At some point in the 1400s, Saint Antonius of Florence got a haircut.
He sought the services of a local barber-surgeon named Master Peter, who was presumably honored to cut the prelates hair. But a ways into his grooming, the Saint-to-be started to wonder. Master Peter could not read Latin. How could a lay-florentine barber-surgeon learn to cut hair and heal the sick with such skill? Master Peter told Antonius that he had purchased a “book of surgery” from some cistercian monks, and it was from this book that he had learned the arts of healing. The saint asked to see the book, and the barber complied.
The archbishop found a book full of healing arts, but also the incantations, formulas, and signs of the wicked magical arts. So he took the book with him, and burned it in the fire of the cloister of San Marco. According to one witness account, the air in the cloister turned dark and fearsome. The citizens and nobles in attendance clung to the archbishop. He told them not to be afraid. The book contained malicious incantations, and the air would return to normal once it was fully burned in the cleansing fire. Later, a mass was held in celebration of the demons’ purgation. Incidentally, the writings of St. Antonius of Florence would go on to influence the particular misogyny of the Malleus Malleficarum. [2]
It is clear that a great many texts went the way of Master Peter’s book of Barber-mancy. History has lost many a text to inquisitorial fires. But from scant accounts like these, we get a sense for the contents and character of these lost medieval grimoires.

I have been stuck in the Time Vortex (health shitting the bed) so thank you everyone for looking after my towers. Surely nothing has gone wrong in the meantime and all is as I left it.
Did you think I was done making wiz raps? Did you think Gavamont the Green doesn't have more steaming hot jams for you? Think again, mortals!
Lyrics beneath the read more
Gavamont the Green, Wizard of the Whispering Woods, Keeper of the Chalice of Chalizath, Champion of the Seal It Don’t Feel It method, known to the elves as Gav’irendel, known to the dwarves as Gavtastic, and known to the weavers as Gav-viscose
Let me tell you now of a wizardly tale
It’s a hell of a journey where the heroes prevail
But the adventure ain’t easy, so pay close attention
For many would have died without my intervention
It’s the quest, to destroy a necklace most cursed
Other heroes would have failed, or maybe even worse
But I am Gavamont, a mage most skilled
So thanks to my power, no one was killed
First we gathered the heroes to aid in the cause
A dwarf, an elf, a hobbit, and a cat girl with paws
We packed up the necklace, but the cat girl had to touch it
It was early in the quest, so my spells I did budget
She surely would have died if left in that state
So I turned her to a statue for a later date
It’s the quest, to destroy a necklace most cursed
Other heroes would have failed, or maybe even worse
But I am Gavamont, a mage most skilled
So thanks to my power, no one was killed
Later in the quest, we’re surrounded by trolls
The killing type, not the softies who do answer for tolls
And the dwarf he fought quite bravely, but he nearly fell
We had no healer, so there’s no one who could make him well
But a wizard is a master of magics most genius
So I turned him to a statue just like the previous
It’s the quest, to destroy a necklace most cursed
Other heroes would have failed, or maybe even worse
But I am Gavamont, a mage most skilled
So thanks to my power, no one was killed
And so we made camp at the base of a mountain
With lightning strikes that could end the curse for certain
But the elf’s pointy ears had jewelry too conductive
She was zapped by a bolt that was very destructive
Thankfully my wizard instincts kicked into action
And I turned the elf to stone before damage could happen
It’s the quest, to destroy a necklace most cursed
Other heroes would have failed, or maybe even worse
But I am Gavamont, a mage most skilled
So thanks to my power, no one was killed
Only the hobbit and me left for end of journey
He seemed somewhat distrusting, but I imagined this surely
We summited the mountain and awaited the thunder
But I suspect him a thief and the goods he would plunder
So before he could rob me I helped with a gesture
He’s now a statue with necklace waiting for curse’s departure
It’s the quest, to destroy a necklace most cursed
Other heroes would have failed, or maybe even worse
But I am Gavamont, a mage most skilled
So thanks to my power, no one was killed
It’s the quest, to destroy a necklace most cursed
Other heroes would have failed, or maybe even worse
But I am Gavamont, a mage most skilled
So thanks to my power, no one was killed
Yeah! Shadow Wizard Money Gang! 2026! I am still Gavamont!
Yeah man, this wizard sleepover is cozy. I just saw a guy gently clap his hands together and say "hot beverage conjuration" or something, and suddenly everyone was holding a perfect mug of their favorite warm drink in their hands. Nobody who was already sleeping even woke up, that's how cozy it is. I'm over here casting pillow and level 2 pyjamas. I think I just heard "power word: blanket fort" two groups over. I gotta get in there.

Getting too addicted to using my chain lightning orb. I’m not even using it on goblins anymore i’m like out with friends and i start zapping people with chain lightning in olive garden. Sometimes there isn’t even a big crowd it’s just like one or two enemies. It just feels so good to use. I need to pace myself. Go back to the classics. Just magic missiles and fireballs for a bit. I don’t like who i’m becoming
