comics with nightwing are sooo good when his life sucks and he’s being more bisexual than usual

on a real note it’s so endearing to me the way talia left her father for good (or so she thought) and immediately did everything an 18 yr old who just went off to college would do. she got her nose pierced and started smoking and spent her days eating chips and reading books in her messy apartment. the second she got a bit of freedom all she wanted was to be normal.

the grief is an erogenous zone

reading golden age wonder woman which is, bluntly, virulently racist, both in hindsight and of the times. a lot of that is due to its nature as a US war-time comic book that directly asks the viewer to buy war bonds and such and is just riddled with some monstrous depictions of japanese people. but then i also started hitching on the persistent imagery of bondage and slavery that was in every issue and i couldn’t figure out why i was so frustrated until i realized that i had heard endless scholarship and analysis on how diana’s character has ties to kink and queerness and whatever and absolutely none about race. so i tried to look for commentary and scholarship and anything that talked about the obsession with chains, binding, submission and i found a thousand claims about how wonder woman is simply borrowing suffragette imagery and yet none of them followed up to mention that the suffragettes stole that imagery from abolitionists, that the white women of america were appropriating the horror of chattel slavery to make themselves seem more victimized, which wonder woman thoughtlessly reproduced while telling the reader that the [racial slurs] don’t deserve to be considered human

i wonder if it’s time for a cultural reappraisal of rob liefeld’s art. maybe we were all just too quick to judge a guy for daring to have a unique stylized take that focused on exaggeration and action. *actually looks at some of his art again* jesus CHRIST never mind
