like, I *get* the power of "There's A Word For That," I genuinely do, but it feels like there's a lot of overreliance on A Label as a sign of validity instead of internalizing that you are allowed to feel how you feel and act on that (or not) as a fundamental principle, regardless of whether you have a framework that adheres exactly to your own experiences. and also you have to remember that human experience is vast and there will be people with both shockingly similar and wildly different feelings and experiences to yours who use the same identity label, and this is a feature not a bug.

I can tell I'm getting older and tireder bc increasingly I see unfamiliar pride flags and I'm just like. I really don't feel like we need to be able to deduce every microcosm of someone's identity from decoding their incredibly specific color palette. maybe at a certain point we could try just using our words.
