New Rhythm Heaven means new final remix which means new mashup yay! This one is called “First Impression Remix” because I just wanted to go at it and make a mashup of the final remix and then build the eventual album off of the choices I made there. Whether or not I use all of these in the same way is undecided so far. This post is going to go into all the choices I made. If I skip a specific minigame it’s because I didn’t think I had much to say about it

-First a general note. For this mashup (and by extension the upcoming album) my goal is to use songs I haven’t used in Rhythm Heaven mashups before. There are a few exceptions I’ll bring up when I get to them

-I opened with the Sayonara Wild Hearts monologue because it namedrops “Groove”, but also because I’ve been in a bit of a rough patch recently. Like “Through Absolutely Everything”, I wanted the Theme of this mashup to be how I will persist. Which I will.

-Brolly Good Show (in this case its sequel) features vocals from a french performer. As such, I included two Daft Punk songs, since they are French. The ABBA song was included because it fit. Also I’ve ALWAYS wanted to use Superheroes and this was a good place to do so.

-Flutter Speed was interesting and only had a connection after I put them in. Kids and bugs (fireflies) are things that are in this minigame

-Crab Snacks was frustrating because I wanted to find a song that had lyrics that said something, then paused, then continued, just like the melody of CS. I actually had two other songs planned for it (“Wild Hearts Never Die” from Sayonara Wild Hearts and another one I can’t remember right now) but I couldn’t get a clean rip of it.

-Germ Aerobics was also frustrating because it feels like it gives me Nothing. So I just kinda continued Superman from the last song, and added harmonies to add some spice

-Closer x2 Combo for Hi-Five Whatever Its Called

-Alien Alphabet was given two songs with gibberish lyrics because that’s probably what it’s like trying to communicate with an alien

-I had already started the Disc Dog mashup, so it was the easiest

-Soda Hop gives us our first SODA!!!!!!!

-Hitchin a Ride works so perfectly becuase the guitar in Wiper is almost an exact match to the one in Hitchin a Ride. Also! This starts a bit of a short themed section talking about alcohol. Anyone who remembers Windows 7 Startup (Slowed Down) knows my thoughts there. (Side note: I’m still struggling a little bit but I’m doing so much better)

-Feedin The Beast with double Gorillaz! Also another drinking mention

-Drop N Pop comes with a free reference to One Of Those Mondays, since there’s an instrumental section that sounds very similar to the opening of plash plop gurgle

-Rehab also has a bit of that drinking theme in it, although now it’s a bit loose to be considered a theme. The three “no”s after come from Hotel Mario, Sonic Adventure, and No Sleep Till Brooklyn

-Sweeper Star made Soda Pop seem like the obvious choice because, quite frankly, I’m not that into K Pop. I heard from a comment the song had AI help to write it so I don’t think I’ll include it in the full version. Also second SODA!!!!! Because Soda Pop. It’s funny. Just as funny the second time!!

-Fruit Salad is, like, the most obvious joke

-Soda is one of the rhythms for A For Effort so of course I had to give another SODA!!!!! Rule of threes!

-Slice N Dice Kitchen begins what I can only describe as the Trans Section. I’ve been fixated on the girl from this minigame for a while because she’s Just Like Me For Real. I’ve recently found my passion for cooking, and I have a cute ponytail and brown hair (for now). So I decided to play “Isn’t She Lovely?” which if you somehow don’t know at this point is the song that played in The Amazing Digital Circus about a trans woman. I also included All Star, because it’s me.

-For Lightning Bolting, I used One, which is a song about someone feeling trapped in a living hell that is their body. Because this is the trans section. While my gender dysphoria has never been too awful, it’s still something I know that my fellow trans women can relate to. I also replaced “I cannot live, I cannot die” with “I cannot live” twice, to fit the theme a bit better.

-For Sneezy Moon, the important 🏳️‍⚧️ lyric is the desperate “I need to feel like I exist”. Because god damn do I feel that sometimes.

-Quick Hands has Breaking the Habit, with some changed lyrics. Saying “I don’t know how I got this way, I know it’s alright”. Breaking the Habit could relate back to the alcohol stuff, too.

-Yum-Bot Simulator just sounds like Launch Party. I didn’t have anything more clever than that. So I just leaned into it and used This Is Gospel. This is a song I used before in Rhythm Heaven. It almost feels like Deja Vu…..hey wait a se-

-Can Do has a lot going on. Deja Vu was picked specifically in response to me using This Is Gospel again. Also hey speaking of reusing things, are these soda cans? SODA NUMBER FO- SMASH!!!!!!! We’re done with that bit. So much that I put in a clip saying to “Stop it”. Emphasis on “Stop” because

-Stop N Go N Stop was such an interesting minigame to me because I’ve had a WIP for years now for a mashup called “Stop N Go”. I released that WIP on my blog, and keen-eared listeners may have noticed that I used songs that were used in that mashup for this section. Also, the backing track in that mashup “trick style” had the exact same BPM AND key as this section of Remix 20, which is a BONKERS coincidence.

-Samurai with Jojo Openings. That’s just how we do it here at Jenny Chongo. I did reuse Stand Proud, but it fit WAY too well.

-Video Game theming for the video game. Obviously.

-The minigame with the idol I felt had to be the one that referenced Spoken For, the vocaloid song where its music video was an homage to Rhythm Heaven. It felt like it was too perfect. “Otonoke” plays in the background because the sound effect counting you in is “Dan Dan”

-With the fakeout switching to major key, it only made sense to put the Jenny songs right at the end :)

And that’s First Impression Remix. I wanted to share all my thoughts about it because I put a lot of me in these mashups. Hope you all keep enjoying it! I’m not confirming that I’m making an album for this yet, if only because I have a big move coming up and that’s gonna keep me VERY occupied and I dont wanna make any promises, but I’d say chances are pretty positive.
