She was on that episode and a very stupid opportunity presented itself
The most infuriating thing about the Tumblr purge is when you write something thatās nsfw, you canāt tag it as nsfw because then Tumblr auto-hides the post.
Soā¦what do you do?Ā Donāt post it?Ā Donāt tag it?Ā Tag it as āno t sa fe 4 worrrrkā or something equally obtuse?
It makes it impossible to post responsibly.Ā :/Ā Ā

one of the least helpful things ive been told as a neurodivergent person is ādonāt half ass thingsā
if you can quarter ass something, do it! if all you can do is clean a corner of your room, or only read one of the two assigned chapters, or write the heading for your resume, or put all the papers for taxes in a pile, do it! if today isnāt a whole ass day, take pride in the portion of ass that you were capable of
donāt let neurotypicals work ethic define how you did today
honestly this info/post is so so so important.
like i have lived in my new appartment for about half a year now and my autistic ass would never have cleaned it even once if i hadnāt allowed myself to halfass my cleaing.
instead of waiting for a day (that would never come) where i would have the energy and executive function to clean all of it, i took it one bit at the time. one day i might vacuum the kitchen. another day i might dust the livingroom.
you donāt have to do it all at once. itās ok to just do a little bit.
This is honestly so important
oh my stars this literally changed the way i work. i get so much more done when i just allow myself to do what i can at the moment, instead of beating myself up for not doingĀ āenoughā. nobody can be going full throttle all the time, especiallyĀ when youāre struggling w/ mental health stuff
Just do what you can
can yall believe that the iconic painted lady episode was a fucking filler episode?? it was so good? itās so incredibly memorable. itās a fan favorite. the amount of fanart of just that ONE episode? the character development? the best katara quotes like, ever? this episode didnāt progress the plot forward and didnāt introduce any major important characters but it added so much to the story and to the characters (mostly katara) and was fun and didnāt feel like a filler. your favorite show could neverĀ
Highlights of the painted lady:
-āoh my brothers a shop keeper, hang on let me go get himā *switches hats* āhey Iām Dockās brother the shopkeeper how can I help youā
-āwoooooooo~ Iām a spirit~~~ā āno no no spirit magic sounds like this: *explosion noises*ā
-this episode was great for expanding on the fire nation and its culture, and establishing that not everyone in the fire nation is evil
-along with that it also showed how poorly fire nation citizens - mostly those in poverty -were treated during the war by the army that was supposed to be protecting them. It just goes to show that Ozai and the army dont actually care about bringing their people prosperity, they just care about power
-katara invented bi culture and womanhood by dressing up as a water spirit in order to save a town full of people she had never met
-literally though katara is so full of compassion and pure kindness for others and she expects no gratitude in return
-aang chasing down the painted lady
-āhey im the avatar and Iām supposed to talk to spirits so please stop runningā *slams into a pole*
-katara putting on a really terrible fake accent to trick him
-āwow youāre really pretty for a spiritā 1) aang doesnt even know its katara and yet he still manages to flirt with her 2) aang just straight up admits that he thinks most spirits are ugly
-āno I think itās great, youāre like a secret heroā
-katara and aang blowing up a factory like it was the easiest thing ever? Gay culture
-āi will never ever turn my back on people who need meā the most iconic line in the entire series.
-sokka being a good brother and supporting his sister
-the fucking drama of these kids. They donāt just scare the fire nation out of this town, they fucking do it in style, they put on a show. The fog? The ominous music and bellowing? Theatrical
-aang launching katara into the air at the exact moment so she doesnt get burnt by a firebender and she doesnāt even flinch. The level of trust and skill in both of themā¦.
-katara just lifts her hand and everyone flees because shes just that terrifying
-the town finds out that the groups consists of water benders and earth benders and they just? They dont tell anyone?
-aang: āha! I knew it! You and the shopkeeper really are the same person! Iāve figured out this mysteryā he has the biggest dumbass energy
-the actual Painted Lady showing up and thanking kataraā¦her impactā¦.
Feel free to add more cause Iām probably missing something
- the moral of the episode isnātĀ ādonāt commit eco-terrorismā itāsĀ ādonāt commit eco-terrorism ⦠without your buddies to back you up!ā
Another personal favourite of mine is the part where Katara feeds Appa those berries (I canāt remember the exact name) andā¦basically yes, the episode was phenomenal and eerie at the same time.
Also the whole environmental message!!! Is there something important this episode didnāt have?!
How Toph was always holding on to Aang or Sokka in the background cause they were on a boardwalk and she couldnāt see
Appa screaming
Aang airbending mud off of him and consequently onto everyone else
This
Youāre a regular office worker born with the ability to āseeā how dangerous a person is with a number scale of 1-10 above their heads. A toddler would be a 1, while a skilled soldier with a firearm may score a 7. Today, you notice the reserved new guy at the office measures a 10.
You decide itās best to find out what you can about this person. Cautiously, you approach his desk. Heās a handsome man, tall, but with a disarming smile. How could such a friendly guy with such cute, dorky glasses be dangerous?
You extend your hand. āI noticed youāre new here. Whatās your name?ā
He shakes your hand warmly. His gaze is piercing, as if heās looking right through you. āThe nameās Clark,ā he says. āSo, how long have you worked for the Daily Planet?ā
This one wins.
Itās been a few weeks, and one of Clarkās friends shows up.Ā Sheās pretty and all, enough muscle that she must work out.Ā First thought would be that she should be maybe a 6.
Clarkās introducing her around.Ā Ā āThis is my good friend, Diana, sheās in from out of town.ā
You blink, and take a step back in fear.Ā Youāve never seen an 11 before.
The day Bruce Wayne shows up for his long promised interview with Lois Lane, you canāt help it, the mug your holding drops from your fingers and sends a shock of hot coffee and ceramic shards across the floor.
Clark stops a few feet away and squints at you worriedly from behind those ridiculous glasses youāre 99% sure he doesnāt actually need, and asks tentatively,Ā āEverything all right?ā
You ignore him in favor of staring at the inky dark numerals hovering over the beaming fool gesticulating some fantastic yacht story for a gaggle of secretaries and minor columnists.
Thatās it. Your gift has officially gone haywire. There is no other explanation. Because there is absolutely no way thatĀ Brucie Wayne is a 10.
At this point, youāve seen it all. Miled manner reporters and billionaires at a 10 and a model-like woman at 11. You were really starting to doubt your power. The day you really stopped believeing in it was when Bruce Wayne came for another visit, and this time with a kid. The kid couldnāt be more than 10 years old, a bit on the short side.
He was an 8.
The day you started believing in it again was when you saw on tv the formation of something called the justice league.
There were those same numbers over superman, batman, wonder woman and robin. Thatās when you put two and two together. You wonder how nobody at the daily planet noticed that Clarke was Superman with glasses. You wonder why you didnāt notice. You wonder why nobody put two and two together that Diana Prince and Wonder Woman looked exactly the same. You look in the mirror as the realization hit you and you see your own number change from a 3 to a 9.
I donāt think Iāve ever actually reblogged this magnificent post and thatās shame.
Holy awesome. What do I do next?

Someone had an adventure
In 2018 one of the things I learned is to be kinder to yourself. It was hard.
The constant, subconscious thinking so badly of myself and how much I put down myself was a bit of a realization. When you think you're only critiquing yourself but to be honest, nothing was really a critique. Everything was just harsh demeaning thoughts about myself. When its been with you for so long, it was hard to get out of the habit you didn't know you have.
I hope that you'll find the time and effort to be a little kinder to yourself. Thinking one kind thing about yourself is a good thing. Even a thought of "I'm good at making coffee," or "I'm good giving my pet a nice little head rub," is a nice thing. Something good and you're being kind to yourself by complimenting yourself. Acknowledging to yourself that you're doing something.
I still have negative thoughts about myself but it lessened.

I wanted to make something cute and sweet to relax (kink blogs donāt interact thx!)
The thing about knitting is itās much harder to fear the existential futility of all your actions while youāre doing it.
Like ok, sure, sometimes itās hard to believe youāve made any positive impact on the world. But itās pretty easy to believe youāve made a sock. Look at it. There it is. Put it on, now your footās warm.
Checkmate, nihilism.
This is a powerful positive message..
Iām literally reading a book right now (Burnout by Emily and Amelia Nagoski) that says this is scientifically sound.
There have been studies done on rats and dogs where they develop learned helplessness in the animals by giving them impossible tasks. Eventually the animals stop trying, even when the task stops being impossible. (I.e. put a rat in a maze with cheese it canāt get to until it develops learned helplessness, then put the cheese somewhere it canĀ get to it and it wonāt even try.) But once they show the animals they CAN do something - i.e. physically moving the rat to the cheese - the learned helplessness goes away.
No one can move you to your cheese for you, but the book says DOING something - which they define asĀ āanything that isnāt nothingā can help. Make a food. Work in the garden. Clean a thing. Do a favor for a friend. Call your elected officials.
Knit a sock.
If you feel overwhelmed by existential despair, do something. It doesnāt have to be big. It just has to be anything that isnāt nothing.
hooray
This might not be relevant to every writer, but for me that time spend thinking about a fic, I call it āstaring at the wallā is an important part of the process. Without pen or keyboard I can shuffle ideas around, get distracted, come up with connections, phrases, spend time with the idea. Sometimes nothing at all comes of it, but for me knowing what I donāt want to do with a story is half of learning what I DO. It does count for something. Most definitely.
Hello...
Hello to those who are still active. Itās probably obvious, but I just want to say, I donāt think Iāll be doing any fanart anytime soon. Or actually draw. Iāve been super stressed out in real life and on of the things that was stressing me out was art. I feel like I donāt enjoy it anymore, Iām also hesitant on doing any kind of art. Even sketching. I think Iām a little afraid of drawing. Or maybe a lot afraid. Which kind of is a downer because art had taken up a huge part of my life. Almost everything I did was for art. Iāve been thinking a little more positively and trying to organizing my life. I just hope I donāt stop doing art.
So, when my maternal grandmother died, we had to find loving, permanent homes for all five of her cats because otherwise she would have risen from the grave to kill the entire family. We took in Chloe because Chloe was my grandmotherās favorite, and she made my mom promise to look after her. Now my mother treats Chloe like her third child, and the cat is basically plastered to her 24/7 when she isnāt hiding from some imagined enemy like the dustbuster or my dadās footsteps.
Anyway, we wound up giving the rest of the cats to this couple that runs a joint called Kitty Korner. They try to find loving homes for all the cats they take in, but will care for the unadoptables (read: assholes) for the rest of their lives. Thatās great, because one of the cats we gave to these poor women was Tobey. I have no idea why my grandmother ever adopted Tobey. He was a huge schmuck. The most handsome orange tomcat you ever saw, and he loved to crawl in your lap. But if you ever tried to touch him, he would switch immediately into Kill Mode and you could say goodbye to your hand. Needless to say, having him in your lap was awkward. It was like holding a bomb.
Kitty Korner sends us detailed letters every year to give us updates on how Tobeyās doing. Basically, they are status reports on how much of a douche Tobey is and continues to be. These women are saints. I guess they really like cats, because these letters are like a full page of single-spaced text. But more or less, they amount to:
2003: Tobey has a real colorful personality! But, uh, we donāt think heās suited for adoption yet
2004: Nope, still not suited for adoption
2005: I think this is pretty much a lost cause
2006: WTF
2007: Tobey is trying to kill us and every other cat in the house
2008: Tobey is still trying to kill us and every other cat in the house
2009: Tobey is a vicious dictator and can only find pleasure in the subjugation of other organisms
BUT!!!! The past few years, Tobey has apparently been making steady improvement. And in our most recent letter, we have been informed that he is no longer doing things like venturing upstairs expressly to beat the living shit out of the other cats at Kitty Korner. He will also let you pet him, and when heās had enough heāll give a warning nip instead of removing your limb. In fact, Tobey, at a ripe old age of 14, is ready for a new home! With an experienced cat owner, comes the necessary caveat, and like⦠no kids. At all. Ever. Or other cats, probably. But at least heās no longer a psychopath.
WE GOT ANOTHER LETTER FROM KITTY KORNER AND WE THOUGHT TOBEY HAD FINALLY KICKED THE BUCKET BUT IN FACT HE HAS FOUND A NEW HOME, AT AGE 16, WITH AN ELDERLY MAN WHO RECENTLY LOST HIS OWN CAT.
I MAY CRY.
2/1/2016: old man Tobey still loving his forever home :ā)
Amazing
The adoption story to end all adoption stories. Hey, does Kitty Korner have a Kickstarter anywhere?
The outpouring of love for this post is amazing! Iām going to cry at the office.
They do not have a Kickstarter, however, as a no-kill foster home run exclusively through volunteer work, they always welcome donations and you also have the ability to sponsor a cat. Youāll get detailed photos and status reports on your kitty, and should he or she get a happy ending like Tobey, youāll be the first to know!
My grandmother was a card-carrying crazy cat lady until the day she died, and she was a big supporter of Kitty Corner. The women who run it are as devoted to rescue animals as she was her entire life. Wherever she is now, sheād be humbled to know just how many people were touched by Tobeyās comeback story.
Iām not crying, you are⦠ššš

Guys my cat is so polite
Fun fact: My cat does this too and I was curious as to why so I asked the vet. Apparently your cat is hearing the stutter in your heart beat caused by the sneeze and is making sure youāre okay.
Bc we have the audacity to wake them up but not actually die
Never talk to me or my 42 trees again
it amuses me to see people being surprised/impressed/amused by this setup, because itās extremely common on the plains. if you donāt plant a windbreak, your heating and cooling bills are huge, and storms do things like throw the lawnmower through the living room window, take the roof off, or cake the entire north side of the house with six inches of solid ice.
evergreens remain bendy even in the coldest weather, so ā wait, no, not the coldest. i remember when i was a kid it got down to like -45 and the norway pines around my house were cracking like gunshots as the sap froze.
maples, incidentally, make that noise around -20f, and i hear it at least once every winter here in southern minnesota. but i only ever heard norway pines make it that one time.
so anyway thatās why we plant pine trees around our houses. because otherwise the wind would freaking kill us.
This is informative and perfectly sensible under the circumstances but I also cannot resist the temptation to compare it to planting stuff all around the boundary of your lot in The Sims
