My grandma told me she was happy I got the option to be single and unmarried once.
My Nanna waited until her husband left for work each morning, and then she left after him and went to the secret job that he didnt know she had (and would have prevented her from going to had he found out), and then she worked a full day, and then made it home early enough to have dinner on the table in time for him to arrive. She did all this whilst singlehandedly raising all their kids and keeping the house and garden pristine. She had to get a secret job because he gave her the equivalent of fifty bucks per week and expected her to be able to feed and clothe six children and a grown man on that budget, and he spent the rest of his own income on beer at the pub.
