I always head canon that the scroll never gave you any powers you didn't already have, it just augmented them. Zane could always do what he did in the never realm, the scroll took away his morality and thus left him open to the side of his powers that could do anything he wanted. The elements are ones of creation, he just used them to actually create but the power of the scroll meant he could create an army of hundreds instead of ten, dragons instead of birds and he had no moral objections to such a thing. All the ninja have the ability to use their powers to create what they need, no one ever did before though and that's why it's thought the scroll gave him that power. In battle, morality limits creativity.

What kind of folklore do Native American peoples have about vultures and opossums, and how would that cross-section to an animal that's a combination of both? And same about the crow-raccoon, now that I'm at it.
