AU: Elijah is the only son in the Mikaelson family. The rest of the siblings are girls :)
Soooooo this ask is from December of last year.....
Sorry about that, Flora I love you and thank you so much for the ask, I swear I have been working on it!!
But also, I made pretty moodboards for my AU? There is zero *logical* reason I would have to have an FC for Fem!Kol in order to answer this ask, but uhhhhhh, i do? So bear with me. I'm a loser, and I needed to have an image in my head of these women before I could picture how Elijah would interact with them. Why is my brain weird? Who knows!
Take this moodboard as an apology, I made it special for this AU that may or may not have stories written for it at some point — also, I gave at least five points per new sibling for funsies, and points for Elijah specific information.
Tw's for Incest and Sexual content below the cut.
Meet the siblings:
Erika, the "Eldest"
Erika is the first one to make Elijah relax and shut his brain off. When they're together she will tease him until he can't beg anymore and is only able to make puppy whining noises.
Whenever he dallies with a partner outside of the family, it is 75% up to Erika whether or not he gets to keep that partner.
Erika will go with him to important meetings or events and keep him wound up on edge the entire time, then let him loose on Niko when they get home and sit and watch.
Erika does have a tendency to moralize and be mean about it with her siblings, and this gets on Niko's nerves more than anyone else. Niko gets angry about it, while Elijah and Hela snark and get sassy at her, and Rebekah tries to balance staying in her good graces and Niko's at the same time.
Erika was married off at the time they became vampires and had come by to share a meal with the family, and Esther included her in the ritual last minute.
Erika ate her husband as soon as she understood she needed blood to survive, and she was stronger than him. She made it a point to kill him slowly.
Erika's favorite colors are orange, plum, and blood red.
Niko, the Original Hybrid
Niko is fond of pretty, fancy things, fighting, rough sex, and the colors green, blue, and gray.
The other 25% of Elijah losing his partners is Niko's jealousy. She can tamp it down for a while... sometimes. But the idea of Elijah having sex with anyone else enrages her and she will lose her mind. She will dagger Erika if she thinks Erika let Elijah inside her (she didn’t, 100% guaranteed Elijah never gets to be inside Erika, that's what Niko's for).
Niko daggers Erika the most often, but she rarely stays that way because Elijah will threaten to stop helping Niko navigate social situations, a threat that maintained effectiveness until women in the US were allowed their own bank accounts and properties independently of familial oversight.
Niko is a feminist precisely because of the advantages it affords her for feminism to "win", and not because she actually believes women besides herself deserve to be equal to men.
Niko's favorite platonic sibling is Hela. They both love chaos in their ways, and they can come up with something wicked and sharp when they put their minds together. This does not save Hela from the dagger when Elijah says the chaos is too much.
Niko considers Erika a platonic sibling because they don't directly interact, so in her mind, the only sibling in a relationship with her is Elijah.
Hela, the Wild Witch Whisperer
Hela was the most adept witch in the family before they were turned. What she didn’t have in raw power she made up for in clever spell casting and workarounds. After she lost her magic, she dedicated herself to the study of witchcraft even more, making herself an encyclopedia of witchy knowledge, learning from and teaching witches. Despite the general fear and animosity Witches tend to have with Vampires, Hela is most witches exception.
Hela is the only person allowed to touch Erika back in a sexual context. This makes Elijah intensely jealous, and Hela knows that. When Elijah’s being particularly annoying, Hela will make a point of stealing Erika to eat her out just to piss him off.
Hela has a friendly and protective relationship with Rebekah, as do most of the siblings, but makes little effort to include her or involve her in any of her doings. She loves Rebekah, but Rebekah was their parent's favorite, which put her apart from the rest of them. Hela often envies Rebekah's freedom, as Rebekah is mostly left to her own devices.
Hela often has partners outside of Erika, which Erika encourages. To keep Erika happy and accommodating, Hela will invite her to watch.
Hela's favourite colors are pastel, lavender and pink. Blood shows on it easier.
Elijah, "The Noble Stag"
Elijah seethes about Hela's ability to keep partners but hasn't asked her how she does it, nor does he plan to.
If you asked him to choose his favorite sibling or they all die, the answer would be Niko if he knew they could hear him, Erika otherwise.
He was naturally talented at all the things his father expected of him and had no brothers to compete with that, so in some ways it was easier for him but as the only boy a lot of weight was put on him to maintain Mikael's legacy. He got the brunt of any punishment that happened in the house due to his status.
Elijah did not compete for Tatia's affections with Niko. Instead, she was married to the man who fathered her child, and she and Elijah snuck around together instead.
Elijah thinks he fell in love with Niko and Erika first, and they're not going to tell him any differently.
Elijah gets jealous of Niko's partners as well, but often finds less traceable ways of killing them than Niko's direct murder. It's for her own good.
Rebekah, The Baby
Rebekah spends most of her time trying to balance not getting daggered with attempting to make friends with and get closer to her other siblings.
Her position as Mikael's favourite gave her a lot of advantages when she was alive in terms of her physical safety, but her relationships to the rest of her family, including her mother, tanked because of her attempts to maintain favourite status at the expense of others. She was a child and afraid of him, and she never grew out of that fawning mindset.
Rebekah spends more time daggered and asleep than any other sibling, totalling roughly 400 years out of a thousand, with 84 years being the record for her longest nap.
Rebekah has plenty of snark and attitude for anyone outside her family, and is prickly to approach without knowing her or being introduced by Elijah.
She has a best friend named Bree, who is also a vampire.

The problem with studying the deep ocean is that humans need light to look at things, the depths of the ocean are extremely dark, and what lives there is accustomed to spending most of its time in that darkness. So when we go down there with submersibles and turn on Big Lights to see, we invariably and dramatically alter what's going on, in the same way that it's generally difficult to observe the natural behaviors of terrestrial animals if you whip out a megaphone and shout HEY GUYS WHAT ARE YOU DOING at them first.
I put this in the comments but feel it needs a reblog- Check out some of Dr Edith Widder’s work on light in the deep sea! Among other things, she used the bioluminescence of stoplight fish to deduce wavelengths which most deep sea animals can’t perceive and used that to create light filters to be able to film with minimal disturbance! And that’s how we got 25 minutes of giant squid footage!!!!

Incredibly violent take of mine but I actually don’t think you need to relate to a story in any way to enjoy it. You can enjoy a story even if you can’t point at a character and insert some aspect of your personality or identity into them. In fact I would argue the need for a character like that to be present in every single story you experience is a sign of stunted growth.
I mean, yeah, valid! but but but I also want to add on the fact that lotr AGGRESSIVELY rejects the “grimdark” and “gritty” settings that is so prevalent in fantasy (and also in general) right now, because I physically can not shut up about it
It is hope and love and compassion that saves each character individually, and because of that, the world. Frodo fails in the end, but his acts of compassion from earlier in the story save the day. And even as the world is saved, it is acknowledged that Frodo failed—without judgement, without blame. He fails, and he is still loved.
And like what can happen in the real world, he is still irrevocably changed by his trauma. But there is still hope—he has to leave, but he leaves with the promise of healing, and the promise that his ever-faithful Sam will follow.
Aragorn, Boromir, Frodo, Sam; each and every one of the characters are driven by their love of the people around them and their hope for the future. They cling to that love and hope throughout their trials, and that bears them through.
Of course people are watching it for comfort!!!! Lotr is eternally consistent in its promise, which Sam articulates so clearly in The Two Towers: “Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines, it’ll shine out the clearer.”
Things are dark and awful and terrible, but it will not be that way forever. That is the promise of LOTR. A promise of hope, and the reminder that it is love and compassion—for our friends, for our families, for the strangers we’ve never even met—that will save us in the end.
I just want to add, it’s not just that The Lord of the Rings rejects grimdark and gritty fantasy - The Lord of the Rings is the original. Grimdark is what you get when you reject the bright half of the eucatastrophe.

ChatGPT in particular has been so incredibly helpful in my writing process! It works perfectly in fueling my undying hatred for the slop plagiarism machine. Spite has been my singular motivator as I spend every day loathing the amount of AI covers and slop books flooding the market. AI has done what no motivational video on YouTube has managed to do: it has motivated me to sit my ass down and fucking write because I am a writer and'll be damned before I let some second hand thinker get the last laugh
