It's so funny being a whump fan. Like hiii my name's Sebastian I love writing and reading!!!! I hope we can be friends :3 anyway my favorite tropes are kidnapping, disembowelment, torture, restraints, and drugging!!!
big fan of the listless dissociated look that whumpees have after something that causes incredible pain (whether emotional or physical just a Lot of it) - when their eyes are focused on nothing and their mouth is a little open and maybe they're covered in blood and they're limp and just move with whoever is pulling them up rather than actually using any of their own strength. when blinking is the only acknowledgement they can give that they can even hear or understand what's going on. when they aren't even crying because that would take too much energy. they're just... tired. empty. dazed. yeah. big fan
"i really need to sit down," whumpee says. the heat of the day and the hard work they're doing is getting to them.
"that's the fourth time you've said that today. haven't you had enough breaks?"
"we're all hot and tired, whumpee."
whumpee decides they're right. maybe they're overreacting. they're about to say as much and get back to work, but suddenly, the nausea and faint feeling washes over them again, and they waver.
"whumpee?"
they stagger to the side, catching themself on the nearest support, and choke up the water they've been trying to drink. they haven't had anything to eat--haven't been hungry. someone rushes to ease them to the ground, where they may or may not be a little hazy in consciousness for a moment.
"easy, whumpee. you're alright."
"maybe a break is warranted."

I feel like I see lots of injured Whumpees but never any Whumpees who have objects of caused injury still stuck in them.
Picture it:
Whumpee crumpled up in a ball on their cell floor, clutching the hilt of a knife buried in their gut, blood seeping from between their teeth.
Whumpee who fell several stories during a buildings collapse and canβt move a muscle to escape the rubble because thereβs a rod sticking out of their abdomen, pinning them to the ground.
Whumpee tied up in their seat, unconscious. Rescuer finds them with nails pinning their hands to the arms of the chair.
Whumpee who has been shot and Medic who is frantically looking for the bullet but canβt find it. Caretaker holds Whumpeeβs head in their lap, trying to keep them from falling asleep as they slowly bleed out. ORβ¦
Whumpee thatβs been shot but has no way to fish the bullet out, whether it be too deep in or they just donβt have the knowledge to do so. They sew up the hole in their abdomen, limb, etc., with nothing more than a prayer that it didnβt hit anything vital.
Whumpee with arrow(s) through their shoulder blades, trudging along through a winter forest, leaving a bloody trail in their wake. They donβt know where theyβre going, but they canβt let themselves sit down to rest for fear they wouldnβt get back up. But theyβre so, so coldβ¦
'dont make me do this' + 'this is for your own good' + 'i dont want to fight you' + 'im trying to make you see reason' + 'you leave me no choice' + 'we both know im stronger than you'
absolutely feral over the trope of a mentor character training whumpee/hero, being by their side the whole journey through, teaching them everything they know and seeing them become everything they are, pulling them up by their hands and carrying them in their arms and bandaging their wounds, their teacher and nonblood parent - only for whumpee to face them as an obstacle after they discover/realize/decide that they must sacrifice themselves, that they must do something dangerous or give something up in order for the plan/mission to work, and mentor wont have any of it. wont let them give themselves up for anything, they'd find another way, they had to. Whumpee draws their weapon and reluctantly raises it, standing true to their decision and not letting anyone or anything stop them. 'Please dont make me do this. I dont want to fight you.' Mentor steels themselves that if it would take a fight to make them see reason, so be it. They taught them everything whumpee knows, after all, they both know mentor is stronger. 'You leave me no choice. This is for your own good.'
Characters who hate who they once were. Characters who are disgusted by who they once were. Characters who absolutely despise who they once were.
Characters who miss who they once were. Characters who long for who they once were. Characters who would give anything to be who they once were again.
'This is for your own good.'
Being drugged/poisoned/force fed something against their will
Being locked away in a secluded/isolated location to keep them away from someone/something
Being chained/restrained/secured to someone/something
Being forced to say/do something against their true thoughts/emotions/values
Being forced to watch as someone takes/does something vital to the mission
Being silenced so they don't jeopardize the mission with their sharp tongue
Being forced to comply with enemies so that their teammate/friend doesn't get hurt

Absolutely adore when bubbly, upbeat Character A gets sick/injured and becomes loopy and dazed, giggling and rambling slurred compliments and vulnerable truths to usually stoic and graceful Character B, who's fretting over them and trying to bring down their fever/tend to their wounds and blushing furiously, trying to brush them off as being delirious and not thinking straight but unable to ignore their pounding heart and wandering mind, hidden feelings for them grow stronger
Magical healing and potions with a touch of realism can maintain world building while making space for whump and more satisfying/meaningful injury recovery/resource use. So, some ideas for that:
Healing potions that speed up the natural healing process, but require the same energy expenditure from the person being healed (if not more energy) relative to healing naturally. This can look like pulling someone back from the brink of death, but at the cost of weeks of mental and physical exhaustion or extensive sleeping. Muscle weakness or pain that lingers even after the physical damage is repaired.
Healing with a high metabolic cost, making the person incredibly hungry and need way more food than normal. If they can't eat enough to compensate, they lose weight proportionally.
Healing that can mend tissues (broken skin or bones knit back together) but not restore blood volume or reverse other types of trauma (like head injuries).
Energy or stamina potions that have a similar metabolic cost, acting more like an adrenaline rush that blinds the body to pain temporarily but can easily result in overexertion. Maybe it borrows the energy from the future too, so that when the character crashes, it's twice or three times as hard as they would have crashed had they not taken the potion.
Magical healing that takes a toll on the caster, beyond just expending their magic. Referred pain taken on by the healer, bone deep aches that nothing but time can relieve, physical stress and strain, feeling too hot or too cold (symptoms similar to heat stress or other conditions resulting from extreme physical exhaustion), fever, needing to sleep or eat more, weight loss, tiring faster in other activities, elevated heart rate, headache, dizziness, etc.
Potions that have a level of toxicity to them. You get the desired effect, sure, but the plants needed to make it are very slightly toxic. There are strict dosing guidelines to avoid negative effects, but side effects can range from nausea and headache at low doses to full on poisoning (vomiting, passing out, tachycardia, and even death). Different potions have different toxicity levels and tolerated doses.
How long a potion's effects last, how intense it is, how effective, etc can all be influenced by a person's body size and metabolic rate (among other factors), just like modern medicine.
Potions can be diluted by adding water, or strengthened by steaming off some of the water already in it, to various effects. They can also spoil or be ruined by some conditions (heating or cooling past a specific temperature, expiry date, etc).
Different application methods--drinking a potion vs injecting into muscle or into the blood stream vs applying it on a cloth or mixing with gelatin/other ingredients to form a salve or lotion.
Potions that are healing on their own but become toxic if taken together.
Potions that function like modern pain medication--relieving the pain, but at the cost of numbness, fatigue/drowsiness, or altered consciousness.
Magic restoration potions that allow more magic use, but slow natural magic regeneration for a few hours, and may have side effects like a low grade stimulant (feeling jittery or wired, dizziness, nausea, etc). May feel unsatisfying and the magic restored may feel different (less potent? More artificial?) compared to the person's naturally present magic. Maybe it's enough to delay or lessen symptoms of magic depletion, but still leaves them feeling ill or "off" somehow.
i love thinking about the character! *actively pacing around the room, breathing heavily, on the verge of tears*

No thoughts. Just Whumpee drifting in and out of consciousness, muttering nonsensical slurred protests, and weakly trying to pull st their restraints before their eyes roll back and they slip away into unconsciousness again.
