Eddie told Buck years ago. There is nobody in this world he trusts with his son more then Buck.

And here Buck is. Rock bottom. Withdrawal in full swing. And Eddie still has that unshakable trust in Buck to be near his son. Everyone is there sure. But they are all inside busy. They aren’t outside with them. They aren’t watching them from a door or window. It’s just Buck and Chris. Even at his worst Eddie has full trust in Buck with Chris. Even when Buck doesn’t have trust in himself.

The moment we see Buck finally start to reach for help. Does it fully succeed? No. As we see he eventually sees the med vials and his withdrawal takes over. But he very much starts this scene trying to ask for help. And it’s Eddie. Because of course it’s Eddie Buck runs to when he needs help because he knows Eddie will always help him. Eddie is his safe space. His rock. His partner.

And then we have this Hen and Eddie scene. I can’t tell you how insane this makes me feel. Hen and Eddie. Discussing Buck and his addiction. Not Hen and Chim talking as friends or from one former captain to another current captain how did I miss this with my firefighter. Not Hen and Maddie how did I miss this he’s my brother.

No no No. it’s Hen and Eddie. Hen who we know has an ex partner who dealt with this. Hen has lived having a partner go down this road. She knows the signs. She knows how it’s miserable. How that guilt works. How you blame yourself. She knows the cycle. And now she’s having this conversation with Eddie because Buck is his partner. Like this is absolutely insane.
