at events (the coffee complements the event).
Elicit: a verb. To bring out something, like a reaction. "He elicited the jury's sympathy by telling a sad story." Illicit: an adjective. Judged to be illegal or immoral, as in "illicit drugs" or "illicit affair." "The judge found him in contempt of court for illicit use of emotionally manipulative story-telling."
Conscience: a noun. This is the thing that (purportedly) tells you right from wrong. "His conscience told him he needed to apologize." Conscious: an adjective. This refers to someone or something that is aware of something and/or capable of thinking. "He was conscious of an urge to apologize."
Taught: a verb. Past-tense of teach. "They taught a course on knot-tying." Taut: an adjective. Describes tightness or tenseness, often of something which can be relaxed. "The students pulled their ropes taut to tighten their knots."
Lathe: a noun. This is a machine that carves wood or metal. "The lathe operators wore gloves to protect their hands from the dangerous machine." Lave: a verb meaning to wash or bathe. This is what tongues do. "I laved at my wound (which I got from the aforementioned lathe because I am committing to this bit now)." Lather: a noun or a verb describing bubbles, especially when referring to soap. "I rubbed my soapy hands together to form a lather so I could clean my now horribly infected lathe wound."
Consolidation: the noun form of consolidate, which means to combine. "The two kingdoms consolidated their armies." Consolation: the noun form of console, which means to comfort someone. Might recognize it from the term "consolation prize" â a prize you get when you lose or fail at something. "It was a small consolation that the war would be over soon."
Lose: the verb form of the word loss. "Don't lose your brand new horse, Julia!" Loose: an adjective meaning not tight or contained. "Predictably, Julia's new horse was now loose in the streets of the city."
Ensuring: to make certain of something or to guarantee something. "He handed her the knife, ensuring that the handle was presented first." Ensuing: to take place afterwards or as a result of something else. "The ensuing knife fight was a bloody duel to the death."
Whose: this is the possessive form. "Whose car is that?" Who's: this is the contraction form of "who is/was/has" "Who's driving that car?" Whom: this is the object form of the pronoun "who." It functions like the pronouns him, her, them, me, and us. If your sentence could be restructured to use any of those, then "whom" is correct. Compare "Whom should I blame for the crash?" ("I should blame him.") and "I wondered who had crashed the car." ("He had crashed the car.")
Those are the common mistakes I've noticed. Feel free to suggest more if you've noticed other commonly mixed up words!
Another one I see confused sometimes is discreet and discrete.
Discreet: can mean either subtle and unobtrusive in speech or action, or cautious and restrained in approaching a problem
Discreet is used in situations in which an effort is made to avoid calling attention to someone or something. When youâre being discreet, youâre showing discretion.
Discrete: apart or detached from others; separate; distinct. Typically used in technical, non-personal contexts. It has more specific meanings in the context of math and statistics.
"He mistakenly thought the two parts were discrete, but I told him that they are in fact connectedâin a discreet way, of course."

SERVICE DOG PSA
So today I tripped. Fell flat on my face, it was awful but ultimately harmless. My service dog, however, is trained to go get an adult if I have a seizure, and he assumed this was a seizure (were training him to do more to care for me, but we didnât learn I had epilepsy until a year after we got him)
I went after him after I had dusten off my jeans and my ego, and I found him trying to get the attention of a very annoyed woman. She was swatting him away and telling him to go away. So I feel like I need to make this heads up
If a service dog without a person approaches you, it means the person is down and in need of help
Donât get scared, donât get annoyed, follow the dog! If it had been an emergency situation, I could have vomited and choked, I could have hit my head, I could have had so many things happen to me. Weâre going to update his training so if the first person doesnât cooperate, he moves on, but seriously guys. If whatâs-his-face could understand that lassie wanted him to go to the well, you can figure out that a dog in a vest proclaiming it a service dog wants you to follow him
