I can't water my roses during a manmade heatwave because there's a water shortage, but you still drain it away by using AI to generate emails for you that you'd have been embarrassed just two years ago to admit that you couldn't write for yourself.
I haven't been on holiday in years but you pump carbon into the air just to drive a child the size of a melon to a school a short way up the road in a giant white range rover, and of course you've been to Dubai twice in the last six months because everyone deserves a break and you can't really see the slaves, but you did complain about the foreign food.
I can't own my home but you have a spare down in Cornwall that you never visit, in a town where no Cornish people can any longer afford to live.
The planet boils because change is inevitable and we all have to accept it, but I bought myself a little joy for a while by growing plants in small pots on the driveway of my rented home. Now we're being told that we all have to make sacrifices, and the leaves are starting to droop and crisp, and the petals have fallen, and you're living like you own the world, but I can't water my fucking roses.

what the hell is going on
i believe in you Binface. you can do it. this could be your moment.
Please god it would be so funny
there is no downside to voting for Count Binface. its not taking away from other candidates bcos they aren't any and the more votes he gets the stupider Farage looks.
for people out of the loop:
Nigel Farage is the leader of Reform UK, a far right party who are currently in the process of a serious bid to become the UK government. they are just straight up evil.
Count Binface is an intergalactic space warrior with a bin on his head. he likes to run as a novelty candidate in general and mayoral elections. a big thing he likes to do is run as a candidate against the incumbent prime minister:
(Also pictured: Boris Johnson, Elmo)
Anyway, in brief:
Nigel Farage is currently in the midst of a big scandal about his finances
He has decided to deal with this by 1) making a show of nobly resigning from parliament and then 2) immediately running in the resulting by-election
He has stated that he is letting 'the people' judge his actions and implied that if he wins that will prove that he has been exonerated in the court of public opinion
His goal was presumably to get a big resounding win over the other parties, proving that The People still love him.
the other parties have thus far decided that this is a 'vanity election' and, well, there is one very easy way to ensure that he will not beat any of them, and that is simply not to play.
and as a result the only person who has so far confirmed they are running against him is Count Binface. no matter the outcome this makes Nigel Farage look like, u know, a fucking clown.
So what happens if Count Binface actually wins? Does he join Parliament? Does he have to take the bin off his face?
I've seen some people saying he would have to give up his title but it would seem that is no longer the case as of 1999; so, no, he can keep his ceremonial bin if he wishes.
Important to note also that Count Binface is the alter ego of comedian & political satirist Jon Harvey who seems to be an intelligent individual with reasonable politics. As I said no real downside.
The no hats rule clearly does not apply to him. He is not wearing a hat. It's a bin.
The other part of this is if farage does get re-elected, none of this farce actually stops parliament from looking into his finances. If he is found to have breached the rules then guess what? Yup, it could trigger another by-election.
Oh and each by-election costs around ÂŁ275,000 to the public purse
It appears that all parties with the exception of Restore are not going to entertain Farageâs media circus.
Count Binface - it is your time. People of Clacton, please do the funniest fucking thing thatâs happened in UK politics for a while.
Shitposting at its finest.
Well reform no longer a threat
All parties should boycott the by-election and deny him the media push of a campaign. He'll return to parliament and continue to be investigated by the standards authority.
You see I disagree with you here him returning to parliament would give him validity in both his actions and his views where as if he loses that will be a rejection of him but a rejection of reform because Farage is reform without him no one would care about the party
Plus the people of Clacton deserve someone who will represent them and not spend all his time jetting off to America to lick trumps ass
Iâd love to see the head cut off the snake, but if Labour put their all into it and lose to him, itâll be a rough start for Burnham.
He appears to be resigning because the standards commission are closing in on him and after Reformâs council election wins and gaining seats up here, they have started flagging in the polls again. My concern is he gets a pedestal throughout the by-election and gets to keep up general campaign momentum, and then it all gets swept under the rug.
I do see your point but my concern is that if parties boycott it then he could use that as âproofâ and be like âsee even my opposition think I did nothing wrong and wouldnât stand against meâ and we know there are people in the British public who would eat that shit up
Lancashire we can get ride of Yorkshire and the south east pump up that climate change

it's no doubt been said many times, but global warming is a class issue. not only because how the economy runs and how much environmental harm it produces is almost exclusively controlled by the capitalist class in most countries, but because that class, and its lackeys, move between air conditioned homes, air conditioned cars, air conditioned offices, and air conditioned recreational spaces, while many people in lower classes globally suffer inescapable heat due to the way they're forced to live. the suffering and deaths caused by hot summer days is a class issue
Being prime minister of the uk has a higher regret rate than being trans
So the solution is to ban prime ministers
Fucking hell can this heat fuck the fuck off. My room is 27 degrees at 9am.

A case study in self-sabotage
Who broke Britain? Someoneâor somethingâmust have. The past 18 years, enough time for a whole lost generation to be born and brought up, have yielded nothing but stagnation and mass disillusionment. In 2007, before the global financial crisis, Britain was at its postimperial zenith. Median household income had just surpassed that of Germany. A pound was worth more than $2, and London was arguably displacing New York as the center of international banking.
But since then, Britain has been left behind. The countryâs output per person is now only just above that of Mississippi, Americaâs poorest stateâand that slight lead is only achieved thanks to London. Outside the capital, in places where tourists do not visit, living standards fall well below Mississippiâs. Brits visiting the United States find that their currency has depreciated to the point where the pound today buys only about $1.35. British wages have lagged well behind those in the U.S., and also those in Germany, France, the Netherlands, Denmark; once you account for inflation, theyâve barely grown at all. Within the next decade, the typical Pole will have a standard of living equal to the typical Brit, if current trends continue.
One generation ago, Britain was a major global power; today, it is a middling one, gripped by sclerosis. Taxation is at the highest level since World War II, yet public services have deteriorated. The National Health Service, the celebrated pillar of the British cradle-to-grave welfare state, has a backlog of 6 million patientsâalmost a tenth of the populationâwaiting for treatment. The health service now has to spend more money settling maternity-malpractice claims than it does on actually providing maternity care. Many Brits can neither obtain an appointment with a publicly funded dentist nor afford a private one; in a 2023 survey, one in 10 reported doing DIY dental work, in extreme cases extracting their own teeth or gluing broken crowns back together.
Incomes can be shockingly low: Junior doctors recently went on strike for the 15th time in three years over their salaries, which start at just ÂŁ38,800; the median salary for British civil servants is ÂŁ35,680. In April, amid the Iran conflict, the Daily Mail pounced on Prime Minister Keir Starmer for vacationing in Valencia, Spain, at what the tabloid described as a luxury hotel, costing ÂŁ200 a night.
Some in Britain blame rotten luckâthe 2008 financial crash, the coronavirus pandemic, an energy crisis after Russia invaded Ukraine. But other countries endured these challenges too. What differentiated Britain was its self-sabotaging responses to these and other problems. Brexit is the most famous example, but hardly the only one. Bad choices, beginning just after the financial crisis, begot worse ones. As public disillusionment has grown, politicians have been rotated swiftly in and out of power, abruptly terminating whatever policies they had started. Six different prime ministers have governed since the 2010 general election. They do not seem to be getting more talented over time. Less than two years after Starmerâs Labour Party took power, his net approval rating has plunged to minus 42 points. He is widely expected to resign this year, and may have done so by the time you read this.
The countryâs downward slide has been consistent in one respect: As Britain has become more and more aware of its diminishment, it has retreated ever more fully into a defensive crouch. Politics have become zero-sum, descending into fights over who has robbed whom. Suspicion has fallen, above all, on immigrants, whom both major parties have turned against. There is still an enduring strain of British exceptionalism, quieter and more understated than the American version, which suggests that by retreating inward, Britain can make itself great again. Astonishingly, or perhaps predictably, it is growing stronger as the countryâs problems get worse.
Bank of England are letting you vote for what animals you want on their new bank notes: https://www.bankofengland.co.uk/banknotes/help-us-design-our-next-series-of-banknotes
Pine martens are an option!
PINE MARTENS??!?
Oh my god, you can choose up to two from each category:
HOW CAN I NARROW THIS DOWN
I chose the fox as one of mine, it's an obvious choice but it'd be nice to celebrate an animal so commonly denigrated. Not that old 'foul mart' has had much of a fun time of it historically either.
Some interesting options here in general, they've not just gone with the obvious animals.
I ended up not choosing the fox, purely because I actually reckon it's going to romp home - for all the controversy, it's the most common wild mammal people see in urban centres, and it's charismatic
I went pine marten, as I've been involved in helping their reintroduction to Wales, and then I wrestled with myself for an Age before finally going hedgehog.
Birds: puffins were the easiest choice. The UK - and Pembrokeshire Coast National Park in west Wales specifically - has a significant portion of the global breeding population of puffins, thanks to Skomer and Grassholm islands. In a country with the biodiversity depletion we have (bottom 10% of countries globally for biodiversity), the islands of Pembrokeshire are almost obscene in how high their biodiversity is, and it's for breeding specifically. We can be justly proud of those. Plus, puffins are fun clowns.
And then I agonised about the others until I finally went for the Great Spotted Woodpecker, a bird I do periodically see and get excited about every time
The Lumped-Together-Others: the bumblebee, you have to. I adore bumblebees.
And then I went for the marsh fritillary, because it's super endangered and I'm an environmentalist with a specialism in habitat management and ecology, and therefore spend a non-trivial amount of my time explaining how to manage for the little assholes.
But MY GOD it took me a while
